I've really gotten into Rift recently as a fantastic alternative to WoW when I'm not raiding. It's an easy going, well polished, enjoyable game with a great sense of achievement.

Something I am hunting after right now are the recruit a friend rewards which are fantastic, so if anyone would like to try it out, let me know. I am not sure if it is limited to EU realms, though Rift seems to not make a huge difference between EU and US, but my recruit a friend emails give 7 days free and if you upgrade you get a bonus title

Even if its only for the 7 day free trial, it's an great game for any MMO fan to try out, especially those used to WoW as the quest and interface system make it easy to get into.

I would like to take you up on that offer though but it would be a pitty to waste it if I know I can't afford to take it up after the 7 day trial.

Tried Rift on its release, pre-ordered awell it just didnt have somethin that WOW had.

Still a good game in its own right mind you.

i'm going for 33 paladin/ 33 Reaver/ 0 Beastmaster

But i'm stil lvl 13 tho, my dorm doesn't let me connect with the servers.

Thats ok Wolf, I don't think my invites are limited so you could try out the trial and if you want to upgrade at some point in the future, you can upgrade it from there

I think its been polished up a bit since, I play with friends so its also avoiding that " wow this place is empty" feeling. The amount of time I have put into wow since its release means I doubt any game will give me the same sense of enjoyment, but I'm not one of those gamers who insists its only possible to play one MMO at a time ><

Pyro/elem mage so far, rogue is going for ranger/marks with bard as an offspec. My god, Bard is hilarious.

Bards are awesome, there's a giant monster charging us..... It's time to play as song.

But their buffs are helpfull.

I had a mage with same loadout, but at the end of the starting zone, i decided to do something else then DPS. So I became a tank.
Plus its fun to spread diseases as abillity.

Ahh go on then I'll have a try at it I suppose !

I was in the Beta, and I got bored after about a week. Had nothing that really took me in. Generic Fantasy setting mostly did this though I guess.

With Soladrin on this one, played for literally only 4 days after release and binned it. Free trial is cool though. Just dont spend anymore on it

I think its been quite improved since release/beta then :S Out of the 8 of us who decided to try it out we are all well impressed, but don't expect a WoW killer. Theres no such thing.

Did you try out Age of Conan, Warhammer or Aion?

Sure there is. It's called WoW. Eventually it will kill itself off. It is only a matter of time (which apparently is coming faster according to their internal reports of players leaving in record numbers since the last expansion failed to hold their attention).

People will eventually get burnt out on the Skinnerbox Themepark model, and WoW will collapse on itself (and take a huge chunk of the MMO market with it). Sandbox MMOs are nice because you are perpetually carving out your own little niche in a virtual world; people only shy away from them because they tend to be fairly unforgiving with a steep learning curve. There's nothing stopping a developer from creating a sandbox game with WoW's streamlined nature or attention to quality, though.

That said, Rift is the most enjoyable WoW clone I've played, because it focuses on things that I actually enjoy (dynamic content and being able to mix and match to create your own class). I didn't get to play it for very long, but I did enjoy it more than I ever enjoyed WoW.
