Sitting in yo' bath tub, poopin out shoggoths

First off I need to say I am new to painting, I wanted to start a P&M blog for a while, so I finally got a camera (as crappy as it is) and took some photos and uploaded em' to dakka.

So I need to say once more these are my First ever painted models and my camera is crap (hope to change that by the time Christmas rolls around).

I'm not going to say much about the background of my JeanStealers but I will say, they are not Tyranid genestealers.

They are my orks that like to steal Jeans from a certain Dakka member

I will link more background info on them later when I post it in the dakka fiction section...

Secondly before I start posting, my blood ravens. You will probably see some Dawn of War inspired things popping up in this thread...that's because DoW got me into 40k,
and the blood ravens hold a special place in my heart for my favorite chapter. So I decided to model my Space marines after the DoW2 crew (all 3 DoW2 games)

So without further delay...lets see some orks!!!

These are my 2 warbosses "stompy" left and "killy" right. They are twins...came out of the same spore! They like to try to kill each other while the other isn't looking, but at the end of they day they know they love each other very much.....er....they know they love killing other people very much...their we go.

I made Stompy from a metal ork warboss and an ork biker nob big choppa, I like how he turned out Killy is just my AoBR warboss.

some more pictures of the warboss duo...

Stompy looking evil as ever!

His big biker choppa

Killy looking extra mean!

BAM! powerklaw!!

And what Warboss (or warbosses) is ever truly a warboss without boyz to order about!

I know these pictures are kinda blurry....Bad camera and all....

I call him "Hot shot" because actually...he can shoot those sluggas as fast as any other boy can shoot their shootas!

This has to be my favorite boy from all the other boyz I have

I used heads and weapons from the biker kit I got from my battleforce!

Some orky terrain pieces

DoW inspired WAAGH!! banner

and my WAAGH!! flag

The first model I ever painted

I think for a first model I did pretty good...I'm proud at least

and now...it's time for some Blood Ravens
This is just what I got from AoBR, I do plan on buying more though

My almost finished tactical squad

I just need to finish the missile launcher guy and the leader

and a close up of a tactical marine

Yes, another blurry picture but it's all I have for now, I have yet to do the eyes though...

C&C welcome as always

always trying to improve on my nooby painting skills

That has to be my biggest fear so far....I don't want to mess up on a model at all if I do I feel like I'm a bad painter....
So if I say...use a different color and they don't work well together, I feel like a ruined a perfectly good model
It's one of those things I'm trying to get better at...

First rule of Paint club... NO FEAR. That said Your grip on the basics of painting looks very good. block coloring (ie staying in the lines, with no color slop) Basic layering (tin bitz? on the boltgun metal of the Power claw)

Next stage of painting to work on would be any of the following; shading, blending, and/or highlighting and you'll be golden. (as far as shading and blending go I HIGHLY recommend using a "wet pallete" as for highlighting.. well I SUCK at it so the only advice I can give is do your best.)

Once I get home from classes today I planned on going over my blood ravens with a blood-red highlight, my first time highlighting....

and as for shading and blending......I know that's something I need to work on.

This looks loads better then the gak I first painted.

Also, that "Waaagh" banner? I had one of those when I was a kid. I miss my army men.

I've sold so many armies. :(

No worries my friend, you have a far better grip on the basics than I did when I was starting. I'm sure you will do fine whenever you give things a try.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, I don't think highlighting would be a problem, but shading/blending is going to be tough...

If they're in jeans, at least one of them needs a white t-shirt

Good going. Lots of character there.

Next step, maybe, would be to drill the gun barrels.
It's fiddly, and not required, but adds a lot of effect for such a little change.

Once I get a small enough drill, I'll do the barrels

I have a nob and a dreadnought that I need to upload...I might do that in a little bit

Excellent job for your first painting, shading is what washes are for, so don't worry about that.

And don't worry about making mistakes, it's part of that job. If you do, just make sure to clean it up quick, and that you can always strip and re-paint a mini if you don't think it's good.
