I bought it and gave it a quick play, the blocks are a quarter of the size of those in minecraft in relation to the player which makes mining tedious, the npc's regularly just open doors to let mobs in and I can't find any way to kill said npcs.

Yeah, having water reflections and grass that isn't a 2d plane (and an actually reasonable draw distance) is worse in every way. It's on a totally different platform that Notch had absolutely no intention of ever developing on. I don't understand the rage about it. It's about as different from minecraft as one FPS is from the next.

I've been loving this game so far. Took a while to get into, and a lot of deaths (getting ping-ponged through enemies is a bit frustrating), but once you've built the town up a bit and forged some decent items it's awesome.
It has a LOT more scope than Minecraft, in that there are more items to forge, more enemies to fight, NPCs (who do close the doors, in my experience), and even boss battles. Oh yeah, and it has lightsabers and lasers.
With Minecraft, you can just start a new game on a whim and have a base and every item you need within a couple of hours. With Terraria, you'll likely go back to the same save/character because there's so much to progress through until you get the really good stuff.

If you mean it is a reskin with supposedly better graphics then yes, you are right it is just like one modern fps to the next.

Thin to non existent plots that are barely masked rehashes as well. Honestly, people hold minecraft like its a special unique "first of a kind" snowflake.
It's not. It's just as much of a ripoff as the next game.

However minecraft is considerably better than infinimer whereas fortresscraft just has better graphics, though this actually makes it look worse IMO due to the loss of the simple aesthetic of minecraft.

Yeah, it's mostly the platform that differentiates it. The use of xbox avatars is neat and live is much better then minecrafts broswer. That said, I do think minecraft is probably the better game.
