Subject: Anyone else really interested in Mortal Kombat 9?
I only change the Title because not alot of Responses, though I am trying to keep you guys up to date :(
Well, the goriest fighter is making a comeback, and I have to say, these X-Ray Moves are making me cringe. And this is coming from a guy who loves Splatterhouse, Gears of War, and Dead Space.
WARNING: NOT FOR THE SQUEAMISH!
Some comments: Only MK games I have played is MK1 and 2, along with VS DCU, and I must say, I hate what they did to Reptile...
My brother has been spamming my inbox for awhile now with game play footage galore. We used to be highly competitive with each other at the arcades for the first 3 MK games. I never really played any of those after that, but he played them all, even the mythologies.
With that said, I have been highly impressed with the previews of MK 9. Probably t=one of the best things about this game is the online competition. Arcades have all but disappeared and fighting games on consoles haven't been that great over the last decade. If you didn't have a group of friends at a house with a big screen TV, fighting games just didn't have the same feel that they had at the arcade.
However online fighting has gotten a lot better in the last few years, so here is hoping that feel of the first few games come back with MK 9.
That dude who made all those predictions about MvC3, Lupinko, has made alot of them regarding this game, too. Here is what he says:
Kintaro is in and is a boss
-Red woman is playable but has NO NAME YET
-Quan Chi is in
-Dan forden Returns
-Graphics update
"just to mention, whatever that was previous mentioned, due to UE3 graphics update, now looks reaaaaaally good"
-Sheeva in and has her skin rip fatality.
-Kabal in and has all of his MK3 moves.
-Shangs Alternate is an old man
-Krypt is back
-Shang Tsung has his soul steal special move again
-Sindel Fatality: Screma in one ear and the other side of the head explodes.
-Sonyas fatality, splits the opponent up with her legs.
-Sonyas alt: Cap, Sunglasses and a white tanktop
-Kano is still against sonya and jax.
-Sindel xray: crotch kick and snaps an elbow backwards then a throw
-Kano Licks his Knife (id immagine this implies hes in aswell)
-"damn him and his missiles and his hyakuretsu ken, and bicycle copter"-Sektor refference obveously. (OMG classic cyrax fatality to sektor!?)
-"yes, if you press start and down on the d-pad whenever I post, Robo-lupinko is unlocked"-SMoke? (So you get Robo-Smoke then?)
-a "Creepy Laboratory stage" where people are disected." (Casselman loses it, thats CLEARLY a Lin Kuei HQ where the Cyborgs are created)
Also sais a body hanging upside down with the chest open n skin stretched out is there.
-Raiden's Alternate is Black with Different lightning effects around his body.
-Earthrealm City in mid-merging with outworld.
-Classic Music is back (possibly unlocked)
-Johny Cage will fight Goro at some point (or at least hinted by a video link)
-Shao Kahn has taunts, a GREEN hammer and his upwards shadow dash.

This, however, looks really awesome. I'm hoping for some sort of character creation tool, though, but this time it had better be done right.
MK created.... or rather, Kreated the ESRB? I know Splatterhouse was the first game to have a "Warning: Mature Content" Label on it, but I never knew.....
I honestly don't see the appeal of Create a Character in fighting games. All your really doing is just putting a skin on another character, which is kind of scary.... seeing a big burly manly man waving his arms around like a chick (honestly, could you image someone like Nightwolf playing with his curves after ripping someone's head off?)
As of right now, I am looking at Sektor. Robots are cool, Ninjas are cool. Robot Ninjas? AWESOMESAUCE!

Mortal Kombat was, indeed, responsible for the ESRB (or the last straw, if you will, with games like Doom and Splatterhouse being the catalysts). It was the first game to really throw the media into a mass hysteria like it did, and due to it's widespread popularity, there were quite a few protests and attempted public lawsuits against the game. Out of this panic rose the compromise that games have an enforced ratings system to keep minors from being exposed to such content, and thus, the ESRB was born. It's arguably a good thing that Mortal Kombat was able to bear the brunt of this full-on media assault, or otherwise we probably wouldn't have half of the games we do today.
I remember this vaguely; it actually managed to be one of the biggest controversies of the 90's. I'm sure you can find information on it if you look.
As for Character creation, even a costume system with which you edit your chosen character's appearance would be fine with me. Costumes/character creation simply give you some sort of reason to keep playing (beyond simply mastering the game), and it gives you a memorable avatar to use in online battles. There's honestly no harm in it if it's done decently.

Huh, didn't know that, thanks
And I don't know, I saw too many KKK members on SoulCalibur to ever be appreciative of Character Creation as skin only. Now, if they let you change up and choose moves (Scorpions spear along with Baraka's Chop Chop Blades, for instance), that I could get behind.

Some big announcement is coming on Tuesday, I'll have it posted up as soon as I hear it.
Friendships are rumored to be in the game.
For those of you who don't know what Friendships are, they are basically a way to end the match, much like Fatalities, that don't actually kill your opponent. Johny Cage would hand them a autographed photo, Sub Zero pulled out a doll, all htat jazz.

Funny thing: Noob's X-Ray attack was censored. Now, having said that, go up and look at the video where Johnny Cage gets buzzsawed in half, and now ask yourself one question: What the HECK does Noob do to get censored?

I was rewatching that video last night and youre right, they cut out like the first second of the move. Makes me wonder what they might be trying to keep secret...
Malifaux - Rezzers
The Other Side - King's Empire & Abysinnia
40K - Iron Hands

I'm told that teeth fly, but I don't know if there is any truth to it.

I haven't bought/played a fighting game for years now.
