No one does, really. At least in my experience. Warhammer is fun, sex is better. I also smell troll.

Your question is phrased ambiguously.
Do you mean?:
1) Why do people take wargaming more seriously than their wife/girlfriend takes wargaming?
or, more likely:
2) Why do people take wargaming more seriously than they take their wife/girlfriend?
Not that this really requires a discussion, though I'm considering coming up with a well thought-out, logically reasoned argument, replete with pie charts and Venn diagrams.
But then I remember I have a modeling project I keep putting off.

Well how bout looking at it this way.
How many war gamers would rather go out to a dance club or bar in order to get pooty tang rather than going to game night. Now, then would those who would, actually go? probably not.

That is all situational. If it is something more than the partner simply expecting you to stay home, it is a bit OTT. Though if that is the case... its like people watching football, or going out drinking once a week.
When you're first dating probably not the best idea, though when you're close they shouldn't care.

Thousands? Really?
If you don't want to treat your woman right, send her to me. I'll teach her to paint, then deal with her later in the evening. I'll show her some games alright. I'll dress her up in the repenta suit and beat the emperor into her. If that doesn't work, I can always take her out for a nice dinner and a movie, then maybe drinks afterword.
Out of those thousands, start sending me some names. I've got time to deal with unsatisified girlfriends, wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters like that.
Reasons are whatever.
Unsatisfied MILFs are cool. I always have time for them.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Wings of Light wrote:I have no examples at hand right now, but I've heard thousands of people say that they have a game night and turn down on their gf(I dont know if i said it right) There's a difference between going to game night over hanging with your significant other when you see each other daily(you need time apart, no matter the relationship, and by your statement of "thousands", I believe this is the most probable scenario) and choosing game night over a significant other that you see only once or twice a week/month. Which situation are you talking about, because one is taking it more seriously, and one isn't. Clarify or this threat is useless and irrelevant. Wings of Light wrote:Those kinda of people are loyal friends, but not a very good husband/bf Ignorant inflammatory statement is inflammatorily ignorant. You're saying I'm a bad husband because I want to enjoy my hobby once a week?

I'm not sure its a preference thing as much as a space thing. If you're with you're gf/wife 24/7 then its good to have some space and hang with the guys on occassion. Alternatively, when it gets to be that time of the month you can retreat to the study to paint and give her some space.
