Here are a few minis that I painted for a client a little while ago. The color schemes are based largely on historical references.
Anyway, here are the minis:

Love those colours on the vostroyans, except the bright hats are a bit much. I think you'd be better off with a brown-er shade, or just black, if that makes any sense.

Steel legions are traditionally painted, vostroyans painted with new good colour scheme. Like it!

I like them, personally I don;t like the red furry hats too much, should've gone for a more earthy tone I think.

I am not a fan of the Vostroyan hats. They seem out of place with the rest of the paint scheme. Having said that I love the colors on the rest of the minis. The more mellow scheme colors are a nice contrast to the brass on the Vostroyans, and even better on the STs.
Would love to see an army of these across the table.

They were painted in P3 colors, and I simply layered up. The starting color was Umbral Umber (a very dark brown). This I highlighted using Traitor Green (a neutral olive color) and then highlighted that by mixing it with a little Menoth White Base (a bone white color).
You could achieve the same color by starting with the traitor green and shading with a wash of dark brown, then highlighting up by mixing it with a little bone white.

Well, both squads are extremely well painted----but my favorite is the Vostroyans palette. It's very nice. What color did you use on the guns if you don't mind?

The brass color on the Vostroyans starts out as Tin Bits, which then gets layered up to P3 Brass Balls.
