Hey just recently started warhammer back up am currently dusting off my tau and wondering if this army list is up to much. mostly non tornamants since im just starting back up. 1000 pts

Shas'el +2 body guards
Plasma rifle , missile pod , iridum armour , multi tracker for body guards . plasma rifle replaced for cyclic ion blaster
cost:286

Elites
stealth team (3members)
2 Fusion Blasters
94

Troops

firewarriors x12
one upgraded to shas'ui
cost:130

firewarriors x12
one upgraded to shas'ui
cost:130

firewarriors x12
one upgraded to shas'ui
cost:130

Heavy support

sniper drone team
cost: 80pts

hammerhead
railgun
burst cannon drones.
cost:150

ive read a few lists but I don't know why but everybody seems to put everything in transports. but i havent mainly because i never used to and i have yet to see the reason i figured if i use the deep strike on my suits and try and cripple there mobility i can just kill them in a hail of pulse rifle fire.

when i start on 1500 points im thinking of adding a second hammerhead and some piranhas.

holy crap can it be? ITS A LIST I UNDERSTAND!!! HALLELUJAH!!!

im not really a tau player but i can see that the only anti tank thing you have is the 2 fusion blasters and railgun (rail guns are best but still it will be focused on)

you should have shaso so its higher bs and better stats also i would add a fusion blaster for him so he can pop tanks easier and doesn't need a markerlight

pathfinders are not really that useful in small numbers they cant cap objectives either so it might be best to scrap them for more points

your warriors are going to foot slog you might as well have it so that they have markerlight drones as well to increase bs

snipe drones are ... ok at most they can kill space marines but that's all about it they are not good agenst hords and cant break heavy vehicals so i would say no for them

hammer head's are amazing but broadsides are better because of twin linked railguns and more of them in 1 squad

also the reason that people take transports is because that they can get to capture points faster but loose fire power in the procces

we dunno wot you been told,
our Stormboyz here are mighty bold,
we da best of da lot,
we make yins look like grots

You have the Elite slots available, so break the bodyguards off into separate units, ditching the Irid Armor and the CiB. Thus:

Shas'el - Target Array, two guns, hwMT

Elite #1 - Team Leader, two guns, Target Array, hwMT
Elite #2 - Team Leader, two guns, Target Array, hwMT

killer4571 wrote:stealth team (3members) 2 Fusion Blasters
This is not legal. It's only one FB per 3 stealths. Having said that, that's a pricey melta-wep. 90+ points for one shot. The times I run Stealths are all BCs, dedicated to killing troops from 18+ inches away, ensuring a far longer life-span than <6" and then JSJ to <12" for the FB's double Pen roll on a tank.

killer4571 wrote:firewarriors x12 one upgraded to shas'ui
If you're going to upgrade to 'Ui, why not have the BK too? Didja just forget to type it?

killer4571 wrote:hammerhead - railgun - burst cannon drones.
BC/drones? Huh? Do mean *just* drones or the two Burst Cannons? Either way, add a Dispod for the Cover Save and an MT to Move & Shoot like a Fast Vehicle. I'd go the two BCs.

killer4571 wrote:ive read a few lists but I don't know why but everybody seems to put everything in transports. but i havent mainly because i never used to and i have yet to see the reason
Because 5e made transports and vehicles far more resilient than they were in 4e.

Deep Striking FireKnives is not a good strategy. Maybe DSing Helios or just TL-FBs ... but I like to start on the table with all my guns, so Reserve goofery doesn't hose me if the suits arrive by Turn 4 or 5.

I'd advocate b-sides and more suits, not that Railheads aren't great nor piranhas, just that XV88s and XV8s are better.

1k is a good level for tau, lotsa room for XV8s to JSJ and stay safe long enough to immobilize the enemy and then blow away troops.

Played a 1000pt Tau list and i think there is alot of room for improvement in the list.

First thing I agree with the advice to lose the bodyguards just add the commander to one of the squads on te first turn. Take MP and PR if you have the points spare if not MP and BC are a lovely amounts of shots. I could get minimum of 6 suits in my 1000pt list.

As for troops, FW are way too expensive for what they are. If your want to take 12 FWs id definately take them in a devilfish and employ the Fish of Fury tactic or in objective game hold them back to hold an objective. Take kroot if you have them, 70pts for 10 kroot put them in a building 4+ cover save and better in CC than FW's. At 1000pts id stick to two troop choices but thats just a personal opinion.

I have 1 tetra at 55pts in my 1000pt list, this gives me 4 markerlights which is a nice help. but at 1000pts pathfinders might be too large a sink of points.

I also managed to get an Ionhead and two broadsides in 1000pt list. Im not sure one hammerhead is enough at 1000pt imo. If you would like me to write in my 1000pt list just to give you an idea just shout.

Good luck.

Almost all of your advice is pretty good, except the first item.

jbsnv wrote:you should have shaso so its higher bs and better stats also i would add a fusion blaster for him so he can pop tanks easier and doesn't need a markerlight
A Shas'el with Target Array keeps the same BS. And avoids useless Init and WS increases that pretty much do him no good. If suits are caught in h2h, then it's best that they die or lose combat so as to turn the enemy's unit lose so on your turn, after he assaulted you, you can shoot the unengaged enemy unit.

1. He'll still need 4s to hit MEqs in h2h. They just won't need 3s to hit him.
2. The extra wound? Meh. I'd rather he die and let the enemy lose than be tarpitted.
3. Init 4. Yay. He gets to hit at the same time as MEqs. Still not a big deal as he's likely to cause one wound, which a muhreen will negate with his armor save.

Points spent on the 'O versus 'El are better spent on Shield Drones, half a FireStorm, etc.

I would agree with you in regards to the O's versus el's, always used to use el's in my 1000pt lists but since moving to 1500pts i have started using the O's, but if you are struggling with points then i totally agree with you Brother.
