Cheers guys. Not too sure how many I'm going to do yet but gonna at least have a small platoon (2 squads + PCS), company command squad and a squad of vets. As the heads aren't too complicated they don't really take too long. Gonna break the monotony up here and there with tanks to keep from getting dulled out and getting distracted like I usually do!
Painting is underway! here's a quick WIP photo. I'm not sure if they look too clean at this point. Going to weather the metal parts further but it's the fatigues I'm really concerned about. Any suggestions?

Looks solid, but one minor suggestion. Change the colors on the masks as that will help them stand out more. ATM they blend in with the fatigues way to much.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

@Empchild: they're kinda supposed to blend in with the fatigues to look part of the same kit, however I do see your point. Going to try washing the fatigues again to darken/grubby them but leave the masks and see how it looks then.
@SilverMK2: colours (so far) are-
Fatigues:
Black undercoat
Khemri brown
Vallejo Model Colour Dark Sand - not in recesses
All over wash of Devlan Mud
Highligh with Dark Sand
Metals:
Black undercoat
Boltgun Metal
Wash of 50:50 black ink / water

I have to say that I love the colours as they are - they look kind of washed out and grimy. If you wanted the hoods a slightly different colour, you could try a really weak red wash or something?
But I personally think the hoods look good the same colour as the fatigues. And the metal looks really great too. Servicable and slightly worn.

Have spent a while looking at the fatigues and can't decide whether to darken them or not yet so will do the weapon arms and see how they look as a whole before progressing further with them.
@Howard A Treesong: I hadn't noticed how much they look like Norts but you're right! Might dig out some 2000ad's for inspiration if I get bored.
@Empchild: The respirators are made out of 5mm and 3mm plastic tubing and cut up bits of cotton buds / q-tip and bits of plasticard. Look better painted than freshly cobbled together as this (giant) WIP photo illustrates:

Slowly making progress. Think I'm gonna leave the colours of the fatigues at this point as they balance out quite nicely and should still have enough contrast with the lasguns. Going to do those in a minimalist black look.
Added more detail to the respirators, these are just a quick final highlight away from endgame.
Also reinforcements turned up in the post today in the form of this monstrosity of a basilisk I got for a steal on ebay. Was badly listed with a low quality photo and yes, the barrell was this way around - luckily it's not glued on! Was prepared for half hour with scalpel to remove it. Just needs an operation to move the wrongly placed weapon platform, the 'interesting' paint job stripped and a gunshield knocked up from plasticard. Missing a few bits of track as well but after ordering those on a bits site it still only rocked in at £8, so GW can poke their £25

Sorry for the lack of updates, been a bit busy and got distracted sculpting a priest to go with my renegades. Will sort out some pics of those guys finished this week, along with some shots of the rest of the squad.
For the moment here is a photo of the WIP sarge, still needs his respirator attached and hose connected. The plasticard cleaver didn't photograph too well due to the background. Hopefully will look more chaos-y than orky when its painted up.
I've also stripped most of the awful paint from that basilisk and replaced the missing track parts. If I have time this week I'll also put together a gun shield for it - thinking of doing a Vanaheim pattern one as they dont look quite so godawful..

Well here we are at update time - a little later than planned. Sorry about that!!
A few shots of the first half of this squad finished (bar a few retouch bits I've noticed in photographing them). Quite happy with how they have turned out. Bases look less 2d in real life, although I'm tempted to add a further highlight to the ground parts.
Having hammered out all the colour choices and thoughts with those ones progress should be a bit faster with the other half of the squad. Speaking of which..
Just a few mould lines to take off and gaps to fill then I can begin painting those up. Hoping to have those done pretty quick.
Just in case anyone reading is getting bored of seeing the same guys over and over (won't happen quite so much in future I promise) here are a couple of WIP pics of a servitor I cobbled together to accompany a tech priest at some point later on.
That's all for now folks.

Cheers guys. Got the second half of the squad primed up today so should be able to start painting tomorrow.
@Demented Gremlin: The paint was stripped from the tank using fairy power spray and some scrubbing with a toothbrush.
@col. krazy kenny: Am tempted to look into mold making stuff, more for the respirators than the hoods/masks/heads. The heads don't take years to sculpt and are fun to do but the resps are a real fiddly glue-soaked time sink.

The scheme is really great. I dont understand why the other poster wanted you to change the colour of the masks I think they look fine. i have to say Kudos for making renegades who look as good as forgeworld ones.
For some reason the cadians look better with the masks then as the regular kit.. Must be my traitor heart.

Wow.. Can't believe it's been a month since I last updated! Oops! Well progress has been a bit slow as I have been distracted by other things. However, over the next few days I should get that first squad (sigh...) finally done and photographed properly. Decided that the fatigues didn't quite 'pop' enough so have added a final highlight of vallejo light sand which I think brings them out enough without taking away the gritty-ness. Have also completed the gun shield for the basilisk 90% now, and made some alterations to the rear platform so should be some pics of that up before I lay into it with paint.
Picked up a dirt cheap badly listed chimera from ebay the other day as well so when I have finally built my melta-vets they will have something to ride around in. Got it stripped of its green paint yesterday and took out the lasguns from the firing ports at the back. Just need to remove the gunner and storm bolter and replace with a closed hatch then that'll be ready for some paint as well. Hoping to do that and the basilisk together but will have to see.
Have even cobbled together a simple display board thing for my renegades to loiter upon, which just needs a few more coats of paint so I'll throw some photos of that up when its done as well for good measure! If nothing else it should at least make looking at pictures of them a little more interesting.
So keep you eyes peeled folks - updates over the next few days.
