So hot off the heels of my Crimson Fist sternguard squad I decided to go in the opposite direction: scouts! I've always wanted a unit of shotgun scouts in my army, and I just got a few in a trade on Dakka, so I figured it was high time to paint them! Unfortunately, I only have nine, but here goes:
The glass effect on the eye piece is very well done.. I may have to study that..
My lens technique is super duper simple - just a base color, a lighter shade in the lower corner, and a white dot in the upper opposite corner. When I do commissions, my clients love it
Those are some wonderful Scouts they look they are getting ready to jump out of a crater and blast some greenskins or whoever away . I love that Sage he looks like a grizzled ole turd sure he pinchs lots of heads of with that power fist of his Good Job

It's from the Space Wolf set - it comes with a bunch of scout heads including a few bitchin' mohawked ones! Unfortunately I can't remember where I put mine.
Your Scouts look great! I really like that you went with Shotguns, too. I've followed your work since I first got to Dakka (love your Iron Warriors) and have always liked what I see, even if I don't always say "hi" when I stop by.

Wow.
It all makes sense now. I've seen this so many times so many different ways, and you explained it in a single sentence. I know how to do this now. CAN I do it is still a question, but I know how, so it's really up to me practicing the technique.
This is one of those moments for me. I'm going to go try this a bit.

Thanks, I'm honored to have a fan
The lens technique can be made more intense by doing a middle shade between the two - so while I used Snot Green for the lens and Scorpion Green for that little highlight, I would then put a thin stripe of Goblin Green between the two in another stripe. Also, I could put a darker area around the white dot, probably using Dark Angels Green.
Looks great, dude! I love seeing unusual squads, and these guys more than fill the bill. Looks like that sergeant might need an extra big trigger guard to get the power finger in there. (No pun intended)

I like to imagine he shoots it like this:
But unfortunately it's pump action so I'm guessing he either pumps it with his powerfist hand or he does the pump action with his armpit. In other words, Rule of Cool applies
Brother, these look great! I just finished my squad of CF scouts last week and wish they look as nice as yours. I did all my lenses as well - same technique for the most part and same colors!
What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
