Hello to all Dakka-ites! I'm somewhat new to all this posting business, but i will try my best to make this legible and coherent.

generally i'm a magic: the gathering player. i love the instant gratification of playing a game that get's done in a relatively short amount of time. Some times, however, wizards produces horrible sets, that just don't appeal to me at all. c'est la vie!

It's at times like that when i turn to my new (relatively) hobby: painting and modeling warhammer 40k! i love it! and it's somewhat cheaper than magic

without too much more prelude, i'm gonna post some pics of what i'm working on these days. I'm looking to get some feed back on ways to improve my techniques, and give you something to look at and think about.

Plus now that i'm layed off, i have more time for this neat!

One more quickie: i don't actually play much, so most of my WIP is for fluff reasons, or cause i like the model and want to try out a new scheme. I'd like to play perhaps but i don't have 1200 points of anything competitive. Besides, I'd rather just look at them anyway.

On with the show. I hope you enjoy.

this army's suppose to be chaos so here's a big black chaos lord i'm looking forward to painting

I love the possessed models. I hear they're unreliable; i rely on them to be cool B)

another possessed that i'm pleased with

summoned lesser deamon. I may end up with a demon army at some point, but the models look cool

this guy is a convert from a berserker. the psycolobotomy + nurgles rot = win

[Thumb - PC080056.JPG]
here's another convert. he started life as a berserker, now claimed by nurgle

Hi to all again, and thanks for the comments guys. i just wanted to give a little update and post a few pics. ya gotta love the pics.

A touch of the prelude: this summer i bought myself a computer controlled router (CNC). I kinda had the idea that i'd like to have one at home, being as it's what I've been doing for work for the last 8 years. Now that I'm laid off, I"m very glad I did I made this nice decorative figure stand. The slots that fit the bases are a little too close together but I'll fix that on the next run.

I found a tutorial on using glazes to blend colours, so i went and got me some liquitex glazing medium and had a go at it. what a wicked difference that makes! so exciting! I want to do the chaos lord with fully blended armor so i'm gonna practice a little more, then do that.

As i continue to convert berzerkers into plauge marines i realized that for all my searching on the web, i only by chance stumbled upon (and yet not the program) one video that pointed me in a better direction than i was going. Maybe it's not news to many people, but it was news to me: there are sweet sculpting tools out there that will make sculpting more fun and easier. The reason that i didn't get started sooner doing reworks with green stuff, was because i couldn't get the surface smooth in any kind of descent time. The green stuff was curing before i could get a smooth finish. It was too much messing around and i didn't want to do that. For this reason i'm posting some of my nurgley work cause i heard that nurgle was easy to sculpt, and that's where i'm starting.

hope you enjoy the pictures, and the last one is gonna be my bedroom workstation.

I hope you enjoy

Hello again, Dakka-ites, welcome to the episode where I talk about the pain of painting too long. Yesterday I had me a paint FEST!! I got up early, had my coffee, and felt ready to tackle the boss of chaos ; the red lord of khorne!! BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!

whoop... Settle down in front...

I didn't jump straight into painting the big guy though (every one knows: white men can't jump [or at least they did anyway ]) I started by warming up on a practice possessed. As he was co-operating and had only details left to go, I moved on to his master. Things went soooo well for about 4 hours.

Do you guys use blue tack on old pots to make a holder for your guys? You know like when you paint? Could you tell me the brand? I think I must have the wrong stuff cause suddenly the sion of skulls took a tumble right onto his boss pole and broke it right off. Ouch!

That was were the trouble started. I don't remember how i got that thing stuck on there in the first place, but i had to drill a large hole in big boys back to get the stick to stick Straight up again. see pics below.

The lesson for this week is make time for to do other things. After you've had a reasonable time modeling, maybe try some yoga give the paint some time to dry and work on something else. That way you (hopefully) don't take two steps backwards after taking only one step forwards.

I suppose it's all about knowing when to quit.

I never was a quitter though.

I hope you enjoy!

I love the way the testers enamel looks like blood. Too bad about the back though :(

[Thumb - lava base.jpg]
I haven't quite figured out how to make the cork bases look good yet. I want'em to be lava, maybe I'm reaching too far?

[Thumb - nurgle comparison.jpg]
tired of painting after the dropping fiasco, i never the less continue painting even though i was botching (Botulism?) it up. :/ Do you prefer the plauge marine on the right or on th left?

[Thumb - cnc stuff.jpg]
this is the reason i did't do any paining today. Been in the woodshed playing with tools :)

[Thumb - PC140042.JPG]
another possesed ready(ish) for rebasing

[Thumb - PC140055.JPG]
Look over there in the bushes! hmmm. kinda reminds me of the next model i'm gonna attempt

[Thumb - PC140052.JPG]
