So, With the mass amounts of GW minis I have, I would like to "branch out" in the miniatures gaming world, and possibly get in to Infinity. I came across this game by accident really. I was looking for sniper rifle wielding models with facial coverings to fit with the theme of my Guard army, and discovered a rather wide array of minis from this game (i bought 4 different ones for my guardsmen)

Long story short, I was talking with a buddy, who is going to look into the rules as well and we may try the game out....

Some questions (aside from factions, because I did a search but did not want to thread-necro):

What sort of terrain is "necessary" for the game, and could I use most of my GW made terrain (i have several buildings from the Imperial sector box made up, and some barbed wire runs, small pieces like that)??

What is the "normal" cost of all the necessary equipment to have my own, decent sized force?? (dice, minis, full rule books, etc.)

And what is the usual learning curve of the game, as in, how long would a first game take, and how intuitive is the game compared to 40k or WHFB??

Haha you definately picked the perfect time to look into this. This week only they are running a 50% off entire armies sale as a massive push for promoting the game. Check out this thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/354766.page

To answer your questions:
- Terrain can be anything from a LOT of GW style terrain to simple paper terrain. The system does work great with more terrain the better, but don't let it intimidate you. Simple box terrain, flat wall works great and it sometimes even preferred to complex terrain. If you even did paper/plastically wall terrain to simulate an indoors battle it would work superbly.

- All you have to by is like 1-5 D20s (50 cents around here), and at least 100 pts worth of models. The starters in the link about get you knee deep in the game with a mind blowing 250-300 pts for like 60 bucks.

- The game is incredibly balance, very very few rules loopholes/errors, and it can be as simple as duct in and out of cover exchanging gunfire to having ninjas decloaking behind you with a shotgun. Besat of War did a watered down packet of the rules to make things easier for new players... which I also linked in the thread above. When you are new start out at like 100-150 pt games, when you get to the 250-300 it starts to have nots of rules and lots of AROs if you aren't hiding well.
