Hi Everyone just dropping by to say hello, I'm brand new to the 40k wargaming but not to the universe. I guess my first question would be, whats the best way to start. Looking at going with Dark Angel SM, but I really have no clue on where to begin. Thanks!

Welcome to dakka dakka!

And als go with the army you think is cool. As it will be you who will play it. But I suggest, before buying anything that you look around on the internet. If it really is what you want. Or else you will end up with something you will never use.

If your new, nothing beats the Assault on Black Reach boxed set! Even if you dont plan on playing orcs or space marines, you still get a sizable amount of mini's, rule book, templates, and more. Welcome to the Dak!

Welcome to dakka.

If I was starting out (with space marines) I'd make my own chapter so I could use any SM army list by changing a few models in the army.

Welcome! What 40k stuff did you do before the tabletop game? Dark Heresy?

Also, I would agree with everyone above: go with what you think is the coolest.

When I was twelve, I played the Orks because I had a goofy personality and enjoyed games that would be entertaining to narrate.

When I reentered wargaming, I started an Imperial Guard army because I enjoyed the flexibility and had created an interesting fluff for the army.

So in conclusion, it's all up to your preference. If you're asking for advice on an army that will win every battle, then I won't be able to help. I personally think what makes this game great is the fluff and style, so I base all my armies on that.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/370464.page ------ Look at that. I have a blog.
