Howdy!

Saturday, I and a couple of good friends went up to the Memphis Battle Bunker to game and in general celebrate the re-opening of a Bona-fide Games Workshop store that happens to be a reasonable drive from where I live here in Central MS. I managed to get a couple of games in, both were quite fun, and I also managed to win a figure case in the hourly raffle that the staff were holding. Overall, quite the good trip!

The facility is pretty much identical to how it was when I was there last time several years ago, at the release of 40k 4th edition. They have a ton of table space, all of which are realm of battle tables painted in various different colors for terrain, from green to snow to desert. Having said that, let me seguay for a moment and say that having never played on a realm of battle table till Saturday, they're *very very nice* and were I posessing more disposable income I would purchase one for use. That being said there were about 18 or more full size tables, all with their own terrain, as well as tables for painting and modeling set up near the cash-register/store section of the bunker. They had an impressive ammount of product on sale and again, had I more disposable income I would have made a purchase or two.

The staff there were all super friendly, and you could tell from speaking with them that they were excited to be there and to have the bunker reopened. That was pretty much the consensus I got from everyone present, which I would say was also impressive in regard to turnout. It was pretty much just an open gaming setup, which was awesome because there were at least 50 to 60 people in the store on average for the 7+ hours I was hanging out and gaming. People were having fun and getting a chance to toss dice with people they don't normally have a chance to which is almost always a good thing.

My overall impression was wonderful, and I'm not trying to sound like a total fanboy here but I have to say I'm genuinely excited to finally have the prospect of a place I can go and be able to participate in larger events with a more varied group of 40k players. Much love to my FLGS and I will continue to frequent his buisness as often as my work schedule allows me because a 15 minute drive > a 3 hour drive, but the tournament and event scene here is rather slow at the moment and I am very happy to have the prospect of participating in a large tournament with a more varied group of players. With all that said, if you or someone you know live anywhere within a reasonable drive of Memphis, TN and play 40k (or fantasy, or LOTR), you should make the drive to an event there.

At the moment the GW memphis store has a facebook group that the current Store Manager has created and uses to update on events and schedules, if you have a facebook account look it up under MemphisBattleBunker and join up!

For anyone reading this who happens to have been there, I was the IG player pushing mostly primered Vostroyans (They're super detailed... takes me a long time to paint them >_< and who was wearing the red Games Day Altanta '04 shirt. Chime in if you were there over the weekend and add your thoughts if you would!

Take it easy for now guys!

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

I've always wondered, does the bunker sell anything a standard GW store doesn't? Is the bunker essentially a GW store with extra room for gaming?

Doubt it. All of the bunkers stopped selling FW due to rapid fluctuations on the currency exchange rates.

Anyone have pictures of the revived bunker?

The Chicago Bunker will order forgeworld for you since I ordered some stuff before Adepticon this year and got it pretty quickly.

I am glad to hear that they have opened back up. Hopefully they will host some local Games Days and/or tournaments with the move of their headquarters from Baltimore to Memphis.

The store used to carry forgeworld items before they closed down and reopened.

It's not like the Glenn Burnie HQ was even in Baltimore proper...

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.
