Subject: Althran and Spinetail Released Oct. 23 in Extreme Short Supply, at least in North America

Back on September 6, Games Workshop announced the release of two special miniatures available in their stores on October 23 as part of the Island of Blood core set global mega-battle promotion. The models are High Elf Prince Althran and Skaven Warlord Spinetail, key characters in the background tale for Island of Blood. I can't speak for anywhere other than the US, but I can tell you that in spite of what appears to be a relatively high demand for these models in many of their North American stores GW has shipped only a token number of these miniatures to those shops. A poll of a few different shops in my area reveals that each store only received two to four copies of each model to sell. If it's like that all over North America this will mean that the models will sell out extremely quickly and GW has not said anything about whether or not these models would be available later on their website or through restocking at their stores. In other words, if you really wanted one or both of these special edition models they may prove rather difficult to obtain and likely impossible for many customers. Store operators will be upset because it will cut into their potential sales for the day and many customers will be disappointed that they could not obtain models that they really wanted. Customers who miss out on these will just have to hope that GW makes them available again somehow at least for a while after the event.

There isn't a GW anywhere in our area,, and the models are ugly anyway. Sorry to sound bitter, but I'm happy our LGS's rule and we don't need a GW anyway.

Thankfully my LGS ordered a few of each. Neither sculpt screams out to me but I will get the skaven one, that way I have a unique-ish model for my army.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

I ordered a few, but 0 people actually said ahead of time they wanted them. Nothing was ever indicated that they were limited, or would ever get rules for regular play as special characters, that I saw.

Got this in my email from them today:
When you get to your local Hobby Centre, there will be limited numbers of the Prince Althran on foot and Warlord Spinetail miniatures available for you to buy.
If you don't manage to get your hands on these models on the day, then don't worry - you can also order them from the in-store terminal or directly from games-workshop.com
So hopefully means you will be able to order them if you don't get one on Saturday.

I like the Skaven, and if I played WHFB Id be really, really pissed about it only being in the stores, being that the closest one to me is several states and something like 400 miles away.
I cant believe in a state the size and population of Florida doesnt even have one GW store.
OOPS...missed the part about ordering online...

I just got home and back online and saw the "you can order these models online" message from GW. Smart move considering how few they sent to stores. And before today there was no indication there would be any other way to get them. People at my local store were getting pretty worried. This is good news for customers and a good sales for tactics GW, it seems a lot of customers do want the models.

Glad to hear that since I couldn't hit the local GW when it opened today like I'd planned... MO here I come!

They went fast at my local GW store.
They got 5 of each in. I was waiting for the door to open in the morning and grabbed the last Althran.
