Greetings one and all!

This thread will chronicle my work on my new Chaos Marine chapter, the Pristine Angels. They are a segment of the Blood Angels chapter that was corrupted by the daemon Vol'Vash Mekhael, who appeared to the Chaplain Marcus Uriel in a dream in the guise of a golden angel and promised a cure for the Red Thirst. Now the Pristine Angels pillage the galaxy in the name of Slaanesh, whom they revere for releasing them from the horrid flaw inflicted upon them by that vile Emperor. A more detailed chapter history, along with several army lists, will come in time.

For now I'll give you a few pictures of my initial work. My marines are built from parts of standard chaos marines and loyalist marines, as well as the beautiful new Blood Angels plastics. The chapter colors will be purple and gold, as is typical of Slaaneshi worshippers. The icon is the same as the BA icon, except the colors--the wings will be gold and the blood drop will be blue rather than red, to signify the purity of the Angels' gene-seed.

Here is my first squad of marines, along with some daemonettes.

Now for my leaders, I'll be fielding a Daemon Prince, Vol'Vash the Archangel himself. I will be posting pictures of that WIP on this thread, but not just yet. My second HQ is Marcus Uriel, Keeper of Names, the former Blood Angels chaplain who was seduced by the Archangel. I'm using Astorath the Grim as the base model, but replacing the jet pack with the wings of a great eagle, and the axe with the spear from Morathi of the Dark Elves range. Here are a couple pictures of my initial glued fitting. I'll be disassembling this soon, and properly pinning it, then doing the necessary sculpting work to make it ready for painting.

Well there you have it; this is just the start! I only have one question. I'm hoping someone can direct me to one of those space marine paint scheme widgets so I can post the colors visually long before I actually paint these buggers.

Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to comment on what you see. I'll be posting pictures as regularly as I can.

Cheers,

Exile

Well, bigmek35 said it for me. However, the spear on Marcus Uriel seems off. Maybe moving the shaft back, and have his hands closer to the the head?

Yeah, Tim, I'm inclined to agree. This was my initial assembly, just to see how it all looks together, but I definitely want to change the spear so he's holding further up the haft. I just have to figure out how to do that first, since the hand is attached to the haft. I'll have to shorten it on the pointy end and extend it behind him with some paper clip or something. I really dislike working with long narrow objects like this because of the lack of surface area for a solid glue contact, so I'll have to devise a way to create more contact points using some green stuff and/or plasticard.

My other major concern is making sense of where the scrolls are connected to his waist. I'm hoping to make it look like their attached to his belt somehow. I have a chaplain's book bit in my box here that I wanted to use, but I'm not sure how to incorporate it.

I appreciate the votes of confidence

Cheers,

Exile

Looking good and an interesting fluff to boot.

Can't wait when the project is well under way and see some paint on the models.

Keep it up

Hmm, flayed skin is rather gruesome. How would I show show that they're skin rather than paper? Green stuff, or just painting them differently? Actually, the scrolls are a significant piece of Marcus Uriel's fluff. The reason he's called "Keeper of Names" is that he is the chaplain who kept a log of all of members of his company who succumbed to the Black Rage. The fact that he was constantly being reminded of the toll the Blood Angels' genetic flaw was taking on his brothers is why he was so vulnerable to Vol'Vash's manipulations. Now, he has not had to add a name to his book for centuries, but he keeps the lists with him at all times, and they fuel his hatred for the Emperor, whom he holds responsible for every name therein.

Really? I definitely did not know that, but it makes my fluff that much more interesting.

@bigmek - you can find my current army list over in the army list forum section. I just updated it today.

Very cool fluff, and very good looking so far! Hopefully you will get a better CSM codex soon to make up for the iffy rules currently :(

Oh, and one trick that makes scrolls look more like skin (even if it is a little cheap) is to add some red wash to them for a slightly pink tone. Usually I will do Vallejo pale flesh with whitegrey hightlights then a wash of Gryphone Sepia and then a sorta wash sorta painted on bit of baal red. Makes for a slightly pink papery look, with redder bits in the deep spots and suggests skin while looking sorta parchmenty. Sort of the problem is that parchment (fancy paper for scrolls) is made from skin, and so the colors are not too different. Adding the pink just makes it look fresher. Adding a ragged, more torn from the body look to the edges helps too.

That is both creepy and awesome; thank you! I'm a complete novice when it comes to painting. I'm embarrassed to admit that this will be the first of my armies I'll actually paint, and I've played warhammer for years. Fortunately, I've got lots of old models to test paint.
