Maybe I am just missing it totally, which I am more than willing to admit, but how do you tell the difficulty of a monster as opposed to the rank of the PCs. Im not seeing anything that looks like a rank, level or challange rating for the monsters in this game. Am I just missing it or am I just supposed to guestimate and hope for the best.

I was afraid of that... thanks for clearing that up though.
I do find it to be a bit of a stupid move on their part. Seems like the vast majority of companies have tried to move forward with making things easier on both the player and GM side to get the game moving and something like this is just a hinderance.

Well, Dark Heresy has the ratings because well.. there's a reason you roll half a dozen characters at the outset of the game.

Rogue Trader is not like DnD, that's why. DnD is built for a specific set of gamers, ones that like a combative challenge that is ultimately beatable (I.e. the power balance slightly tipped towards the players.)
In RT, the setting is based on the hopelessness and despair of living on the brink of destruction, ALL THE TIME. Therefore, the players will likely come up against situations where there is no hope. It makes the victory all the more satisfying! However, get used to creating new characters often. Also, RT rewards creative thinkers, and players that can solve the problem of conflict outside of their normal combat capabilities. (I.e, using a mounted turret to blow away a particularly nasty daemon/xenos)
