I've heard it for weeks now... A skittering, scratching sound... A gnawing at the edge of my sanity...
I know others have heard it too... Others before me...
They listened to it... Followed it where it led... And Where it lead... was greatness...
I've held out longer than those who came before...
Blackhand...
Santobell...
But in time, all who hear the call will give in...
So... I emerge from the shadows of DakkaDakka... Into the blinding light of the P&M Forums...
Wherein I walk with gods...
To bring you all... My Skaven of the year 40,000...
The Nezumi.

Wow, that turned into a longer introduction than I had planned... Ah well!

I think that pretty much summed it up though! I had an Idea, came to Dakka, found others who had had a similar Idea (Santobell and Blackhand, as mentioned above, are well into creating beautiful 40k Skaven armies, you should check out their P&M blogs too!) and, inspired, decided to actually put my crazy ideas into paint and plastic!

I will update this as frequently as I am able to get things done, unfortunately it may be a little while between updates, I'm at University in the States, and a lot of my conversion bits come from across the pond, and take a while to get here... however, between picture updates, I will do my best to try to fill in the fluff surrounding the Nezumi!

So, with all that said, it is my pleasure to present... the First Brood of the Nezumi!

Questions, Comments and CC are always appreciated!
-Josh

@Warboss Imbad Ironskull: Actually Nezumi means 'rat' or 'mouse' in Japanese, but often comes associated with were-rat like creatures I thought it would be cool considering the Japanese influences (imho) in the Skaven line...

@privateherbert24 Thanks for the subscription! Yeah, they required some cutting, and they take an incredibly long time to be delivered (at least these ones did) but i think they work well Especially how well they fit into the hands:

I know it's a terrible picture, but if you can see, the top finger actually looks like it's pulling the trigger! Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised...

Have you thought on any color schemes? And where did you get those lovely guns?

I think the shields really detract from the futuristic look, especially because they are wood. Since you are taking a fantasy army to 40k, i think you have to do a bit more, to set it apart from the basic fantasy form, than just slapping a gun on the model. A shield such as these rats have would make it hard to hold a rifle and it detracts from the believability.

Would it be possible to shave the shields off or scrape the wood grain detail off them? Are there different rat models that do not have shields in their left hands?

Also maybe some Scifi backpacks or other details to bring them more into the future and out of the fantastic past.

@A Black Ram: Thanks! Yeah, I'm still working on the specifics though... I'm thinking, something like Black, with blue edges (ala Dark Eldar) for the hard metals (armor and blades); dark bronze for the soft metals (decoration) and blue-gray/bone for the cloth

@crimsonmicc: Thank you so much for the constructive criticism!
Atually the wood grain and the shields were both intentional choices! You'll see it reoccurring throughout other models that I make too I like the duality of the wood with futuristic metals and alloys to really get across the scavenger nature of these guys.
I'll certainly consider the backpacks, I do like the silhouette, but I'll try some stuff out and see what looks good.
As a side note, I would appreciate you not implying that I just 'slapped a gun on a model'... I did do a lot of work finding the right gun and, and it was rather difficult getting them on the models... I know that for other people, it wouldn't be much, but for me it was a challenge!
Thanks so much for your help though!

Nezumi simply means rat/mouse, not wererat.

What army list are you using?

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/324182.page

edit: Oops, missed the bit where you said you are going wioth Dark Eldar. Yeah, the poisoned weapon thing works. It'd be interesting to see an analysis of what models would fit what units from the DEldar army. Certainly, Doomwheels converted to make Gyrocoptors would be flimsy enough to be quite DEldary. I may go and do the same for DEldar as I did for Eldar.

I like them! and the DE codex will fit nicely with the ratties as well the only thing and it's just me but the guns are a bit to human now looking at them you could trim the barrel back and the grenade launcher back to it's hand hold and you will have a more sci-fi and more non human weapon maybe remove the sight/handle as well but yeah nice so far and I'll look forward to seeing these guys expanded and eventually completed!

I like the guns/ and the idea of using the DE codex. Rules should fit in nice.

I really dislike the shields, no reason to have them and takes away from the "spacerat" theme.

I'd remove!

good start tho

@Yggdrasil: Thanks!

@Boss 'eadbreaka: Sorry, thought I said, they're from Maxmini.com, they're called 'm-guns'

@Fifty: Thanks! Yeah, I just ordered a Doomwheel.... but I have other plans for it
Love your blog, definitely subscribed!

@Santobell: Cool, thanks for the suggestion! I'll see how they look with some paint on them, but if they still look too human, I'll trim them down

@Tortured-Robot: Thanks! Like I already said, the shields stay! I feel like they fit the scavenger theme, the cowardly nature of the ratmen, and provide the 4+ save that Kabalite Warriors have!
And more than that, I like them! Heh, no better reason than that...

Unfortunately, I'm out of guns... I wanted to see how they looked before I ordered enough for all of my clanrats!
However, I should have a Doomwheel and some more guns arriving any day now...
For now, I'll see about consolidating some of my background information and conversion ideas, and see if I can get them up tonight!
Thank you everyone for your comments and CC!

Well done! I am planning a Skaven c/a Dark Eldar force for sometime late next year, but will be focussing it as a Wych Cult, as I already have my 3rd edition DE army with a Kabalite theme.

Amarie's Vertigo Tribe: 1500 points W:5 L:5 D:0

Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry!!!
I'm terribly sorry for simply starting this Plog and vanishing! However, I was forced to take a medical leave from modeling:

And this is how they look after all this time... had a wonderful accident on my scooter and messed up my hands pretty bad... as you can imagine, it made it pretty hard to hold a craft knife!
In this time, I have mananged, however toget a litle bit done...

-Assemble 7 more warriors (would have done more but I ran out of bases )
-Re-equip my Archon
-Make him the first of his retinue (see below)
-Assemble my Haemonculus and a second 'Grotesque' (rat ogre)
as well as...
*drumroll...*
-WIN TWO 500PT GAMES WITH THEM!!!

For me, the last was the most exciting, as these were my second and third games in... what... three years? I was very proud I wish I could put together a Battle Report for you guys, but still suffering from a dearth of camera... Next time I promise! And to make up for it, I'll throw up my list at the end of this post!

As for the little modeling I did, here's a shot of my HQ:

From right to left, they're my Lhamaean, my 'Archon', and my Master Moulder, aka Haemonculus!

And here's a little close up of the Lhamaean (sorry for the blur):

Other than that, not much new, I decided that I'm going to keep the shields on the warriors, but get rid of the wood grain... as soon as I find out where to purchase Miliput (sp?), also, if there's anyone with scratch-building vehicle experience, would you mind if I PM-ed you a couple of questions? I'm nervous about starting on my Raider equivalent...

And last but not least, my list! I know it's not competitive in any way, but it was made from what I had assembled!!

Archon- 60pts
Lhamaean- 10pts
Agonizer- 20pts
Shadow Field- 30pts

Haemonculus- 50pts
Agonizer- 20
Vexator Helm- 10

3 Grotesques 105pts

10 Warriors- 90pts
Dark Lance- 25

7 Warriors- 63pts
Blaster- 15

TOTAL: 498pts!
(The Haemonculus begins the battle with the Grotesques)

No no no no no depths!! I have a little progress!! What are the odds I would pick today to update...

Ahem, like I was saying... small progress!! Money has made working on this project quite difficult... as has a ridiculous course load Which is incredibly frustrating as I have nearl every unit in the army planned out, down to the conversions and the fluff, but as of yet, it's stuck inside my head!

But, onto the small update! I had a couple of games and got absolutely slaughtered... partially my fault, partially becuse in both games an entire squad was decimated by a SAG! I thought those things were supposed to be unreliable! But one suggestion of my opponent was that I get sme Raiders converted up fast, because DE are more difficult (than they already are!) to play without them! So... I present to you... the bones of a Raider!
[Edit: sorr for the HUGE pictures, Dakka was being difficult, so these are Photobucket... I'll switch to Dakka as soon as I can get them to upload!]

That round circle is a Warpstone Furnace Generator, and will be receiving much much more detailing!

The wings will be attached to the center piece so that they fall approximately between the prongs of the weapon on the front (counts as a Dark Lance). I took a lot of inspirations as well as design ascetics from the Fantasy Skaven war machines... Skaven don't think in squares like other races, they think in triangles and circles! I tried to incorporate that some into this...

As I said, this is still very bare bones! It needs a ton more fun details, lots of cables lots of spikes and hooks and bells! Also, I'm still looking for suitable engines, thinking something like the Thunderhawk's, but scaled down obviously! They'll be suspended beneath the wings with further triangles, and attached with a multitude of tubes and wiring! Also the pilot will be situated on the shorter wing

So... tell me what you think!!
