Hello all, I just got the book the other day for the minis wargame "Tomorrow's War" and it covers so much I will be reading it a while. So looks great! flexible size and ranges based on the size of the minis so either 15mm or 28mm, or even crazier, if you want to go 54mm, then adjust the ranges and movements to keep the game scenarios working. Amazing! It was also a nice price for a full color hard bound book. 28USD was no bad deal as it is a nicely made book and full color pages with interesting graphics, and pictures showing differe4nt scale minis and vehicles from a wide range of makers for use, so it is a game that allows any mini you have, although I will have to see if they do have anything that helps allow for using any of those weirder bits like power weapons or chain swords, although they may come out with such a strange concept later on. They do seem to acknowledge body armor, powered exo-frames and battle suits, drones, computer networking, AI and simple robots, and there is a section for making alien units, I can't wait to get to that section. it has a sample campaign setting, and some colorful background of political block militarys used in space colonies fighting past Earth. Got grave or hover tanks? use 'em. tracked or wheeled? good to go.

Gangers or powered armor troops? also good.

You can make up your own factions and they are from a full nation, or organizations, not simply a sub-sect of a massive and huge empire. Although I think any of this can be altered slightly, as you can make up your own background for your forces.

I would like to hear about it from folks who have tested it out already and get their own feedback.

I've been playing AAG's games for a while and I love them. Cold War Gone Hot is my current love but TW is a close second. Played a few test games with 40k figgies. Space Marines are awesome, they can dish out and soak up so much firepower it's almost silly. But as your might have 9 or 10 of them it's not so over powering.

Great find, I hope you enjoy the game. Have you signed up for the AAG forum? It's got some neat stuff there plus Shawn Carpenter is a regular poster. It's nice to see his take on his own game.

Sounds pretty good, is it skirmish or squad-based? I've been looking for a 15MM sci-fi alternative to 40K. If only somebody made 15MM Orks...

Have not gotten completely to all the details, but pics show squads with tanks in them, and some just a few small half squads, so flexibility as IRL is part of the core of the game, that and they have a spot where you could likely make rules for Orks in the system. But it is very friendly in 15 or 28mm scales.

Its squad based with most of the time a platoon on the table, with assorted vehicles ant heavy weapons team. Of course its flexiabloe enough to allow you to do what ever you want. You dont even need to migrate over to 15mm, unless you want to. The system is flexiable enough and gives you guidelines to use what ever you already have. You already have a ton of Orks, painted with vehicles? The rules will give you ideas how to convert them to this game.

Overall I have been very happy with all the AAG products. THe gameplay is quick and easy. Ver intuitave and flows very well. Can be very deadly also. Between builds a 15mm Sci-fi force, I am building a 20mm Marine and Iraqi forces for "THe March to Bagdad".

It's a Skirmish (one squad equals one person) Squad-based game typically played with a couple of squads per side. The games we've played have had a quarter to a third as many figures on the table as a typical 40k game and far, far fewer vehicles, though it can be played at larger engagements. The playstyle is completely different from 40k though. 40k is about sci-Fantasy, army lists, IGOUGO, charging and close combat and tons of figures on the table. TW is about Hard Sci-Fi, scenario play, reaction-based activation mechanics and a far more "realistic" combat mostly centered around firearm combat.

Thanks Eilif!

I just read the initiative/activation to non-initiative/reaction rules, amazing! no one is sitting around stuffing their face waiting for you to finish moving every model you have and firing on them like some sort of target dummy, and then switching.

This is a very fluid concept, me likey!

Once I got my head around that and the 'die shift' I was good to go. Glad you like it, can't wait to see some AAR's =o]

I have no interest in using the rules and the US fanwank made it a bit hard to read at times, but TW is probably the most thought-out approach to the effects of near-future tech on the evolution of warfare that I've ever seen in a game system.

It is so far a tad more complex than 40k, but in a good way.

NO more complex than any other game of its illk, try ASL for a fun time. or SFB. Remember 40k is 20+years old and is still rooted in that style. It is also written to lowest common denominator, ie the 12 yr old. Nothing wrong with that, just realize there is a whole other world out there and 40k, and GW in general, is not the whole Hobby. no matter what they,GW, says about itself.

Welcome to the big new world.

@ lord blackfang: what is US fanwank?

True, and it is so easy to work the alien armies I have into units for this game.

I did alot of the pics and a fair bit of the 'fluff'.

As one of the English crew involved with the 2011 releases by AAG/Osprey Im guessing the 'US Fanwank' phrase is directed at the fact he thinks its all US based, despite the large amount of other nations featured. Not enough Russians in it maybe?

Dude, it was awesome, you had both a resurgent Tzarist Russia on Earth and colonizing, and a break-away that was a new Soviet Revolutionary. Plenty fo Russia love there. I own some OC minis in the larger 25-28mm scale for my own Army. That drop-ship is BIG!

I am still chewing through and thoroughly enjoying the material. Had to figure that "Brew-up" is not a typo.

I suspect that US fanwank is another one of those terms that foreigners make up just so us Americans won't know what they're talking about.

I'm not american and I don't understand it either. I've got both Tomrorow's War and Force on Force and I didn't notice any US fanwank in either of them, whatever that is.

Excellent systems, and I can't play anything that doesn't have a reaction system anymore (Infinity, Tomorrow's War). Now that I've seen the alternative I don't want to go back to watching my opponent do stuff for 15 minutes at a time.

Glad you liked the Russian bits... I wrote that and most of the little narratives.

Soon my new Imperial Russian Army will be revealed, including the next stage of the secretive 'Cossack' genetic programme...

Im also discussing with Shawn a couple of TW supplements to come after the one they have ready for this year that focuses on SF units and Aliens... Im hoping to do a campaign book based on the war for Mockba, and one charting the adventures of the Gunbird, the dropship you see in the above pics and its role in various galatic hotspots, especially its drop of troops over Eden.

It just may be that they had some folks who work with near future tech and the doctrine for it helping on the rules.

As for skirmish/not skirmish:

Typically the player manuevers and fires with a group of figures (fire team in most cases). The player takes on the role of a plussed up platoon leader/company commander and as such is not too worried about individual figure line of sight and stuff, he is concerned about the small unit. Though each figure represents a single person, I don't really see it as a skirmish game.

I liked the AK-400 side bar.

Interesting, I have tried to figure out how an energized weapon for close combat would work, I was figuring a higher D, like a D-10? Chain weapons would be a interesting thing too. Or is it the TL vs TL deal? Based on what I have read the squads with TQ-D12 across the board would be lethal, especially in powered armor. Even if they were D-10 they would be harsh!

TW is so very much set for human/human fights as the easiest to orchestrate so far. I need to work out how I can use other minis w/o tossing out balance. I think Orks will be fairly easy.

That lander looks like an upside down attack helicopter. Possibly AH-64, or even one of the Russian ones ("Snoopy" comes to mind - Mil-28 Havoc) to me.
