Anyone else playing this? It's a great game. The atmosphere is amazing, especially above ground.
It's really ammo-intensive though. I'm on the fourth mission and I've barely got any AK-47 or shotgun ammo left so I'm relying on my scoped and (supposedly) silenced revolver. It takes a fair while to regenerate health compared to Call of Duty and sometimes enemies take too many bullets to kill, which is just a pain in the arse.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
When you have it set to english, it's occasionally laced with russian dialogue (most notably singing).
The writing on the whole isn't that bad. It feels a bit ripped-off of STALKER, but there are lots of post-nuclear games out there.

Im sorry but a stalker rip off from someone who worked on the original stalker and running off a engine based from the one used in stalker is just shameful.
The plot is based on a book, one which I can't find, smells too much of fallout 3 in the story and plays like stalker = ripped-off
Play Stalker: Call of Pripyat, a real game by the real people
I'm keeping my eye out for the novel for certain, I might download this game first, but as always, if I like it, I will buy it. I really enjoy the look and feel of this one.

This is quite frankly the stupidest list of complaints about a game I've ever read, right up there with "Why don't you get to play as the Locust in Gears of War?" or "Rogues don't let me fight back waaaah".
Most games out there use the same engine that Metro 2033 is using. Did Rainbow Six: Vegas 1&2 rip off STALKER? Of course not.
And of COURSE it plays like STALKER. It plays like...y'know, any generic FPS.
By the by does Fallout have some kind of monopoly on post-nuclear apocalypse worlds that I wasn't privy to? Because there's dozens of movies that came out in the 80s & 90s that beg to differ.
Anyways:
Cheese, you're on "War: Frontline"? Such a pain in the ass mission. But it gets more amusing from there. Just wait till you see the Nazi's tank!
Bought this game today, and boy how surprised i was, I did not know what to expect but the game feels and looks and feels very well done. I love not having to suffer any more American heroes out to save the world, And the setting is perfect in MY opinion. I think this game will eat up all my time for some time to come.

The book was released in 2002, ages before Fallout 3. It hasn't been translated to English until recently to coincide with the game release.
Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is not a post-nuclear game. It merely takes place over at Chernobyl where something nuclear happened. If I want to play a really buggy mess, yeah sure, I'll dig up my disc of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again.

I ask you, have you played any of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s? or Metro 2033?
After playing all of the stalkers and then playing metro 2033, it is clear that it stole so much from stalker without even caring to hide it. Its like someone talking chapters out of Happy Potter and putting it in thier book and calling it their own. Stealing!

Call of Pripyat isn't all that buggy, and neither are the others (thanks to the patching team).
The real thing I have against Metro is not the cliche of its gameplay or story but the fact that nothing in it is original, except maybe SOME sprites, they have just sat down and gone and copy and pasted parts from great games and said, here that will sell, bugger the rest.

I've seen NOTHING that is just reused from Stalker, unless I've missed something with the human models or the weapons. But again, that could be because the Metro and Stalker teams go for making 'real' weapons and then giving them an alternative name to avoid the licensing fees. As for creatures, the Librarians, Nosalis, and most of the other critters are pretty original--and this coming from someone who's played all the Stalker games and Metro, to answer your earlier question.
Alright, finished the game recently. My final thoughts:
1. The stealth element is OK, but sometimes enemies seemed a bit too alert, even on the lowest difficulty setting. This was really noticable on Black Station, a pure stealth mission (unless you like getting filled with lead).
2. Shotguns are underpowered. I mean, I had to pump six shots from the auto-shotgun into someone to drop them on normal difficulty and both shotties take a long time to reload.
3. Lurkers are the most gakky and annoying enemies ever. Feth Lurkers (they're the things that pop out of holes).
4. It is, overall, quite a challenging game. Helmets and armour can and will stop your bullets for once. No easy headshots here, no siree!
5. The level design is linear, but it's set in a metro station so that's OK. It's the atmosphere that really makes it spectacular though. One minute you're fleeing from dozens of angry Nazis, then you're in a totally silent and pitch-black tunnel. It's really creepy in some sections.
I had a couple of minor gripes regarding other aspects of the game (drawing weapons seems a bit too smooth, for instance), but overall I thoughroughly enjoyed it. I'll try and buy a preowned copy when I get the chance.
I managed to get the alternate good ending too! I was surprised to see that.
Oh, and the ending music is awesome.

Yes cause.. you know Fallout 3 was the first fallout... oh wait.. It was the worst fallout. Even Tactics was better imo.
Anyhow, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.(what a pain in the ass to type) always smacked me as one of those half finished cult games. I got the metal box limited edition thing lying around... somewhere.. But yea, I was not impressed.
This game, however, seems to have equal amounts of bugs Played it at friends once, atmosphere and such were pretty nice, but the AI was just horrific.
