Looking to start an Artillery Regiment... Fluffy - story is that it's been mistaken for a frontline rifleman regiment, it got to the warzone and the CO is in over his head. He just waved at a random commissar and said "let him deal with it"

HQ
Lord Commissar Ralph - 'pace, PW

Techpriest Enginseer Aurelius

Troops
3 penal legion squads

hvy support

9 basilisks with hull hvy flamers

Alternatively, the same regiment got to a warzone commanded by someone competent (much less likely) who gave them some decent protection.

HQ

Captain Winters. MB
Command squad - 4 GL

Troops

3x Veteran squads with 3 melta guns. Tossing up whether to give them lasguns, shotguns, or laspistol/ccw.

Hvy Support

9 Basilisks with hull hvy flamers

In both lists, the objective is the same... 2 troops will go forward to claim objectives, while the 3rd troop and hq stay behind to guard against DS/outflanking units come to wipe out the basilisks.

Either way, I'm looking forward to my opponents face when I rock up to my next game and deploy 9 basilisks.

When in deadly danger,
When beset by doubt,
Run in little circles,
Wave your arms and shout.

The problem with 9 basilisks are that they can only shoot at maximum 3 targets...For a fluffy list it will be fun...if you are looking to win I would drop to 2 basks (2 squadrons) and a manticore with hydra's as Fast Attack. Much more competitive but still artillery...sorta.

Reread the rules of Barrage and Ordanance Barrage weapons. (I think pages 58-60?) The rules there tell you how to fire at things within the minimum range. Basilisks are better than most people think. BUT I would put a griffin in each group and try to have it at the front so you get to have that lay the marker shot

putting griffons and basilisks in the same group is an awful idea. Just when the griffon finally gets in range, the basilisk hits its blind spot. When the basilisk needs to move to acquire a target close-in, the griffon can't move to fire directly (and within the minimum distance you don't get to use multiple barrage rules anyways). If you want 9 basilisks, then take 9 basilisks.

As for the lists, the second one is way, way better than the first. Of course, both of them are going to see you slaughtered against good opponents most times. As mentioned, you're only looking at 3 real shots per turn due to targeting restrictions, and 9 AV12 vehicles aren't THAT difficult to stop, especially when immobilized results become vehicle destroyed. Throw in a weapon destroyed result as being good enough, and a penetrating hit on that AV12 causes the vehicle to become worthless 2/3ds of the time.

Meanwhile, the rest of your list does basically nothing. Objective missions are going to be practically impossible as your opponent only needs to kill, at most, 20 guardsmen to completely shut down any hopes you have of victory.

If you want to do an artillery-heavy list at 1500 points, I'd recommend dropping your basilisk count from 9 to 6 so that you have the points to equip the core of your list properly.

i dont know for sure since i dont use squadrons but doesnt imobilized only count if the squadron moves after the damage....cuz i dont think id be moving ordnance weapons since they cant fire not having lumbering behemoth. and regardless of what i here, a stationary tank is not a dead tank unless you always roll 1's for cover saves..................

Immobilized is wrecked no if, ands, or buts. And ordnance can most definately move 6 and fire. Note here that the basilisk has to fire directly to do this.

fluffy thing, the enginseer. might have a hard time serving the 3 troops, though.
the arty batallion won´t survive long after all, cause it´s in both real and 40k a support unit, not a core one and needs proper protection, which IMO can´t be done with only 3 squads and only 1 hanging back blobbing.
anyway, very nice story .

my bad barks, i remember the BRB saying that ordnance required full attention of the crew so they couldnt do anything else....but that is only for firing, you can still move and shoot, the lumbering behemoth just allows you to shoot the ordnance+more weapons. and that imobilized stuff is bs, if the squadron takes an imobilized and stays there it shouldnt be counted as wrecked, unless the others leave it behind. tank turrets can rotate..........that rule needs to change, along with a lot of others lol
