So Infinity looks like a cool, affordable alternative to 40k, and the Haqqislam have me hooked. I'm a philosphy student from a muslim family, and guess what the Haqqislam are philospher, assassin, muslims (scary how they managed to combine so many things very relevant to me). Anyway enough about that, I have a few questions which I would greatly appreciate if you guys took the time to answer.

1. The Online Store sells two books, a 2nd edition rulebook, and a book called Human Sphere. Do these contain anything different from the free downloads, besides fluff? I'm interested in a sectorial army (Hassassin) so are the downloads good enough for that?

2. What's the average size of armies in this game? like 5-10ish? I assume a starter set is enough for a game. Also the online store is all in euros, but if I'm not mistaken a blister pack of one model is 15-ish dollars USD?

3. Having seen pics of terrain the amount of stuff on the field is staggerring. Do you need to buy wargaming terrian to enjoy the game or will books, shoeboxes, and the like suffice for now?

4. As for painting and assembling is it no different from Citadel metal models? Is it ye olde, prime 'n' paint? I have a bunch of Citadel paints which should work right? And files and superglue are more or less all you need for assembly I imagine.

5. I know for 40k you need some extra stuff besides dice, like the templates. Is there a similar set of peripheral items that are need to play the game?

Sorry of any of these are stupid questions, I just want to make sure I don't do something horrible. Also if you guys have any tips or important information about the game in general, or the Haqqislam I'm all ears. Thanks for your time guys.

@Asimo77:

1) I think the online rules will be good enough for now, I however want the Fluff and Art and will be buying both books soon. I also want to read the various armies fluff before I decide which faction to go for.

2) No more than 10 model. When you go beyond 10 models, then you have to add another battalion or group of models. Neither group can use the other groups order points to activate to do things.

3) Yes make shift terrain will work. There are some good paper terrain sites which seem to be rather inexpensive.

4) Yup, prime and paint as per metal models. Even the larger TAGs are metal.

5) In Infinity you need d20's and the infinity templates which you can print off online I believe (though I maybe mistaken) or can buy some nice ones for around $25 (maybe slightly less) from the Warstore.

I hope this helps as I am going to get into infinity within the next month or so. Hopefully the Warstore will have replenished their stock by then, because there must have been a huge spike in sales within the last couple of weeks.

Thanks a bunch this answers pretty much all my questions. I also realized that the game is much cheaper than I thought; I thought a euro was like two dollars but it's more like 1.5-ish.

I wonder if there are any vendors that sell the products in the U.S. It would be a little annoying to have to order everything online, especially from overseas.

Normally thewarstore.com has the whole line of Infinity products (including the nice templates I was talking about) at a 20% off discount and are located on Long Island NY. However I think there has been a huge spike in the game, because they are running out of stock within the last couple of weeks on many of the items.

frpgames.com is another US site, but doesn't off the same discount that the warstore does, which is a shame.

Plus Corvus Belli, the company that produces the game had a huge into deal for Infinity offering the main game books and starter armies for 50% off, but due to shipping to the states it wasn't that great for us, but it could also be a factor why the warstore has had the inventory problem.

I have also notice the Privateerpress was striking while the anti-GW sentiment was @ the peak these last few weeks! They also have a deal for both warmachine/hordes right now which is also causing problems with inventory.

1. Correct the downloads have everything you need, but furthermore their army builder is free (http://infinitythegame.com/dt_army/) and they have a wiki for easy searching of all the rules. (http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/Home)

2. I recommend new players start out at 150pts till you get the hang of things. 250-300 pts is the typical play cost which ranges from 8-15 models on average

3. Infinity does require a lot more terrain to keep AROs and LoS in check, but you can makeshift with boxes and books easily. You will wants some smaller pieces that are about the model's waist height too.

4. As you will notice from their pictures infinity minis are much heavier detailed then nost minitures and have some rather small pieces. They are a bit more challenging to assemble and paint but the results are WELL worth it. For novice painters you can get great results from the standard paint, wash, drybrush.

5. D20s and templates that you can print out on their site, just make sure when you print them you don't have auto-sizing on to fit the print area or your templates will print about an inch too short. The game also requires tokens tha are on their sight free to print as well. You can buy the templates from Microartstudios or Litko as well.

I can't recommend the game highly enough. As a 40k player it takes tactics to a whole new level.

Thanks for all the info guys, I just bought my first models (from Maelstorm) I got a Fiday, Lasiq, and two Muyibs. Philopsher assassins? Who are also muslim? This is like the best sci-fi faction ever

Hopefully I can play a game with 4 dudes, but I do have plenty of 40k figures to proxy with.

You'll find that 40k stuff proxies very easier for anything you are missing.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I'm just getting into the game as well, and found this video very useful (I posted it on the main Infinity thread here). It's quite long, I think about 40 minutes, but well worth watching.
