Hey,

First of all, this is my first Battlereport, so I hope you will enjoy it. Any advice, tips, tricks are welcome!
The pictures aren't great. I noticed at home that my camera got wet.
Also, the next time, I'll try to make one picture of the entire field and to make a clear field, without Cola scattering around.
Enjoy!

Deployment and mission

We played victory points and both deployed up to 12’’ from our side. I got the first turn. I placed the CCS in cover and my HWS in the corners. The blob squads were in the middle. The Rough Riders were behind them and behind the Rough Riders was the PCS.

My opponent deployed his Drones in front of his Firewarriors to serve as cover and his Hammerheads in the corners. The Piranha was left out of cover.

This was my second game against Tau. The first time I lost since the Tau kept out of my firing range. Besides that, my first opponent had no models at all, so I didn’t know what was what or who was who. Still, I didn’t know exactly what to do. They are bad in close combat so I wanted to bring the fight to them… Everything would run forward.
I got the first turn and the field looked like this.

Sir, Kapit’an Samuel the Short reporting after fighting against hostile Xenos.

I had fought against those Tau before. Back then I was just a sergeant. That time we lost because the Tau managed to kill us in an intensive fire fight. This time, I wanted to remove the shame that has fallen upon our regiment. I decided to engage those Xenos in close combat. I gave my men only one order… CHARGE!

Turn 1

The majority of my army moved and ran forward. The PCS and RR kept behind the blob squads. I tried to stick to cover. During shooting, one of my AC teams killed 3 Firewarriors while the other AC team failed to penetrate the Hammerhead. My CCS destroyed the Piranha and the MoO scattered on 3 Gun drones. The last Gun drone fails his Ld-check and flees.

The Tau Hammerhead appeared form behind cover and fired at my CCS, giving the company commander a wound. A large part of my army was still out of range. However blob 2 suffered 8 casualties due firing from the Hammerhead, Firewarriors and some drones.

Almost immediately I was reminded of my own mortality, when I was shot in my arm, just a flesh wound. I forgot my own safety, because I congratulated Sparky for destroying that skimmer as well as several gun drones. The last gun drone fled in fear! This was a good sign for the battle ahead. The enemy opened fire at us, but our casualties were light.

Turn 2

The blobs, RR’s and PCS’s moved forward, hugging as many cover as possible. The CCS and the HWS fail to hurt the Hammerhead. The other HWS destroys a Shield drone.

The Tau player moved forward a bit with some of his troops and moved his XV8 away. After that he fired his Hammerhead at RR 2, killing one Rough Rider and someone in Blob 2. Shield drones cause 8 more casualties. The Commissar ensures the morale. The other blob suffers 5 casualties.

I ordered every squad forward, while I told Toland to keep waving the Regimental Standard. That would ensure morale. I told my own squad to keep firing on that large vehicle.

Turn 3

I moved more soldiers forward, having the soldiers sprinting across the field, angry Platoon Commanders encouraging them to do a little bit more. The CCS manages to destroy a weapon on the Hammerhead. Blob 1 sweeps over a group of Firewarriors. RR 2 kills 3 fire warriors and hides in a building. Blob 2 destroys 6 Shield drones. The last Shield drone doesn’t flee.

The Tau player fires at Blob 1, reducing it to 10 soldiers. A group of fire warriors fires at Rough Rider squad 1, killing 2. Upon that, the group flees. The Shas’el fires at the Rough riders, killing one. The hammerhead fails to kill any RR. Blob 2 suffers heavy casualties from the XV8.

I congratulated my squad when they blew off a railgun from the Hammerhead. One platoon managed to slaughter a group of Firewarriors in close combat. Armed with knives, scythes or chainswords they charged forward! However it was horrible to see them die after the fight. The enemy had expected this, lured my brave soldiers into this trap. They fired at my first platoon killing a lot of themt. Things suddenly became very ugly. My men were trapped in the open, being fired at form all sides! It felt horrible to see these fine lads die. I still hope that the Emperor gives them the rest they deserve. My second platoon assaulted some robots and 6 went down before they even could do anything!

Turn 4

Marba arrives and doesn’t kill herself! Instead she kills 5 Firewarriors, the remaining 3 get their LD-check. However, she still is killed when the MoO scatters and kills her. The Rough Riders regroup and then turn around, charging a group of Firewarriors, whipping them all out. PCS 2 hugs more cover. Blob 1 fires it’s melta’s at the XV8, killing one and then assaulting them, kill one mre. Still locked in close combat. However, the XV8 kills a guardman. Blob 2 hit the poor Gun Drone and move behind cover.
RR 2 assaults the Hammerhead, causing a Vehicle shaken.

The Tau player fires at Blob 1 with the Hammerhead, killing 2. The Firewarriors kill a meltagunners from the platoon command squad. The other Hammerhead kills RR 2 while the Shas’el kills RR 1. The guard kill the XV8 and consolidate.

Then Marba appeared. This girl doesn’t have all her marbles, you know. So she comes and throws her demolition charge. Several fire warriors were blown into the air. It was great to see something like this. The next instant, Marba was gone. A large artillery shell had blown up the place where she had been. I was about to strangle the life out of Sparky, since he had sent out the wrong coordinates. My men expected me to lead them, not to kill them. I ordered my first platoon forward, to attack those jet troopers. Of course those blueberries didn’t know what to do. One unfortunate guardsman stumbled and broke his neck…

Turn 5

Blob 1 and PCS 1 close in for the kill. The CCS and the HWS still fail to wound anything… The survivors from blob 1 destroy the hammerhead while PCS 1 kills 1 Fire warrior. Blob 2 assaults the Shas’el and destroy 2 Gun drones. PCS 2 just tags along…

The Tau player fires with his remaining Fire warriors at blob 1, killing 2, leaving just the commissar alive. Our dear miss-commissar still hold on to her believe and gets her LD-check.
The Hammerhead kills 4 of my soldiers from PCS 2, only a meltagunners survives, who gets his LD-check. In close combat, the Shas’el is killed by angry Guardsmen. The Guard consolidates and goes after the last vehicle.

I ordered my men to surround the Xenos, while cursing at my own squad for failing to destroy the vehicle. Luckily, Batavira can still produce brave soldiers, my second platoon killed the commander of the enemy in close combat…

The results

After we had killed their commander, the Tau forces started to retreat… I barely had any troops left, so I didn’t go after them. It was more important that I managed to hold this position.
I’m glad we won, but our losses were quite severe. I lost almost all my infantry…
May the Emperor smile on you.

Captain Sammy Short, 197th Bataviran.

The game ended at turn 5. My opponent had 1 Hammerhead left and 3 Fire warriors. I still had my CCS, two HWS, my two platoon squads and my two blob squads. So in the end, the Imperial Guard won.
I enjoyed this game pretty much. I was surprised by the amount of LD-checks I saved without having to kill my own sergeants. The standard and commissars proved to be vital.
Although the firing at the Hammerheads was quite useless, I could have used those Autocannons better to engage different targets.

Yeah, this is pretty much how it's done of blobs v. tau. You take horrible casualties getting up to his stuff, but you only need a small fraction of your forces alive to just totally wipe him out.

I'm a little curious why you played a VP game, though. 5th ed isn't designed for that.

There is a shop in our hometown where they only play VP, so when we play there we play VP, and it reminds me of the good old 4th edition times when i started.

I didn't write the DE vs IG or the Orks vs IG battlereport because:

A: The pictures are bad
B: The table is stupid, it was put in such a way that you cannot even understand what everything is.
C: I didn't write about turn 4 or 5, sp I don't know what happened there
D: Because now I decided to stop being a wuss and finally write one.
(E: My opponent wasn't a monkey and didn't tailor his list to anti-foot guard )
F: Because I now know how to write one faster and better.

You do realize that it is *your* game on that table and that the shop's "House Rules" are irrelevant, until you ask the Red Shirt for a ruling and even then, you can ignore him and argue some more or dice off.

So, bring your own objectives, and get to know those other two missions!

Well, to be honest, I don't care what kind of game I play, as long as I play a game.
I can only play around 10 games per year, so by the time I finally can play a game, I'm happy with what comes.

Besides the mission, something really made me think this was a game from the 4th edition. Perhaps it was because of that classic-looking tau army and rough riders. I really enjoyed it!

It really wasn't necessary to call me a monkey you know, besides i didn't tailor my list to be anti Foot Guard, i just made an all-comers list.

Hey, nice job on your starting Bat-Rep.
A few Things though:
-The things missing on the Tau Commander should be a HW Multitracker and the other should be a HW Drone Controller.
-The Gun Drones and FW should have Pulse Rifles if they are firing at you when you are out of range, though I could be wrong.
-Minor qualm with the layout of the army lists, if you sectioned them into HQ, Elites, Troops, FA, HS then it would be much easier to read the lists, currently they are mixed up; for example, Gun Drone squads appear three times in the Tau army list with other unit listings between each one; needs more structure. Overall good though: readable, concise, with the unit information that helps us to follow the game.
-At one point you started calling Gun Drones, Shield Drones.

Overall a fair Bat-Rep, I hope you continue to make them!

I just wrote down what the Tau player had as a list, not minding about Fast, Heavy and such.
