Hi,
I’m a big fan of dawn of war, and sometimes I can get really stuck on parts of a stronghold mission. Then when I have completed it I may really want to discuss that or other competed missions over the web. Then there was dakka! When I started dakka a few months ago, The dawn of war thread was only a veuige idea in my head. But after some playing on dark crusade fighting in necrons stronghold I decided really wanted to start it.
The whole idea of this is if someone (or me!) is stuck on a certain mission they could post it on here then hopefully get a response to their question. I thought because I started this thread I think I will ask the first question: I’m fighting the necrons stronghold on dark crusade and a new secondary objective has appeared saying to destroy a secondary beckon in the top corner of the diamond shaped map and I don’t really know how to reach it how can I reach it? Help would be aprecheated.

Video game section here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/25.page
If you want to talk about the lore involved in said stronghold mission, the background section is fine. But actually asking for advice on how to complete it? THAT belongs in the video game section...
People who post here haven't necessarily played the game anyway, while those that do would probably see the video game section and not necessarily this board.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Necron Mission (definitely my favorite base in Dark Crusade) Is just a matter of following the flashing red blips on the objectives screen. They are not all required but it is much easier to accomplish the mission without mishap if you clear the way as you go. I forget the names of them, but the first should be a obelisky looking thing up the main tunnel from where your base starts. There is a little side clearing off of that tunnel too that I used for more base buildings, since the starting location is so cramped.
Directly above the first target is another one that makes everything invisible (again I forget the names) So bring whatever your army uses to spot. It is up on a little rise.
Then get the relic at the top of the zigurrat center map area. From there.. you can either go south or west as general directions of travel. West is a kind of zig-zaggy shortcut right to the end of the level, but it is much more difficult going this way, because you have to get back out, and everything on the map activates once you plant the bomb.
To the south, all the way back down another long tunnel, there is a graveyard of monoliths still dormant, as well as a lot of energy cores. You want to kill all of this, as when you plant the bomb later, all the monoliths come alive. Kill them off before they ever get a chance to wake up.
now you are far deep in the tunnels and hopefully, have a holding area near the relic. its a bit of a squigge of platforms and passages but you will want to wrok your way up the far left side of the map, finding the tunnel access spots, killing off targets as you go, and there are 2 more obelisks around here too. One of them at the absolute bottom corner of the map has a special power that akes over your vehicles. The other one has a special power that slows your guys down, makes them inactive so you can't give them orders, for a period of time. This second one is a pain because it is located very close to a huge nest of destroyers.
Once you have cleaned your way back up to the top left corner, there will be an active monolith blocking the way into the burial mound room. blow it up. move along. the burial mound looking room is pretty straightforeward huge empty room. Nightbringer shows up. You can't kill him, so keep him occupied in combat with stuff while your commander plants the bomb. Once the bomb is planted... the whole place lights up and you really just have to get the commander out. If you cleaned up as you came in, its not very hard to get him to one of the special transporting tunnels and then bring him back out at the tunnel near your start point. It is also perfectly possible in the time you are given, to navigate all the way back overland assuming nothing tries to stop him on the way out.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

It's been awhile since I played Dark Crusade but just to add to what Guitardian said, if you're playing with IG, the game is ridiculously easy if you build as many Basilisks as you can and then use their Earthshaker Round ability. Use the Long Range Scanner and you can destroy things that would normally be out of reach.
I think you can even nail Nightbringer (or the Necron Lord that turns into Nightbringer in the room) from the room north of it. Use your Scanner to see it and then nail with Earthshaker Rounds. It will turn into Nightbringer but I believe it only lasts for a certain amount of time. Then after it turns back into a Necron Lord, I think you can then kill it.
Storming the Tau stronghold is fairly easy as well as you can kill the Ethereal with the Basilisks across a wide gap.
EDIT: After some thought, I'm not sure if I'm confusing this game with Soulstorm. Either way though, Basilisks can be ridiculously overpowered when using them against the computer. Just make sure you have plenty of bodies in front of them and then proceed to use Earthshaker rounds on anything.

Ive currently destroed the first oblisk thing when you come out of your base deesroyed the dormant monliths (Built a 2nd base there) and have just got given a objective to destroy another obilisk thing up north on the top of the dimand shaped map.Hope this helps.

The Necron one is quite easy actually. You get all the troops you need and want at the beginning straight away. You destroy all the side objectives and move forward bit by bit. Make sure to capture empty tunnels for fast reinforcement to the front when you take casualties.
Once you get to the very end, send in a cheap unit so the Nightbringer lord can rip them to shreds. Once he's done, send in everyone else and kill the lord. Plant the bomb, then evacuate your commander using the tunnels.

LoneLictor wrote:I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.
Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space. |

What I did to complete the necron stronghold while playing with space marines was.I built 2 squads of assault marines took down the first obelisk, then by accident they were running away and found the first abandoned tunnel. I then sent them to where the tunnel ended and found 4 dormant monliths.Once they were destroyed I sent 2 tactical squads, my commander attached to some grey knights, a Chaplin and 2 servitors in rhinos to the first tunnel. This was because my base kept on being under heavy assault and servitors at least would of probably got killed (my honour guard where trying to deal with them and guard my base). The men in the rhinos finally got into the tunnel and came out the other side and succoured a place for a secerendy base (that was in a perfect position and fed the rest of my force and only got attacked once!).I also used that tactic on the chaos stronghold too. I kept on making tag like teams of men from that base that would perform a hit and run assault or try and destroy an obelisk until death. Once all of the obelisks like things were destroyed, I made a huge force up (that was made with intension to defend my commander) to plant the bomb! I had lots of troops with fully upgrade termies ready to deep strike and with my commander attached to some grey knights in a land raider with 2 predators protecting it and all of my tactical squads in rhinos they all easily took down the night bringer in seconds’ commander jumped out with his grey knights (basically being his body guard) planted the bomb got back into the land raider and drove away with the rest of the force. Mission end .Success!
Note: I kept on calling the tower things that could bring back enemies forces, turn your vehicle against you etch, obelisks.
