Like I said, absolutely terrible!! I'll see a unit of troops, or a cool model, or hear a cool phrase and immediately my mind jumps to wargamming... but not in the normal way
Within minutes I'll be on my computer and looking up models, bitz, prices, artwork... and before long I'll have an entire army planned out in my head, conversions and all! Because, honestly, what's the point of an army unless you make it your own?

To present an example of this, today I was logging on to GW to check out the What's New Today post and I felt my heart stop a little, when I saw this beauty...

Oh my god... it's beautiful!!

So my mind immediately began on a plan for a spider based army... in my head I began going through possible lists... I considered Dark Elves first, with this thing representing a Hydra, then thought that I didn't really want it to breath fire... this led me tho think of mounting a gun of some kind on it's back... which lead me to 40k... which led my to the Dark Eldar..
Immediately I was googling images of Lolth, the D&D Dark Elf Spider Godess:

And now I have a concept! A band of Dark Eldar exiles, roaming the webway, worshiping a greater deamon (or something) they never see, but know is always there... A spirit of the webway that haunts their souls, like a distant echo... And slowly, as they continue on their never ending search for this being of shadow and memory... their bodies begin to change...

Lolth immediately brought me to Driders, Half Elf and Half Spiders, that were her halmark... Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you my Drider-Jetbike-Reaver Stand In!

courtesy of Reaper Miniatures

Now I wouldn't want them all to have the same torso, so I started thinking about replacements... and came up with this :

I would cut off the attached leg, and leave the loincloth to hide where I would join it to the Reaper body...
Probably pair this with either Deamonette heads or the DE helmates...
And I wouldn't want claws so I would have to find replacement hand weapons from either the D Ealdar or D Elf Lines, which shouldn't be too hard!

And this is just the begining... my mind is also going towards;
-possibly using that monstrasity as a transport? Mounting a gun on it's back and using the DE that come with the raider to hang all over it?
-Using the Goblin Spiders;

As something... either mounts for Hellion Counts-As or repositioning them onto round bases and using them as Mandrakes?
-Wytch conversions, because their daggers look like fangs and they acctually use a net (spider web? ) as one of their special weapons?
-Finding a use for this model:

or this one;

... And the list goes on!
The problem is, I don't have the time or financial resources to create anything that I come up with! I'm a full time student, with an army already underway, and I can barely handle that!
So I humbly stick this idea here, hoping that someone, somewhere might find a use for it!
I only ask... If this does inspire you to create something spider themed, or you use any of the ideas here, let me know? I want to see them in the flesh!

Nids was the first thought that popped into m head when i saw the big beasty spider.
Mainly a Tervigon list, using the spider riders spiders (without the riders) as gaunts... say... 3/4 huge spiders spawning wave after wave of little spider babies!!!

I can't wait to see the things people use the gigantic spider for... tervigons being the most obvious (and an awesome use for it) altough using smaller spiders as guants takes it to a whole 'nother level!

To the OP, I think we all have this disease, although yours looks to be a bit... shall we say, "stage 3" to me

Interesting. I am not set up this way. While I see the cool model, I usually think of an application to say, a D&D campaign or something. It is why I have crap tons of PP models, but don't really play their games.

I like some spiders, but a spider army wouldn't really occur to me. I wouldn't mind seeing someone make an army like that, though.

I'm glad to see that other people think like this!! I've decided that, rather than keeping these plans and ideas I'm unlikely to use locked up in my head, I might as well share them with the community, and see if they inspire anyone!

I'm exactly the same way. I see a model that I suddenly love and the next thing I know I'm planning out a big army around it. Usually in the end, I scrap my ideas because I come to the conclusion that I can't even find the time to finish what's on my desk now let alone a whole new army.

I thought of the dark elf spider army at one point too, if I ever do make one some day you can bet I'll be using the new orc spider as my centerpiece model.

I also had an idea for chaos smurfs, night goblins with white robes and blue skin. Riding spiders and stuff too.

But, for real.. I hate spiders. like, really really really hate them. if I see one, I spout off a bunch of obscenities and then terminate with extreme prejudice.

LOL, that would be pretty funny.

Me too, outside they can stay alive, but in my spaces, they become paste and then wadded toilet snacks.

Also these:

are really killer, I was going to use a pair of these for demonic slanesh demon princesses! They are demon prince sized! Holy Dryder! Good models that!

In WHFB it would be a giant on a monsterous mount who likes to hang with a bunch of goblin spider riders.
In 40k, Defiler aligned with Slannesh, with some conversion work.

Then again to go way out there, convert the spider to ride the giant.

Spider daemonattes has ben done to death (with them representing fiends/seekers) and the flaw in your ideas is that daemons cannot enter the webway...

A very cool idea, but spiders as jetbikes seems like quite a stretch.
