So my friends and I are going to start a necromunda campaign and I have a question for everyone, how can you buy plasma pistols and chainswords during the campaign if you are, for instance van seer or escher? They are under the pistols section and are listed as common so one the one hand it seems like you should be able to purchase them normally and equip them on gangers, juves etc. On the other hand they are also "leaders only". Finally you can change equipment around so that the leader can give his weapons to another guy (assuming they can take them of course, for instance a bolt pistol on a leader can be given to a ganger in a van seer gang). So how do you all play this? I thought of 4 scenarios

a)you buy them like normal after the first round like any other common item.

b)you buy them like an item from a non-house list, so it takes one rare item slot but the cost is normal.

c)you can only buy for the leader, but he can give to another ganger so only 1 chainsword + plasma pistol per turn, but they can be equiped on juves and gangers as normal

d)only your leader can be equiped with these guns as they truly are leader only (although that makes it weird for lists that have bolt pistols as leader only because then you cant equip a bolt pistol for a ganger)

I personally think a) might be right, but think that b) or c) would be more fair (an escher list with multiple chainsword/plasma pistol gangers would be horrible to face!)

I believe that leader only weapons can be given to the rest of your gang as you please after recruitment. The leader only thing is just for when you first recruit your gang.

In fact, here's a quote from the rules:

page 78 wrote:Leader Only Weapons
When a gang is first created, certain weapons are
restricted to their leader, as noted in the weapon lists
opposite. After a campaign has begun however, these
weapons may be purchased for any gang member,
using the normal trading post rules.

Dreadnote is correct. The leader only weapons are really there only for the first game in a campaign and for one-off games.
