First, just a quick break down of my exprience with other miniature games. In 40k I've played Sisters of Battle and Imperial guard, and find myself to perfer the Sisters "Medium" infantry style. While in Warmachine I played Khador for their medium to heavy infantry. So my friends and I have all decided to start Infinity. So far we've players for Adriana, PanOciania, and Nomads. I myself has been torn between Yu Jing and Haqqislam. I really do perfer the Haqqislam models, but their seeming reliance upon light infantry has me worried I might be picking up the equivilant of 40k's Imperial Guard. And while Yu Jing's models are sub-par to me, I think that their play style would be more suited to me. Could anyone pleae just give me a quick run down between the two factions, I've been looking everywhere and have yet to recieve a solid answer.

Hello, ShatteredBlade.
Allow me to paste here an old post that I did long ago for another user that had a similar question.

I have played a few Infinity games, maybe I can help you.

First thing you need to know is that infinity is usually played using 10-16 miniatures. It is a Skirmish game, you wont find massive armies here, just a firefight between very specialized commandos.

So, you are between Yu Jing and Haqqislam, don´t you? Let´s see...

Yu Jing: They usually have better "CC" values, martial arts, CC deadly weapons. But close combat fights are casual in this game, it is usually more effective shooting than using a knife. Yu Jing have more variety of Heavy Infantry, those are the guys with power armors. The coolest miniatures of the range. Yu Jing is the most complete army, they have a bit of everything.
Game Style: They can do anything, very heterodox.
What to purchase as a beginner player? Now you have two different starter pack to choose, I think that starter packs are the best way to begin an army by models, price, troops...
Yu Jing Starter Pack

and Japanese Sectorial army Starter Pack, this troops can be played in the generic Yu Jing army but can also be used in the Japanese sectorial army, which is a themed sub-faction.

One of those starters have about 125pts of troops, you can maybe reach a 200pts army purchasing some of these:
Blister of two Tiger Soldiers, best para-troops of the game

Aragoto Senkenbutai, Japanese Bikers, really fast and demolishing attacking troops.

Yaokong Remotes. The chinese remotes can perform an amazing defensive role with the total reaction remote. It can shoot 4 dice in reactive turn.

Haqqislam: They usually have better "WIP" values, useful for healing, courage, discovering cammos, hacking, innitiative... The have plenty of light infantry troops, so they can align more miniatures.
Game Style: Many miniatures, some religious faith "never surrender" rules. Multiple especialized guys, good doctors.

As you can see, you have two Haqqislam options for starter pack:
Haqqislam Starter Pack

Hassassin Bahram Starter Pack, this troops can be played in the generic Haqqislam army but can also be used in the Hassassin sectorial army, which is a themed sub-faction.

As I wrote about the Yu Jing starters, any of these would be about 125pts each. for reaching an effective 200pts. army I would recommend:
Maghariba Guard. Like a TANK. Big gun, high armor.

Djanbazans. These guys have Multispectral Visor Level2, they can see through smoke and have no modifiers when shooting at cammo troops. Plus, they can regenerate their wounds.

Touaregs. Thermo-optical cammo troops, good skirmishers.

Lol not sure where that came from lol

Bobba pretty much hit all the important notes so I'll just toss in my 2 cents. In my experiance Yu-Jing have killer heavy infantry while Haqq have amazing line troops. You can't really make a comparison from 40k because in Infinity even the most basic guys is extremely deadly. A standard haqq line troop can have the doctor ability to heal he fellow guys if they take a wound or came equipped with a heavy flamer thrower. If you have never seen the large teardrop template for infinity... it's terrifying... and that is on a 12pt dude (typical full size game is 250-300). Haqq also have really nasty viral weapons to include a viral sniper, but on the other had Yu-Jing has Thermal Optic Camo.

I'm a bit partial to Haqq, but I play Nomads so Yu-Jing is naturally on my *bleep* list.

How are the haqqislam unicycles? And the flamer guys?

The Naffatun ("flamer guys") are tremendously useful. In Infinity, hitting your target really means a lot, and flamethrowers are rather difficult to dodge. Flamethrowers also allow you to make "intuitive attacks" which help in directly attacking camouflaged troops. All that and Naffatun are acceptably cheap.

The Kum Bikers ("Unicycles") are questionable IMHO. They're difficult to control because they're impetuous and you'll have to spend orders holding them back. They're also really fast due to both their impetuous order and their outright speed. You'll find the Kum Bikers speeding ahead of your main force often.
That being said, they make up for their disadvantages with their great weaponry and each motorcycle coming with smoke launchers allowing their near-suicidal charges to be survivable. They're also nicely costed for what they can do.
They're a hassle to use correctly, but when you do, they perform excellently.

Nice. I've bought the naffatun, odalisques? And Tuareg, really liked their look. Unfortunately the starter sets were all sold out when I bought them, so I probably don't have a balanced force.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Which Taureg mini did you buy? With the TO camouflage they are pretty useful, ASFIK nothing else on the Haqq force has that.

I agree with Absolutionis, the Kum bikers can be effective if used properly, and if nothing else they are a proponent that your opponent will be forced to deal with. Although I must say I prefer the sculpts for the Yu Jing bikers.

As for getting a balanced force, I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Just buy a blister of Ghulams to give you some light infantry, play a few games with minimal miniature count just to get the hang of the rules, then start introducing the more interesting and exotic stuff.

Kum bikes are a hell of a lot nastier then I believed them to be. The combination of fast speed and smoke launchers turned out to be a rather vicious combination.

I got the Tuareg with sniper rifle. But yeah I mainly plan on buying the figures that I think look cool and would be fun to paint.

Looking forward to playing the game one of these days....
