All the pics are very dark, maybe set them against a white background? Its hard to make out any detail.

The painting seems fine, though. The gold on the SG looks good. Only problem is the seeming lack of coverage on the red on the DC model.

its your computer/monitor settings man. I do photography professionally, lighting is my life. I spent 30 mins setting the lighting up for those. I take all of my images in RAW format and I optimize them for a well set monitor/screen, as I do with all of my photos. If detail is lost in black, I meant for it to be that way. I am not good enough at painting to take the pics with my speedlight and light them up like a fething christmas tree like they do over at GW....

hey thanks. and yeah, he is a WIP, but thanks very much for pointing that out.

also, I will be doing some SFX when I find it to be neat/necessary...

stay tuned...

If your an professional photographer I'm a bit confused. Photographing miniatures is nothing like photographing people. You need alot of good lightning to see the model so that we (the crowd) can give you constructive criticism, as it is now I can't really see alot.
I hope you take this the right way, because it isn't my intentions to insult you.

I do not photograph people. I specialize in macro and architecture.

I apologize if you cannot see these correctly. But I assure you its your monitor/display settings. I see them perfectly, along with my little mistakes in painting that I didn't even notice until I looked at the pics on my computer.

It is a blog though, so I will light up the next pictures better.

Those models are bloody amazing!! Even though they're a bit on the dark side, they're still very impressive. Well done!

Awesome Macro skills man! Some really tasty artsy photos! I reckon a bit of blood red for the highlights would really make the models pop though.

It's not the monitor settings, it's the pictures: As you said, theyre optimised for computer monitors, but that isnt the problem its the composition: While they may be well composed, as is your profession, this style of photography doesn't really lend itself wel to the critiquing of a paintjob.

Case in point: The pictures of the chaplian: The background is just off black, the armour is slightly brighter in the lightsource, but where the armour is shaded, it belnds in with the background. I cannot tell if you have actually highlighted the model, or if its just the composition of the lighting/photo.

Again, with the deathcompany model, half the torso is in blackness. I can see no detail there.

Im not wanting to be harsh, not insult you in any way, you have skills. Im just saying that taking this type of photo (while they look cool) may not be the best if you want constructive feedback on your painting skills, which I thought this thread was trying to develop?

thanks! So you mean blood red on the blood drops, vials, and such? I put some, but maybe it needs more?

noted. I will take some more of them tonight, when I post some of the IG pictures. I guess since I already took pictures of the chap, I just took these to accentuate the details not picked up from the other photos...here you are!

I too am a professional photographer... good to see that side of the hobby once in a while. I'm a portrait photographer though so my skills don't carry over to miniature and macro photography quite as well as these.
