A friend and I are looking to start up a skirmish game and we're trying to decide between Malifaux and Infinity (we're both kind of Mordheim'ed out ). Have any of you Dakkaites given both of these a shot? Feel strongly about one or the other and care to tell me why one is better than the other?

Both games have a free pdf of the rules on line now. Read them both and see what you like more.
Personally, I love Malifaux, it's easily the best game I've played in a long time. There are still some growing pains since it's a relatively new game, but overall, the systems is one of the most elegant I've seen.
Keep in mind that it's very strategy/scenario oriented, and lots of a variety of terrain are important to fully enjoy the game. Automatically Appended Next Post: Plus it's cheap, and the models are awesome.
Infinity interested me for awhile, but I felt it was significantly more expensive, and the rules felt a little clunky. Cool fluff and great models though.

Thank you! I find my lack of faith in Dakka search disturbing...

Hahahahaha
My decision was Infinity, but only because of the miniatures.

^ Dangerous move there, Method (not saying anything bad about Infinity)--I did the same with 40k a handful of months back and now that I'm getting into Malifaux I wish I'd looked at the rules of the games I was looking at a little more closely.

Well I read both of the rules and even if I think the rules for infinity are a little bit harder to master (IMHO) I really like the fact that an enemy may react in my turn...
Makes it a whole lot challinging than Igo, Ugo...
But dont get me wrong I almost decided otherwise, its just the models that confinced me and the SciFi setting.

I play both and like them both. I prefer Infinity but I think they're both good.
I have Zoraida, Lilith and Pandora as Malifaux masters, and Haqqislam, CA and Nomads for Infinity.
One plus with Infinity is that the rules and stats are freely available so you can try it out with 40k proxies. If you do that, use LOTS of line of sight blocking terrain and leave out the heavy weapons, TO troops, drop troops and tags for the first few games.
Malifaux rules are available as a pdf too but I hear it's less complete (examples are removed for some reason) compared to Infinity. I think the cards were available in pdf form, i'm unsure of that though. I have limited play time nowadays and I've chosen Infinity for it recently.
This couldn't be more a matter of personal taste though, both games are good so I can't tell you which you'd prefer!

Do you enjoy Ghost in a Shell of similar Sci-Fi Anime? Go with Infinity
Do you enjoy voodoo and happy tree friends? Go with Malfaux

BlueDagger: I'd counter, again, to look at the rules closely and see which ruleset describes the game you'd more like to play.
I know a lot of people in this hobby tell you to go with the "look" you like first, and that's not bad advice, but it's burned me more than one time and I'm realizing now that if a game has solid, fun rules, me liking the models/fluff will follow.

Theres a number of reasons why a person will opt for one game over another; genre, look of the miniatures; rules; fluff; cost etc
I think you maybe need to sit down and decide which of these factors are key determinants for you. Malifaux and Infinity are so different, that individual tastes will play a big part in what people will recommend. Plus, unless people know more about youa nd your likes and dislikes its again difficult to recommend one over the other.
My personal choice was / is Infinity, I like the company, the fluff, the genre, the miniatures and the rules (if I want simple rules I play WH40K, but with simple rules governing something as complex as war, you have to compromise on how accurately the game respresents real combat - simples)
