Not strictly about video games but... I've just installed Ubuntu (linux) onto my Netbook (I really didn't like Win7) so I'm looking for advice on any aspect of using Linux, in particular advice on software for it.

So far I've installed
Chrome
Open Office
VLC
Songbird (not that keen preferred Winamp)
Realplayer (much prefer the Windows version)
Tabletop Commander (future proofing)
Wine (Not actually figured out how to use it yet)

Any advice appreciated.

Hi there, Gwar! here lol

I would recommend looking into Linux Mint. It is based off Ubuntu but a lot more beginner friendly and user friendly. However, Linux Mint 9 is coming soon (within a month) so hold out for the new version before installing it.

As for software, you pretty much have it down (though I prefer Firefox). As for Wine, make sure you get the Development version (1.43 iirc at time of posting) as the latest "Stable" version is really outdated. What wine is is basically a way for running Windows programs on Linux. It's not perfect, but most things work.

If you need any other help, add me on MSN or Skype and I'll be happy to assist!
