Hi all - well I'm slowly recovering from my back problems and my paint brush is on fire I started this Ironclad a while back and was tempted with a Salamander's army for a while, I even got some scenic lava bases and a cheap Tac Squad off Ebay. As it is this is looking to be the first of a 'Salamander's Trilogy' for my store (maybe Quadrilogy as Vulkan's tempting me) with the Tac Squad and a unit of TH/SS termies in my mind's future projects file.

I decided to use some simple techniques (I've got a lot of stuff to paint) but try out my freehand (typically a weakness for me) with some flames (although I'm a coward so only applied it to one arm) and actually used some decals - something I haven't done for a while. I used a techinque similar to 'true flame' (although no way near Bobinator standards ) using wavy guide lines and then building up the flames from there in about 3 layers, before blending them together with a wash of Baal Red. It's my first attempt at freehand flame (aside from crude Bad Moon's style) and I'm pretty happy with it

Thanks for looking

Looks great I wish I had the money to buy it
But in all honesty it has the coolest flames

Very nice, but honestly, I think the chainfist is a little boring with just the green. Some flames or whatever on there would improve it (IMHO). Otherwise, fantastic job!

The freehand flames look great, nice job. Some of the green looks a little flat, but I think that's just the photo, as there are clearly other areas which you've shaded/highlighted etc.

AMAZING LAVA
I can feel the heat, how did you do it Maybe just a list of paints you used and I’ll work the rest out would be much appreciated as I intend my GK to be lava based

Yeah I did wimp out a little TBH - I wasn't too sure how far to apply the flame and it was just a practice run. I'll be braver in the future...promise

Yeah, I bought the set they do. I actually used the tutorial on their site to paint it, worked a treat. Here's the link:

Oddly enough I brush-painted it. I didn't see the sense in mixing a green up to spray for just one mini (as a dread is mostly metal after all) & when I started the weather was pretty nasty to allow for spraying. I used Vallejo Game Colour 'Sick Green' and the pigmentation is fantastic, so it pretty much took care of itself. I applied a semi-heavy base coat (heavier than I would usually) and finished it off with several thinner layers to help smooth it out where needed. The Matt varnish just finished it off nicely

Thanks all for the comments, much appreciated
