I'm starting an escalation league tomorrow, and I'm trying to decide between Grey Knights or Nids. I've been in GK since their 3rd edition rules were still around, so they're actually close to my heart, but by the same token, I also kind of always enjoy showing off how good Nids can be when done right. This first game is basically a combat patrol match, no HQ required, and has some stiff limitations on what can be brought, so the lists are legal, even if they don't look it. The following are my two main contenders as far as choices go:

Tyranids "Fist full 'o' Genestealers" - 500 points

12 Genestealers
12 Genestealers
11 Genestealers

Probably boring, but effective. Note that MCs are not allowed until we get to 750 points.

Second up is the Grey Knight list, "From Titan with Cheese".

Vindicare Assassin
5 Strikes, MC Daemonhammer, Psycannon, Razorback with TL HBs and psybolt ammo
5 Strikes, MC Daemonhammer, Psycannon, Razorback with TL HBs and psybolt ammo

So pick for me, there's a poll, and I'll see how well I can do with whatever I'm given.

Well, with a whopping 1 vote, I guess I'm going GK for this league. I mean, I could understand why, but does no one read Army Lists anymore?

Nids! I can imagine a lot of people being unable to deal with over 30 stealer. Plus I think it is a bit more go for the gold/risky. The gk list is solid, but stealers could be hilarious and more fun imo. Sorry for bad typing. In class.

I'd go with the stealers, you can tear apart transports with ease, and you will almost certainly outnumber heavily whoever you are facing.
God help your foes when you get into assault.

Well, it's an escalation league, so whichever army I start with is going to be what I'm committed to playing, but it also gives me an excuse to flesh out my Nids and actually get them painted up.

Sounds like Nids are the likely winners though, which is good. It will give the league some much needed non-Imperial presence.

I play grey knights, but those nids seem like so much fun in that point list!

Well, took the 'stealers. I got paired up against an IG player who had no vehicles. On a 4'x4' table.

The first thing I did was apologize. The second thing I did was outflank one of the squads of genestealers.

It wasn't pretty.

To be fair, I went easier on the guy than I could have. I could have infiltrated or outflanked every squad. As it stood, he actually killed off about half of them.

I just don't understand how anyone plays on 4'x4' tables. The balance seems so maladjusted.

At 500-600 Points you can kite someone around the table as an Eldar player if it isn't a 6x4. In objective based games, and it can be rather unfair. 4x4 allows you to corner people who are fast and actually engage them.
