I wanted to post a batrep for my 2000 points BA army I am currently running. I love the army for what it is. One shot from a Vindicator could toast the army but Blood Angels have huge balls so I have to say what the heck! :p

Here is my current list I am working with:

Dante
Sanguinor

15x Death Company & Lemartes/jump packs + 5x power fist, infernus pistol
5x assault Marine/jump packs, meltagun, thunderhammer & stormshield

Chaplain/jump pack, infernus pistol
2x Sanguinary Priest/jump packs, infernus pistols & power weapons

Stormraven/extra armor, TL multi-melta, TL lascannon

I have had mixed results with Sanguinor but I really love to use him as he is lots & lots of fun. Enough boltguns will kill him dead but what the heck, he is very Killy & a blast to play so I will stick with him.

Here is my opponent's army:

Wolf Lord/thunderwolf mount, runic armor, wolf tooth necklace, thunderhammer & stormshield
Wolf Priest

5x Wolfguard terminator/2x thunderhammer, cyclone missile launcher, 2x wolf claws, 2x stormshield
Landraider/multi-melta

10x Grey Hunter/Wulfen, 2x plasmagun, powerfist - rhino
10x Grey Hunter/Wulfen, meltagun, plasmagun, powerfist - rhino

Long Fangs/2x plasma cannon, 3x missile launcher
Long Fangs/3x missile launcher, 2x lascannon

3x Thunderwolves/stormshields, wolf claw, meltabombs

Here is the mission:

Deployment - 18" in from long table edge, 12" from short table edges

Objective - Killpoints

I won the roll & decided to go first. I held everything in reserve with the following groupings:

Dante + Lemartes + Sanguinary Priest + Death Company

Sanguinor + Stormraven

Assault squad + Chaplain + Sanguinary Priest

My opponent deployed his entire army in a castle with the Thunderwolves & his Wolf Priest/termies in the landraider right smack dab in the middle. They can pretty much hit anything I charge as counter assault elements.

First Turn - BA
All my army is in reserves.

First Turn - SW
They spread out a bit and hold tight.

Second Turn - BA
None of my units come in except for Sanguinor in his pimp ride. The Stormraven floats in 6" outside of his ranged AT and I light up the landraider with 4 Bloodstrike missiles. One missile glances & immoblizes the landraider.

Second Turn - SW
Again my opponent holds the line.

Third Turn - BA
In comes Dante with friends plus the assault squad. Dante lands his combined unit beside the plasma toting Long Fangs while the assault squad drops in safely behind cover. Shooting sees the Long Fangs blown off the table. Sanguinor rides up in his Stormraven moving flatout. Shooting the multi-melta destroys one of the SW rhinos and the Grey Hunters take some losses from the ensuing explosion.

3rd Turn - SW
The Thunderwolves move up in position to charge Dante & friends. The Wolf Priest & terminators disembark ready to counter charge. The remaining rhino pulls up & the Grey Hunters also disembark ready to blaze away into the huge DC. Combined shooting into the DC kills four and Lemartes takes a wound. The Thunderwolves charge in but the Wolf Priest & WG termies just fall short. Dante & Lemartes combine to drop one Thunderwolf & the other two both take a wound. Combined attacks from the DC drop the rest of the Thunderwolves then the power fists & Wolf Lord swing simo... 3 more dead DC Marines & the power fist attacks kill the Wolf Lord. Dante & friends consolidate toward the SW line.

4th Turn - BA
Sanguinor dismounts ready to charge the Grey Hunters fallen out of the destroyed rhino. Dante & friends move into position to shoot & assault Wolf Priest & termies. Assault squad moves in to shoot & assault the other Grey Hunter squad embarked in the rhino encircling it. Stormraven explodes the rhino. Dante & friends wipe out Wolf Priest & termies with shooting & assault. Sanguinor kills over half the Grey Hunter squad on the charge. Landraider & One pack of Long Fangs are still left and get toasted over the next two turns.

Win for BA.

When a vehicle deepstrikes I do believe it counts as moving. Am i right?

Too bad your Sanguinor didn't do much, I think its better for him to be not in a transport, well that's just me.

I didn't deepstrike the Stormraven. It moved 6" on from my table edge. I have recently added the Stormraven to the list as an aid for Sanguinor, otherwise he tends to get shot up & dies. He worked very well this game being able to lend his +1A bubble to the deathstar. I could take another really nice unit in place of him for the points but as I said I really enjoy using him... You just have to be very careful how you use him with your movement.

That is about one of the most unbalanced army list I've seen. Then again, it's fairly typical of a lot of the BA lists I've seen - ultra-nasty and ultra-killy. Who cares about anything else. Just kill!!! Played against the right army list, it'll kick a$$. Against the wrong list, it'll kiss a$$. Not much can stand up to it in assault unless, of course, the opponent is real assaulty themselves and is able to deny you your charge.

Remember Dante has Hit & Run, so it's okay if the deathstar takes a charge.

Interesting list. Personally I'd love to know that was on the other side of the table from me but if it works for you then awesome. Also seemed like the SW player you played wasn't very good. But as long as your having fun with that list enjoy.

On a side note I don't have my BA codex with me but does Dante control the Death Companies Black Rage? I ask because with a unit that is most of your army your in trouble if someone actually decides to lead you around the table.

Reading the batrep it is easy to say youd love to face this list... on the other hand if you werent prepared it could catch offguard. I know, I know... mechdar YADA YADA YADA...

The SW player is a good player but has no GT level experience. I would not say he is a bad player by any means. Hulksmash I think what you really meant to say is he was not a yellow cur trying to run away... he stood and traded blows like a real Space Wolf would do.

Anyways it is very hard to lead around a squad of DC that large and they can assault whichever unit they like, not the closest. Basically to lead them around you will have to keep one unit closer than any other... it is not as easy as you think depending on where the DC lands plus with Dante they dont scatter. I have already beat down some IG Mexh armies with this list.

Why do you need the priests and the chappie? You already have FNP on the DC + Lemartes. How do you use them in this list?

They can either run with the DC to up the ablative wounds or join the assault squad to make them more of a heavy hitter in close combat. Or they can split off from the big scrum to tackle weak units in assault like Long Fangs.

My primary tourney army is Space Wolves and it really would have a blast against this. Like I said, there is power there. I just don't think of it as a take all comers list. And most all comer armies should be able to handle this.

Oh and spacewolves are smart. Wolf packs are known for having a member of the pack flee while another hamstrings so taunting and fient is very wolfy

The list is designed for fun play more than as purely competitive. That said it's not bad when it comes to winning games. Currently this is my best shot at a DC style list that has to table an opponent to win. Sanguinor is lots of fun so I have stuck with him for now. If I were to try to make the list more competitive I would drop him and add another assault squad plus a DC dread with Blood Talons to ride in the Stormraven.

I was going to take the list to a local RTT last weekend to see how it would fare in a tourney environment but unfortunately I caught a cold & could not attend. Hopefully I'll be able to get in a few test matches versus some fellow WC members during the evenings at Bolter Beach. What I have found so far is that is does very well versus other close combat armies and is not bad versus mech (treads) either. If I am facing off against another close combat army my opponent will have no problem drawing the deathstar into an assault & there is a good chance they will be able to charge. Because the DC is so large and I can parcel some of the wounds on the characters the deathstar can handle a charge, then use H&R to assault where I want my following turn. Usually by the end of a game I only have a few models left but the army as a whole can kill lots & lots. Sure there are some armies that can fairly easily avoid the deathstar but like I said above the army is more for fun & a challenge to myself. You can learn a lot playing unusual armies.

Oh and you're not supposed to take Dante with Sanguinor, else who's piloting the Iron-Man suit? Is this a War Machine Sanguinor Variant?

I like how blood angels became fast and killy thanks to the new dex.

Dante needs all the help he can get... Sanguinor not as much though.

Having faced large DC before I'd say some things are going to give you problems when talking about taking averages. Thraka and Diversified nobs getting the charge on you is going to hurt. You can't allocate wounds in CC to IC's unless attacks are directed to them, and all 23 WS 5/WS 7 power klaw attacks will be put on the DC. Now the DC may win the combat in the end, but they will be a gutted shell that then has to face the entire remainder of the army. There are other common units that are likely to do the same. Guard with all of it's FNP ignoring weapons while you're forced to assault one 165 point unit at a time

And lets not forget the good old SW making 48" of the board dangerous terrain tests everytime your units deepstrike and move, which allows neither armor saves nor FNP.

Still, it is a nasty list, just seems like with one hammer unit and the rest being largely inconsequential, it's all your eggs in a basket that is much more fragile than you seem to believe.

I never said it's not fragile but then again it's not that bad either. Against Thrakka in a battlewagon or trukk I would focus on taking out the transport first with side shots from the Stormraven. I'm thinking about working in a DC dread with Blood Talons to help deal with hordes... Can easily squeeze him by dropping a couple of characters.
