I think it's some sort of hyper realistic FPS.

It is seriously good stuff, its got some quite bad reviews but i personally think its awesome, especially if yoiu like combat sims. (its not the level of arma but it is still quite relaistic)
It has things like bullet drop, sniping chopper pilots and all sorts.
If anyone has it and fancies a game pm me for my GFL gamertag.

Its supposed to be one of the most realistic FPS. Military types like it for its difficulty and true to life bullet physics.
I prefer to enjoy my games. If I actually wanted to join the army, I would

Its not that bad, tbh OFRR is easy on normal difficulty (harder than your run and gun fps) but by no means a challenege.
When you put it on hardcore then it gets difficult, no hud, no ammo check, no compass, no map, nothing.
The mini missions are cool though, digging in and defending an area with 4 players, you should try it its not as "ultra realistic" as some people rave about on the net

Is that the one with the 'if you get hit once you die' amount of damage in it? If so I'll probably check it out, I really enjoyed the original Rainbow Six on the PC because of the intensity of it.

On hardcore pretty much, but on normal if you get shot you have to sotp the bleeding, then patch yourself up when you get chance.
Depending on where you get shot on hardcore you can do this but if you get shot in the face your pretty much done for

You're thinking of the ARMA series, where it entirely depends on where you're hit and what you're hit with.
Red River toned down the realism a bit because Codemasters don't believe that people find it fun. Quite frankly I think they shot themselves in the foot by doing so considering the last two OPFP's were strictly simulators, but that's just me.
I hear it's alright, though the general consensus is still that Arma II/ OA run circles around it.

I think theyve redeemed themselves with the new one, dragon rising was stupidly rubbish.
With the new one i find in a very niche place in games, its between COD, and BF at one side of the spectrum and ARMA at the other so its great for people like me that like both sides of Online fps's, play cod when i want to relax, play ofrr when i want to go hardcore
(i think i may just be a fanboy of the new one though so take what i say with a handful of salt)

Not a fanboy mike, I enjoy the older Rainbow Six games for their... well its hard to say this... better realism. They had all sorts of customizations and weapons you could go with, in fact in the first one you could have a shotgun with slugs, rubber batons, or shot and bullets could be either FMJ or hollow point. Gear was into light, medium, and heavy and other gear could be given to members of the teams. Best of all was the planning, you could plan the entire mission for every 'team' you set up which was very cool. No med kits or anything either, and your people had different status levels; green=okay, yellow=hurt, orange=incapacitated, red=dead. The difference was that you had specific people with certain skills and if they were killed in a mission you couldn't use them in a later one, if they were incapacitated you had to wait to use them while wounded and okay could be used in the next mission although I wounded took some negative modifiers to them. Great game though, heavy armor and hit in the gut with a pistol would probably cause a wounded status while a headshot on heavy armor could cause a death or incapacitated. It all depended on what gun the enemy had, your armor, and where you were shot. I'll probably have to pick this up if it is somewhat similar to Rainbow Six in terms of 'realism'.

As far as being a simulator went, it was fine. Not ARMA good - I think BI does a better job utilizing the VBS2 system - but still decent enough.
