I am recently rejoining the fun of 40k and looking at my bedraggled Nid army, I decided some upgrades were needed. Acquiring the codex and seeing the new creatures, I decided to get busy. I purchased two Trygons and have them fully magnetized so I am able to switch back and forth between the various models. Next I plan to purchase some fex's and scratch build a tervigon. Needing a break from trygon magnetizing hell, I built a mycetic spore from some materials I had laying around. It's still a WIP, but I thought I'd show it here.

Materials used:

1 styrofoam egg from Hobby Lobby
Plasticard
GS
Left over bits from the trygon

What I have accomplished took me about 3 hours. I made the base from some left over wood I have laying around.

This is a tervigon?

It looks to me like a mycetic spore?

He says its a mycetic spore, so I guess it's a compliment that you can recognize it without knowing what it was to be.

But yeah, I think it looks pretty nice. I personally would try to angle it more, to appear as though it crashed down into the surface, rather than skimmed along, personally. But nice sculpting!

Hmm, apologies, misread that.

Looks good.

Thanks! I agree it should be angled more so it looks like it crashed, so I did. I spent the past few days assembling and priming my zoanthropes and hive guard before getting back to the spore. I angled it and worked on the base making it look like the spore crashed through a wall.

I had some extra green stuff so I twisted it some and tried to make it look like some ripper tentacles were emerging from the debrie.

Looks awesome so far! But I am a little scared by those claws pushing your Codex in the background...

A little update.

I've been busy trying to paint my army. I forgot how time consuming such a task was... anyways, I've painted the spore and thought I would post for comments and suggestions. I'm not completely happy with how it turned out.

I'm already planning a different route on modeling the next one.

Been awhile since I posted any updates. I've been painting my army which is taking awhile. I'll post some of the painted models later. Now I am throwing up some pictures of my tervigon WIP. Its modeled on the carnifex frame with lots of GS work. I've extended the ribcage so I could give it a more flat profile instead of the upright tervigons I've seen modeled. C&C welcome!

Tervigon finished except for some final mold line removal. It was an interesting project, but now I'm going to make a tyrannofex. Like the tervigon, I'm going to use a carnifex as the base model. As pormised, some pics of my models I've finished painting. C&C welcome.

Maybe its just the photo, i know red can look a bit funky in photos. But the red looks very solid like it hasn't been washed, if it hasn't i would definitely recommend washing it with a brown to bring out the details. And highlighting the ridges of the carapace.

otherwise very nice painting/modeling!

Urgh.... Why can't a stork deliver the baby termagants? Oh how rude forgot to say thumbs up for the modelling.

I've made some progress on the tyrannofex I'm converting from a carnifex model. I'm trying to make it look as close to the codex picture as posible. I've taken the carnifex torso and extended the ribcage and bulked up the torso. I've combined two shells to make it one shell. I still havent worked out where and how I am going to position the legs and arms that will be holding the rupture cannon. The rupture cannon I've decided will be coming from his mouth, so I've cut the lower jaw off the head and used the tusked on the end of the tail. The over all appearence of the creature will flat instead of standing horizontal. I've still got a lot of work to do. Some pics. C&C welcome!
