Hey Epic fans, how goes it? I am going to try my hand at Epic gaming soon, and will start assembling some Imperial Guard. I picked them up years back at a clearance sale, and it's quite the company of metal!

A big question for me is this: is it acceptable to base the infantry and tanks on 25 mm round bases? I am thinking of using 3 infantry models to a 25 mm base, just to make the metal infantry go further. I'm hoping to add lots of details to the base like craters, tree limbs, disposed weapons, rubble, enough to make it a fun modelling project. The tanks just look nice mounted on a base as well. I'm mostly using the Epic: Armageddon IG models and there is little model variation, so I want to challenge myself on the bases.

The odds of me having a game in my area area slim (until I model a second faction) but in the future I'd like to use these models against other forces. What kind of tactical implications are there to using round 25mm infantry bases? I'm an informed newbie, and just don't want to model myself into a corner!

Go for it.

Plenty of people are basing stuff on circular bases these days.

Do it, it opens up a lot more modelling possibilities compared to the strip bases they're supplied with.

Tanks also get less damaged if you mount them on bases.

Tactical implications are incredibly minor and not worth mentioning.

Excellent! I did a bit of searching after making the post, and found a lot of recent armies based on rounds too, I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

All my fig's are based, Infantry on the old square bases, vehicles on FOW bases. Not only does it protect the figs it also gives a better look

"You smell dat? Do you smell dat? Napalm, son. Nofing else in da galaxy smells like dat. I love da smell of napalm in da morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' 'ummie body. Da smell, you know dat gasoline smell, da whole hill. Smelled like... victory."

i use square bases made from the modular movement trays from GW.
i either scratch build or buy second hand so.. well.. y`no.. well i can get 3 landraiders for £1.20 compared to £20.75 from GW

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

Yup, I recently built an all metal ig army using a crapload of 1st ed blisters I got cheap.

I used 2p coins and put 5 per base but the actual number of infantry per base in irrelevant.
