mankato mn

hi, im from mankato. 18 years old, I'm in to the whole war game thing, i've mainly created my own amature war games and rpg (witch i won't push on to you guys) but i have found some interest into some of the more comercial war games f.e. warhammer 40k. i have always been curious about wh 40k. i love the models because i am a model builder myself (mostly ww2 and modern).
I've come to a conclusion that i would like to try it out, hence the reason i came here.

my main question for the wh 40k fans here:

impearial gaurd or the tau

i've done back ground checks on the info on both and ive watched a few battle reports on both.

i like the gaurd cus its more my style of art work and the ependibility of the infantry. i like the tau cus well they look pretty sweet and the powerfull tech they got plus the starter kits ive been finding for them are cheeper.

i can't make my mind up and i dont want to do both cus i dont have that kind of money.

perhaps when im done making the models i could head up to minneapolis for some sort of schedualed game if any of that kind of stuff still goes on lol.

lastly any recomendations to where i could buy this stuff the cheepest would be greatly apreciated

thanks

Welcome.... pull up an ale and have a chair.

As for your army choice, Guard tend to be about two things.... Armor and numbers.
Same could be said for Tau, though their "armor" is the suits, and they tend to have fewer models.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

First of all, welcome to dakka!

That's a tough choice. I myself play Tau and I've won a few games, against Orks none-the-less. However, Tau do have their short comings. They aren't very forgiving, they have to be played well tactically. If you enjoy shooting everything and are looking for a challenge, Tau are the way to go. I think you're right, Tau are cheaper to get into, too, mainly because IG have soooooo many tanks. I'm pretty sure IG are way more competitive than Tau, though.

That's quite a predicament. I chose guard because of the fluffability.

Welcome to dak dakยก Guard are more competitive from the get go but Tau can be devastating when played properly. I myself had a strong ork list and have been beaten by tau pretty easily within 5 rounds.

Welcome.

Sounds like you either want the aesthetically pleasing army or the gaming style army.

I'd go for the aesthetically pleasing army and play it hard.
