I've had this topic come up across gaming for a while, I'd like to settle it. If we assume that all the races were evolved to their max, and had equal supplies of biomatter. Who would win in a war?
I think it's the Zerg, for example the Zergling is way stronger than the Hormaguant, they can reproduce twice as fast as Aliens, and the Zerg infestation turns their enemy against eachother.

Hard to declare a victor between the tyranids and the flood. They're both pretty similar in the way they operate. I would probably go with tyranids in that particular fight though, as being from the 40k universe they're ridiculously OP. Plus they don't rely on other civilisations for space travel.
Aliens don't really have much of a chance against those two - they reproduce slower AFAIK, and don't utilise dead biomass. As for the zerg, I know exactly nothing about them.

Actually, I think the flood in a battle starting with equal forces, would win. Because the flood can infect and take over bodies on the fly. And since Tyranids bioweapons are part of their bodies, they don't even need to salvage any weapons. Same go's for space travel, if a few flood infection forms can somehow hitch a ride into one, your pretty much done. Not to mention what would happen if they can amass enough biomass to form a gravemind.
That said though, it all depends on first contact, if the Nids slaughter them right from the get go, it's pretty much over. Just remember people, most of the flood you fought in the games are human or elite zombies, so not nearly as powerfull as higher up nid forms. Put since this is purely flood vs nids, I reckon we judge this from the pure form floods. In which case someone nids are gonna get absolutely trashed. Tank forms are brutal.
Hell, the flood infection is virus based, so consuming their infected biomass would infect the nids, so unless the main fleet can evolve a counter for the infection, they are doomed from the get go. A consuming force is probably the best possible match up for the flood.

I'm fairly sure the flood spreads by spores, not viruses. But you make good points.

It spreads by spores, but the actual flood at it's base is a virus. Look up the stuff with Sargeant Johnson, he's the only guy who could resist it(HUGE SARGE SPOILER)

Tyranids... so many variations of these motherfethers... Down to the most simplistic gants to the terrors of the tyrants and trygons.
That also being said, there is the genestealers.... well... gene that infects humans and causes mutations.
I was on the fence between tyranids and zerg, but I personally think we'd stand a better chance vs zerg than tyranids... I mean zerg has terrible anti air and thats a fact

Judging from halo the only thing that stops the flood from instantly munching you is a personal energy shield, or at least inorganic fully enclosed armour.... So i would say flood, the nids would probably be the strongest military force though.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable. |

Tyranids, I mean they can adapt like crazy. I think that against the flood, it'd be okay, they're infecting us, lets adapt, and make a better version to infect them! I mean isn't that why the Imperium has never viral bombed a planet with a huge nid population?

Chose Aliens/Xenomorphs.
The Flood are essentially zombies, but that's their limit. They spread via virus-spore-mumbo-jumbo. The fluff is unimportant, it's not scientifically believable anyways. Aside from all that, the Flood is limited to the host they infect. They enhance the abilities slightly, but they're no better than Infested Terrans with better aim. They got defeated by Master Chief and that guy has the reflexes of a rusted gate. On the other hand, it did take the combined effort of both the Imperium/Terrans and the Eldar/Protoss to stop them.
Zerg, aside from being a comically boring rip-off of Tyranids, are not very exciting. They're essentially bugs. They're unthinking bugs. The only way Blizzard thought of making them interesting is by shoving a sex-symbol into the bunch. It has taken the combined effort of the Imperium/Terrans and the Eldar/Protoss to stop them and they still haven't been stopped completely. They've only been stunted by a magical Blizzard MacGuffin. Then again, the story is at least interesting with the Zerg not being all malicious.
Tyranids are interesting for being utterly alien. They're beyond this galaxy. They use our best parts against us. In a straight fight, they'd beat all others in this list. They are more numerous than anything else. They evolve too fast for the Flood to have any biological effect. They're too numerous and piecemeal intelligent for the Zerg. They're simply better than the Aliens in variety. However...
Aliens/Xenomorphs are the most interesting. Tyranid Genestealers come close, but not quite. Aliens are scary because they invoke a human fear of being raped and impregnated; even males are not safe. This is how they reproduce. It's disgusting, utterly violent, and yet a bastardization of something that happens to humans normally. Aside from that, the Aliens have been depicted as being a near-perfect predator. Every part of them from whip-tail to acid blood to multiple mouths to dark skin are made as a giant "@#$% you" to anything it would cross. Tyranids come close to this near-perfection, but they are united in many individuals performing a combined task. Aliens are the whole awesome in one package and scary on the side.

Possibly Elites because they are smart enough to team up (occasionally) with UNSC, have over sheilds and to make special weaponry like plasma repeaters and energy swords.

Yet another example of a person speaking on a subject by reading the cover, of course not a bad job of reading the cover. The Zerg and Tyranid are differant some look similar ex: Ravener/Hydralisk Carnifex/Ultralisk but most are way different in their rendered appearance. The story of the Zerg are linked with the Protoss, that's like saying the Tyranid and Eldar are linked in origin. The Zerg were created by the same people to made the Protoss, TO DESTROY THE UNIVERSE. The Zerg evolve when they capture biomatter say the found a dog, it would be taken to a chamber, samples would be taken and they would introduce it into the larva, thats how Zerglings got faster they found a dog and studied it's muscule structure. That "sex-symbol" is was more then that Sarah Kerrigan is perhaps the most BA female character in all of gaming, her story is rittled with betrayals, but Kerrigan's story can be boiled down to one word vengence. And then there is the Zerg infestation that turn people into mindless soldiers. Zerg inbody the nature of man's hatred going on a rampage.

The flood aren't just zombies. First off, with a gravemind, they will gain co-ordination the same as nids, without needing any synapse creatures. They are NOT limited to the hosts they infect, and if you had read my previous post, you would know this, Flood Pure forms aren't push overs. And the comment on Masterchief... really? Now your just trolling... They got defeated by the combined forces of the elites and humans, not just by masterchief.
Just wanted to correct your general mis-information here I do argee that if the nids can evolve immumity fast enough, flood are pretty much boned, the thing is however, for this to happen, the nids need to get a sample of it back to the queen-thingy-majiggy. If the flood get there first, they win. The biggest difference between flood and things like nids, is they instantly take over biomass, they don't need to consume it, they kill something, and it could be up and walking again in the next 10 minutes. So for the nids to be able to evolve immumities, they would need to have survivors on first contact.
The flood aren't a galactic plague by just being space zombies
