Canoness Dianus open her eyes and saw a world shaded in gray. She felt weightless as if floating in space. All around her time sped forward, cycling through night and day. Sisters and crewmen jostle past her at lighting speed, completely ignoring her as if she were a ghost.

"What is this heresy?" Dianus angrily demands.

"This is a glimpse of the future moving forward," replies a calm voice next to her.

Startled, Dianus instinctively reach for her Bolt Pistol only to find her holster not there. Instead, she was wearing a loose robe normally worn when she was off duty. She turns and finds Farseer Ava standing next to her. The Farseer too was wearing new attire, different than what she had worn a few seconds ago back in the interrogation chamber.

“Do not be alarm monkeigh. While we are here, no harm will come either one of us.”

“What makes you so sure?”

“Because if I could control events from this dimension, then there would be no need to fight you monkeighs face to face,” the Farseer reply in an annoyed tone. “This world is a reflection of events yet to come. Now sit back and watch your doom that I foretold.”

.....

This is a 1500 points game between my Sisters of Battle versus fellow dakkalite BigGreen’s Necrons.

Sorry for my long hiatus. I've just finished my finals and begin my summer vacation.

I normally post my battle reports in a slideshow format. It’s easier to narrate turn-by-turn action with text paired with pictures. However, in this game I was in a rush. As a result, I didn’t take enough pictures to piece together a smooth slideshow. Hence for this battle report, I will revert back to the popular embedded pictures and text format widely seen on this forum.

Setting:

The table was setup to look like a small dessert outpost with scattered craters and forests. We rolled for mission and got Capture and Control. For deployment, we got Dawn of War.

Army List:

Necrons:
Necron Lord, Ressurection Orb, Solar Pulse, Warscythe
Nightbringer
-3 Wraiths
-5 Destroyers
-10 Necron Warriors
-10 Necron Warriors
-Monolith

Sisters of Battle (Order of Faith):

-Canoness, Book of St. Lucius, Eviscerator
-5 Celestian Retinue, 2 Meltaguns, Immolator, Extra Armour, Smoke
-5 Celestian Retinue, 2 Meltaguns, Immolator, Extra Armour, Smoke
-6 Seraphims, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Eviscerator, 2 Flamers
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Book of St. Lucius, Brazier of Holy Fire, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Extra Armour, Smoke
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Book of St. Lucius, Brazier of Holy Fire, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Extra Armour, Smoke
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Book of St. Lucius, Brazier of Holy Fire, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Extra Armour, Smoke
-Exorcist
-Exorcist

Deployment:

I win the roll off to go first. I place my objective in near my back-middle board edge.

BigGreen places his objective on top of the Skyshield Landing Pad.

BigGreen deploys 2 Necron Warrior squads and the Nightbringer. I deploy nothing.

Turn 1 (Sisters of Battle):

Sisters move forward with lead vehicles screening the other.

Exorcists try to see the Nightbringer through the fog of war, but fails.

Turn 1 (Necrons):

Wraiths turbo boost towards the middle. Night Bringer eerily floats forward. Monolith hovers in from the back edge. Necron Lord unites with the Necron Warriors in the forest. Destroyers zoom in from the top left corner.

Necron Lord uses his Solar Pulse. A blinding flash illuminates the world, removing night fighting.

Destroys fires their Gauss Cannon at the Exorcist and disintegrates its pipe organ.

Night Bringer unleashes its Lightning Arc at the Canoness’s Immolator, sizzling the gunner and its TL-Heavy Flamer turret.

Turn 2 (Sisters of Battle):

Vehicles move to intercept the Nightbringer. Red Battle Sister Rhino fails its dangerous terrain test and becomes immobilized.

Battle Sisters open up with a hail of bolter fire, turning the Wraiths into metal scrap. Combined shooting from Celestians’ Meltaguns knocks 2 wounds off the Nightbringer

Nightbringer uses Etheric Tempest. He raises his staff and slams it into the ground, sending a shockwave around him. Sisters are blown back a few inches.

Turn 2 (Necrons):

Nightbringer and Monolith shuffles forward. Destroyers zoom toward the Sister’s left flank.

Necron Warriors immobilizes Celestian Immolator with their Gauss flayer. Monolith’s Particle blasts 2 Battle Sisters to bits. Second Necron Warriors picks off a 3rd Battle Sister. Destroyer’s Gauss cannons pummel Canoness’ Immolator into wreckage.

Nightbringer assaults Canoness and her retinue.

He uses Gaze of Death. Dark fire lights up in his eyes, draining life on whomever he sets eyes on. A large blast kills 4 Celestians from two squads.

Turn 3 (Sisters of Battle):

Sisters advance. Battle Sisters secures home objective. Lead white Rhino fails its dangerous terrain test. That’s the second dangerous terrain test I’ve failed this game.

Seraphims guns down 3 Necron Warriors on the landing pad. Exorcist flattens 1 Destroyer.

Nightbringer finish off the Canoness and her retinue. He consolidates towards the Sister’s objective.

Turn 3 (Necrons):

None of the fallen Necrons stands back up. No movement except for the Nightbringer getting closer to the Battle Sisters.

Seraphims summons protection from the Sprit of the Martyr. Combined shooting from Necron Warriors and Monolith Particle Whip reduces the Seraphims to 2 girls.

Destroyers pepper the Exorcist’s hull, shaking its crew. Nightbringer hurls a lightning arc into a Battle Sister, reducing her to ash.

Nightbringer assault Battle Sisters. Once gain he uses Gaze of Death, sucking the life out of four Battle Sisters.

Turn 4 (Sisters of Battle):

Weaponless Exorcist attempts to ram the Monolith, but fails its dangerous terrain test. That’s the 3rd dangerous terrain test I’ve failed!

Shaken Exorcist speeds away from the Nightbringer. Battle Sisters disembark, but rolls poorly for their difficult terrain test. Second Battle Sister’s Rhino dashes towards the Necron’s objective. Seraphims land right next to the Necron Warriors.

Celestians blasts a Destroyer.

Fortunately the two Seraphims left standing are armed with Flamers. They incinerate 4 Necron Warriors.

Seraphims follow up in assault. 2 Necron Warriors and 1 Seraphim dies.

Battle Sisters summons protection from the Spirit of the Martyr. Nightbringer slashes 2 Battle Sisters.

Turn 4 (Necrons):

All but one Necron fails to stand up. Destroyers and Warriors closes in on the mobile Rhino.

Destroyers blows up the Rhino. 3 Battle Sisters and 1 Necron Warrior perish in the firey explosion. Monolith vaporizes 3 Battle Sisters near the middle.

Necron Lord and Warriors assaults the Battle Sisters. 3 Battle Sisters are butchered in melee. In return, Battle Sister dislocates 1 Necron Warrior and passes moral test.

In one swing, the Nightbringer finishes off remaining Battle Sisters.

Blows are exchange, but nothing happens between the Warriors versus the Seraphim. At end of assault, Seraphim hit and run out of combat.

Turn 5 (Sisters of Battle):

Battle Sisters on foot blitz toward the Necron’s objective.

Celestians burns 2 Destroyers into molten slag.

Seraphim and Exorcist kills 2 Necron Warriors.

Celestians assaults Destroyers. One Celestian dies.

Necron Lord and Warriors finishes off Battle Sisters in assault.

Turn 5 (Necrons):

Both Destroyers reboot themselves and stand back up.

A couple Necron Warriors stand back up.

Necron Lord and Warriors phase out and reemerges from the Monolith’s portal, reclaiming their objective.

Monolith kills the last Seraphim.

Destroyers kill a Celestian.

We rolled to see if the game continues, and it does!

Turn 6 (Sisters of Battle):

Battle Sisters moves toward the landing pad.

Exorcist scores another wound on the Nightbringer.

Battle Sisters assault the Monolith and contests the objective.

Destroyers pummel the last Celestian to death.

Turn 6 (Necrons):

Monolith fails its Dangerous Terrain test and becomes immobilize.

Necron Lord leaves his squad.

Combined shooting between Monolith, Destroyers, and Necron Warriors kill all but one Battle Sister.

Necron Lord assault and finish her off.

At this point I concede.

Game Result:

Spoiler:
Victory for Necrons!

Afterthoughts:

Spoiler:
Throughout the game, I was plague with bad luck having failed 3 dangerous terrain tests. Despite having very little anti-tank shooting, BigGreen manage to disable many of my vehicles. In hind sight, I should have fielded an extra Exorcist and deploy my objective in a corner. I also should have focused on phasing out the Necrons rather then go after BigGreen's objective.

The Nightbringer played a pivotal role. He was a huge threat that couldn't be ignored. There isn't much in my army that can harm it other than Meltaguns, Exorcists, and Eviscerators. BigGreen did the right thing in deploying it in the middle of the table. Wish I had known about the Str4 large blast ignore armor saves or else I would have used Spirit the Martyr first and let it do its normal c-tan attacks. Using the monolith's power to summon Necron Warriors and the Lord back on his objective caught me by surprise. Well played BigGreen. I look forward to a rematch.

.....

Dianus gasp in horror as she watch her future self get pierced by the black robe figure. What she saw next would haunt her for life. The ethereal being opened its mouth, revealing a pitch-black bottomless abyss. The souls of her future self along with her fellow Celestians were sucked into the black hole. All that remain were limp bodies, void of life.

“In the not so distant future, one of your allies foolishly awakens a Necron tomb. They will request reinforcements. You will answer their call,” explains Ava.

“Wha what is that thing?!” stammers Dianus, pointing at the dark reaper.

“That is Kaelis Ra, also known as the Nightbringer. He is death incarnate and a living god.”

“Impossible,” replies Dianus. “There is only one god and that’s the Holy Emperor.”

Ava chuckles. “You monkeighs’ perception of history is miniscule. There exists a threat that has existed since ancient times. We Eldar wage a never-ending war against.”

“If what you have revealed is true, then how do I defeat this Nightbringer?”

“Not you nor I can defeat it. At best, we can prevent his summoning.”

“And save me from my fated doom,” adds Dianus.

All and all I felt like it was a good game. I got really lucky on a lot of my rolls and you un-lucky. I feel like a lot of the time people underestimate Necrons because their book is just not very strong right now. However with some luck and a somewhat experienced general behind them they can do well against some armys. It was a lot of fun!

I've only played two games vs Necrons with my Sisters and won one and drew the other.

You had SO MUCH bad luck I even winced because if you had your mobility intact (I.E not immobilising everything!!!) I think you could have just given the Nightbringer the run around and focused on the Warriors.

It's one thing I had to really focus on when I played against them. I used three Exorcists and just focused everything at his squads in the open. Even with res orb he can't protect everything and things will die quickly to Exorcist rockets.

Brilliant report as usual and can't wait for the next one!

Going to use your format for my bat-reps in the future if that's ok?

What a good report. The game seemed really fun. May have been completely different if you had passed dangerous terrain rolls. Guess the dice gods were just against you. I thought sisters were going to win untill the last few turns.

I have one thing to mention though. The monolith doesn't need to test for dangerous terrain as it hovers over it. How come it failed its terrain test?

The Monolith is a skimmer, if a skimmer ends its move in difficult terrain, they treat it as dangerous and need to test.

I was wondering why you were using SotM against the nightbringer, but I forgot about that large blast. That guy is a wrecking machine.

I understand that but when i looked at the report it made it look like the monolith just passed through the terrain and ended its move in the open.

What, sisters lost to necrons?!? SabrX, you're never going to hear the last of that one.

Kidding aside, one of the most frustrating losses is one where you beat yourself. I just hate it when I do stuff like immobilise 3 tanks on terrain or perils 4-5 times with my grey knights. But this report just goes to show that any army can beat any other army at any time.

Good game. I've never faced Necrons with my Sisters, but I'm looking forward to it. Was that conversation from a book, or something you made up?

Wow, a lot of feedback over night!

It's great to see fellow Sister players sharing their experience.

Look forward to a summer filled battle report. I have 2 tournament battle reports, sitting on the back burner.

Yeah, despite being an old codex, the Necrons are tough as nails. They are the last army that ignore invulnerable saves, possess the toughest vehicle (in normal games), and one of the toughest monstrous creatures.

One of these days, we should have a rematch.

BigGreen was smart to leave his Necrons in cover and disabling one of my Exorcists early on.

Feel free to use this format for your bat-reps. It's widely use in this forum.

The best I could do towards the end was contest his objective. There's noway I can kill the monolith unless I rolled a 6 to glance, which is down graded to a 5. Had I not failed all those terrain tests, I think the game would have ended in a draw.

Yeah, it's like a double whammy. Either they all get hit by a Str4 ignore armor save large blast or they take it and get picked off by the c-tan ignore invulnerable save attacks.

When the Nightbringer assaulted the Battle Sisters, I was really desperate and attempted Hand of the Emperor. However I failed that test. Just for kicks, I rolled the dice to see what would have happened if it gone off and got three 6's!

Despite his huge points cost, I feel the Nightbringer is worth it.

Yeah, it's like sanctuary 101 happening all over again. I believe this game occurred right after I lost playing your Tyranids vs. your Grey Knights. It stings losing two games in a row. Oh well. Luck comes around and goes around. This Lady Luck's balancing act from all those games I scathe by passing all my dangerous terrain tests.

I wrote all the dialogue myself. My stories are generally over the top and far from canon. Nevertheless, it's entertaining to give battle reports a back story as to why army 'x' would fight army 'y'.

I think conentional wisdom for a Monolith though is correct. You just have to ignore it completely.

This is a much different Necron list than I played against before, but I found the biggest weakness for Necrons was their relatively short range. In spite of being a monster in CC I wonder if you could have ignored him (nightbringer) and deployed as a refused flank so he would have to chase your vehicles with his (relatively) slow movement.

I was going to suggest the same but those damn immobilised results really put the pain on Sab. Sisters NEED their transports to be operation until at least getting close by.

Yeah, Sisters are at their best when they are within close range shooting in full force. Crippled mobility doesn't end well.

I couldn't ignore the Nightbringer. Not when it's Dawn of War and deploying in the middle of the table. Although I did ignore the Monolith.

The last two games against 'Crons I did exactly the same, ignored the Monolith until I really couldn't any longer.

Then I managed to immobilise it and then just stayed away from it :-D

My normal priority for 'Crons is

1) Destroyers - they are the bane of my two armies. Tau and Sisters. 3+ to hit, 2+ to kill. They also move 12" and can fire 36". I hate them. HATE THEM.

2) Other fast stuff - Wraiths etc

3) Warriors - maybe the best objective holders in the game? I struggle against Warriors with Tau but with Sisters I've done a bit better when using Canoness/Seraphim squad with Eviserators in CC though.

SoB player needs to learn to consolidate forces, Ive read a few batreps and every game he disembarks one at a time to get slaughtered.

If your going with an infantry heavy list, Rush something and have squads support eachother. You have 6 Squads, 3 are squads of 10, and honestly the entire game none of your squads of 10 did anything. You could have boltered down anything with 30 bolters rapid fireing, you could have killed nightbringer in a turn.

Transports are cool, but when they allow your troops to do absolutly nothing time and time again Im not sure why you bring full squads of 10 when they arnt supported by anything.

The nerons deployment was terrible rofl, he had 2 squads of warriors in the open. Get Out, Blow up nightbringer with everything you have. Get back in, drive up , shoot / assult the necron squads in the open? Like what were you doing that game. You probably could have focus fired destroyers with anything and killed them off I dont believe they were in range of a res orb.

Thanks for reading my btrp's, but in most of my past games that I've posted, I disembark a good portion of my forces and go all out. I never intentionally offer my forces in piece meals to my opponents unless I'm force to. The only time where I offer one unit at a time is when I use the bait and switch tactic, which is super effective. Perhaps you've been reading other SoB players battle reports? This game was different than my usual because my vehicles kept getting immobilize, which results in some squads lagging behind others.

Also, as BigGreen pointed out, T4 can't hurt T8.

@warpcrafter:

Actually the Farseer was revealing her future premonition to the Canoness. It has happened yet, but it could unless they do something to stop it. Sorry if my fluff was confusing. It's really hard to describe something abstract in words.
