Rogue Inquisitor with Xenos Bodyguards
|
This was played at Knightfall Games in Beaverton OR. Having been involved in a plot-line narrative of an Apocalypse battle where the Dragons Errant(my chapter) attained Gene-seed and experiment journals from an abandoned Inquisitorial laboratory, they have embarked on a quest to inform their brother Marines about the perfidy enacted by the Inquisition yet they desire to do so in such a way as to not start another Horus style rebellion. Unfortunately, on an isolated, barren world, intent was miss communicated and the meeting became a battle of such ferocity as to leave both companies battered and needing time to mend wounds. Once the Gray Knights were spotted, the Devastator squad of the Dragons Errant immobilized the lead Landraider of the Gray Knights. [/img] Walking behind the GK tanks was a GK Techmarine who would get it back up and running. Other fire that turn did little of anything else. The GK in turn also had a hard time doing damage to the Dragon's Landraiders, but their Storm-Raven did take out one of the Rhinos of the Salamander based Chapter and two marines were wounded in that tactical squad. [/img] End of turn one Nothing conclusive yet learned of the new codex as the 1st turn went to the way the dice rolled and managed to be a little kinder to the GK player. Turn Two Having forgotten to drop the drop-pod and VDread in last turn, the Drop-pod showed up, and it landed close to the Dread Knight! Now the Dread-Knight was close to the Venerable Dreadnought and would walk up to attack after shooting it on the second part of this battle session. The venerable MK I Landraider immobilized and destroyed the opposing black landraider's las-cannon, and in turn it too was immobilized. The Strom-Raven wrecked the Redeemer of the Dragons Errant and the occupants of both vehicles got out, the team with Vulkan Marduk taking fire from the GK from the Storm Raven. They chose not to assault the Terminators in the terrain that was once a proud Landraider.(It survived point blank MM fire due to the Ceramite armor it get's). But the DK and Vene-Dread were going toe-to-toe. But both were still fighting. [/img] Aerial view of the about to ensue 3rd turn carnage [/img] Now the new rules were coming into play, the ceramite armor of the Storm Raven made sure the meltas could not get the second die to penetrate the hull. Second thing that came into play was the Psy-bolt ammo, S5 bolters can punish even hardy SM opponents! That and they all have Power-weapons, but that came into effect on Turn three. End of Turn Two (more to come.)

Just to let you know, but passengers need to disembark 1st from the vehicle and then it becomes a wreck afterwards. Thus, it was illegal for the terminators to disembark on top of the land raider because it wasn't a wreck yet.

Well, had my opponent objected, maybe I would have had them get alongside or in front, but the roll was made to hit it, then he made the roll that made it destroyed because a 5+1 became a six, but we had no pieces at hand to make a big enough crater, which forces them to be where they were. My mistake for not being clear enough.

Yeah, those rules for AP1 really do change the effects of vehicle damage a lot.

My friend's half finished Storm Raven gunship! He has commissioned me to fix what has been done and to fully model it and paint it for him. I have also done work on his Dread-Knight.

Turn three
So the Black GK Landraider was immobilized and then fixed in the second round, the Devastator team immobilized the GK Redeemer in white. The enemy was close enough now to pour fire from both of their Landraiders into the old MKI and cripple it, making it into a smoking ruin and the Terminators inside were forced to come out.
[/img]
Other highlights were the attack by Vulkan and his party on the GK GM and the squad he had dropped from the Storm Raven in . With a mighty gout of flame from his gauntlet, Vulkan removed six enemy with one blast. The DK and Vene dread continued their hammering each other. Vulkan and his team then swept in with the assault troopers alongside them and swept the GK away, but the GM of the GK also made sure that Vulkan went down as well.
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
The Storm Raven swept behind the Landraider Redeemer ruin to fire upon the assault team, Gunning several of them down. The remaining six ready to charge once they could.
[/img]
Captain Hephaestus and his team did not get a chance to make much of a move but ran instead to disperse somewhat. The GK Redeemer was still immobilized.
[/img]
Turn three ends.
Dread Knight is a real beast! with out a DCCW, the Venedread was powerless to make any blow stick.
The Strom Raven was a powerful transport where armor 12 all around and Ceramite armor rules made it nigh but immune to the Multi-
meltas.
Turn four
More shots from the devastators were fired, but little was done other than making the enemy redeemer unable to fire this turn.
[/img]
The Terminatoirs under the chaplain moved towards the enemy fighting the dreadnought, and they were attacked by the razorback with more GK in it. The assault troopers went to attach meltabombs to the Storm raven, but managed a single shaking of it.
[/img]
Too late to help save the venedread, the mighty DK smashed it down, it would need salvage later, after the battle.
[/img]
Captain Hephaestus and his men weathered the hail of fire the enemy shot at them, only to loose most of the squad to the power weapons of the two GK terminators and their Librarian who had made them stronger.
[/img]
End of turn four
Okay, so Ceramite armor is bad for melta bombs as well. DreadKnight has as many attacks as a Ironclad and they are MC, so if you take the weaker sword or what ever, more potent than a dreadnought!
Psybolt ammo is again painful as GK no0w hit you with about Heavy bolter ammo from stormbolters, and their Hammerhand making S5 can be a real pain as they are always counting as power weapons!

Reds and white. But I will use Boltgun metal as base followed by chain-mail and then Mithril Silver, with a badab black or sepia wash as well .

Oh, first I have to go and take the Storm Raven apart as the person he had slap it together did a bad job and a sub-par job as well, I need to de-bur the sprue nibs he left and re plant the nav lights to where they should go. Some of it I will not be able to fix, and I hate working from such a foundation.

hmmm this sounds nasty...was he too young to assably properly? i am a bit leazy when it comes to work with preassabed minis but when i get my hands on fresh stuff i tend to be pretty perfectionistic about moldlines and such things... a model grews on me when i work with it for a longer time...and also when i work with it longer see removing moldlines then i tend to be a bit better with the mini in painting as i got acustomed to it better and know its creases and folds better and understand how it could be painted...
so it is rather sad that someone slapps a badly maintaned kit together...

No problems. I will make a thread about the projects separate from the others. I still have to finish this batrep, turns 5 and 6 yet to go!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Turn Five
Fire from two tactical squads and the devastators finally got rid of the Storm Raven with missile fire winning the day as they turn it to a smoking hulk. The GK Vene dread was still attached. Capt.Hephaestus held his own, and as the other terminators advanced they were fired upon by the razorback team of GK.
Hephaestus holding the line!
[/img]
Charging towards the DreadKnight, but the Chaplain, already wounded earlier would fall to enemy bolter fire on the way in as they were attacked by their flank!
[/img]
The culprits who took the chaplain out of the fight via shooting.
[/img]
Soon the Dread Knight charged the Terminators, making the remaining dragons errant terminators both locked in combat! the enemy landraider moved up and fired on the devastator squad the remainder fleeing from the withering fire! the GK on the other flank lost their Rhino to the Predator and walked to it, taking fire as they did so. The DreadKnight fell back from the swings of the mighty Thunder Hammers and the enemy Venedread assaulted the last of the assault squad, where the sgt got a melta bomb to take out the mighty warmachine. two of their squad scythed down by fragments of the departed dreadnought(Both results were BOOM!) The other GK terminators assaulted the one tactical squad and fought them to a fallback. The GK Librarian and one terminator fled from the Mighty Hephaestus, who though suffering wounds, was able to take down two of their number with the powerful Dragon Forge Hammer.
[/img]
[/img]
[/img]
End turn 5
Turn 6
All was pretty much locked in now, the The Victory of Hephaestus was to be short lived as the GK fired what they had at him, his mighty frame overwhelmed, he collapsed in a heap. The Terminators that had been with Vulkan were fewer, but they managed to defeat the Dread Knight, the assault squad could not join them as they were already gunned down, and the terminators in turn as they made way for the other objective that had yet to be guarded. The tactical sqd was over run and defeated, and the GK attacked the Predator but only shook it up some what. The Dragons Errant still had two tactical squads defending and holding the objective they started with.
The GK redeemer was still not fixed.
Terminators gunned down!
[/img]
They took one or two with them, but the tactical squad could not stand before so many power-weapons!
[/img]
Capt. Hephaestus removed!
[/img]
The Predator shaken!
[/img]
The objective still in Dragons Errant hands!
[/img]
The battle was brutal, and the Dragons errant were bloodied quite a bit in the fight, but the proof was for the GK codex to see how the changes went. I would say that now I never have to worry about holding back on the GK as they are not so easy to walk all over as they had been in the past.
Storm Raven needs to be killed early in game as it can make a big difference zipping around dropping tanks and unloading marines in the face, as well as a Dreadnought!
Dreadknight, do not send a dreadnought to do a Thunder Hammer squads' job!
Hammerheand and Psybolt ammo, makes a big impact with the +1 to weapon strength.
