Hey, at some point in the future I plan on starting a salamanders army and this is the list I've come up with so far;
Chapter master
+ thunder hammer
+ artificer armour
+ hellfire rounds
180
Honour guard squad
+ 2 extra guys
+ thunder hammer
+ 4 relic blades
+ drop pod
295
Vulkan He'stan 190
190
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta
+ drop pod
+ death wing
+ locator beacon
240
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta
+ drop pod
+ death wing
+ locator beacon
240
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta
+ drop pod
+ death wing
230
10 stern guard
+ 2 melta guns
+ power fist
+ 8 combi meltas
+ drop pod
+ locator beacon
370
10 stern guard
+ 2 melta guns
+ power fist
+ 8 combi meltas
+ drop pod
360
Venerable dreadnought
+ heavy flamer
+ drop pod
210
5 assault marines
(no jump packs)
+ thunder hammer
+ plasma pistol
+ flamer
+ drop pod
+ locator beacon
165
Thunderfire cannon
100
5 devastators
+ 4 plasma cannons
190
5 devastators
+ 4 lascannons
230
3,000
The 4 drop pods with locator beacons will be the first to drop with the devastators & thunderfire cannon giving fire support. Vulkan will be travelling with 1 of the sternguard vet squads. What do you think? Automatically Appended Next Post: I might take the locator beacons off the tac squad pods & give them to the dread & 2nd sternguard squad so the tac squads can drop onto objectives later, I havn't decided yet.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Lose the honour guard and ditch a tactical squad and the dread. Grab some TH/SS Termies instead and a LRR. Roll Green Tide.

Ok, I dropped the honour guard & the dread & put the TH termies in with a LRR & still had some points left so I dropped the assault squad (don't really like them & only had them to make up points) & put in another tac squad. This is what it looks like now;
Chapter master

+ artificer armour
+ hellfire rounds
180
Vulkan He'stan
190
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta

+ death wing
+ locator beacon
240
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta
+ drop pod
+ locator beacon
220
10 tactical marines
+ melta gun
+ combi melta
+ multi melta
+ drop pod
+ death wing
230
10 stern guard
+ 2 melta guns
+ power fist
+ 8 combi meltas
+ drop pod
+ locator beacon
370
10 stern guard
+ 2 melta guns
+ power fist
+ 8 combi meltas

360
5 assault terminators
(thunder hammer & storm shield)
+landraider redeemer

I'd consider making that 10 terminators, and cut the 4th tac squad. You can combat squad them and have the other 5 as bubble wrap. Automatically Appended Next Post: It might also be worth it to get a few extra marines (read also wounds) for the dev squads.

You don't need the Chapter Master in this list. Chapter Masters do not add anything to the army and they need to stay still to use the bombardment. I would switch for a Master of the Forge and take Dreadnoughts as heavy support instead of Thunderfires and Devastators, which do not suit this list.
Drop Pods do not need deathwind lauchers, just keep them cheap.
Sternguard only need combi meltas. You do not want to swap the special ammo (which you pay for) for a meltagun, plus the combi meltas are twin-linked thanks to Vulkan.
Ideally a Vulkan list should be in Drop Pods with as much melta and flamers as possible. Dreadnoughts should be added for support and along with a unit of 10 Hammernators. Any points add Land Speeder with multi melta and heavy flamer. I've played against a list like this and it's deadly!

Getting there. The MOTF probably doesn't need a conversion beamer as probably will be in a Drop Pod, if not in a Drop Pod and sitting back laying the smackdown, then the hammer isn't needed.
Still no need for meltaguns on the Sternguard, you are losing the special ammo. Just take combi meltas. Also ditch the power fist, you want to be shooting not in assault.
You don't want the Land Raider. It sticks out like a sore thumb in this list. It's the only mobile vehicle so to speak and will be blasted to bits first turn. The Hammernators derp strike using locator beacons and combat squad.
You probably don't need Venerables either, another Dreadnought would be loads better instead.

That's better, though I wouldn't take the Ironclad on the basis that it's meltagun is short ranged. At least with a multi melta you can sit 24" away and still cause damage and be out of range. Rest is spot on. Just remember to combat squad your units

I put the ironclad in there cos I had the extra points & figured the higher armour value would come in handy. I always combat squad my marines, it just makes sense.

Melta doesn't care about av13 and that's what's going to happen when that Ironclad drops down in someone's face; it will get melta treatment.
