I have used Simple Green to strip models in the past but it's been a while and I no longer remember how long i should soak the models before or if it made a difference between plastic and metal for how long to soak. I am stripping plastic SM. I searched but didn't find a relevant post, answers or a point to another thread is greatly appreciated!

Depends on how long the paint has been on the models. It could be as short as 12 hours if the paint is pretty fresh, but as long as a week if it's been on for a while.

Let metal models sit over night, or for best results 2 days. The long you let it sit the quicker it all comes out. Sometimes you need to soak them brush them quickly, and resoak to allow all the small really deep portions come out.
For plastic models you need to let them sit for longer than a week, you can apply the same quick brush off plan but always resoak. Plastic is a pain in the butt with SG.

It's been on there for a while. Ranging from 3 months to over a year. I'll probably let it soak for a good 7-8 days then. What is better for Plastic? I have more plastic models to strip and if SG isn't the best way then I would like to make sure I use the best.

I haven't ever needed more than a few days in SG, and I've only stripped plastic with it. From my somewhat limited experience, I'd say it depends more what paint was used than how long it's been on there.
I snagged an old-style Rhino off of Ebay a while back that looked like it hadn't been touched in years. The Citadel paint came of completely within 2 days (2 soaks and 2 toothbrushings under warm running water), but it didn't even touch the black primer. Another model was 90% clean after a single overnight soak.
For your current models, knowing that SG won't harm the plastic, I'd just dump them in, occasionally popping one out to brush at under some running water. Finding out they're ready to scrub a few days earlier than you'd guessed is well worth taking 5 minutes to check one every now and again, not to mention the fact that anything that comes off during the test-scrub exposes more paint for the SG to start working on.

Has anyone ever tried the auto degreaser? I heard it is extraordinarily powerful but can be dangerous to work with.
The SG removal on my SM is coming along well. I took the advice of many of you and did a brushing then soaked them again.

I soak them about 72 hrs to make sure the paint is nice and loose. Then I take an old toothbrush and scrub them clean. I also dont dilute my SG.

What works really well is if you go and get a 9 dollar battery operated toothbrush. This makes it much faster to get the paint off after you soak them. It does fling paint all over though so make sure your in a good area to do it.

Don't use automotive degreaser on your minis. EVER. It is highly toxic and should only be used by trained and qualified people.
As for metal minis. Use acetone. It's fast and easy.
Plastic minis, simple green or fairy power spray soaked as described above.
