Just saw the new spiderman movie. Don't believe the critics, it's a winner. The after-credits scene is a cipher, but then again, that's the point, isn't it?

I enjoyed it as well. I would agree with the critics that have said only Spider-Man 2 was better, as Spider-Man movies go.

Spoiler:
Was the post credits scene you are referring to the one with Connor in the jail, or was their another after all the credits? I was unable to stay for the whole thing.

It seems they are setting up Green Goblin, though maybe not the next film, to be more like the Ultimate Green Goblin where he actually turns into a monster that throws fireballs and doesn't ride a glider. I don't mind having a physical transformation, but I needs the glider.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Spoiler:
Not sure. The scene was so brief and dark that is gave away very little. The voice of the mysterious voice in the shadows sounded a bit like Willem Dafoe, which would be strange and make little sense.

I would like for their to be a series of movies where they crossover the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Spider-Man. It could be made as one big mega-movie where one installment is released every few months that is centerede around a single massive emergency situation. (Not the Skree-Krull war, something central to Earth that is not specific to one story line. I know, it's too much to ask, but that's just me.)

So, would you guys say even if you saw all 3 of the previous movies and think there was absolutely no reason to have rebooted this franchise (especially so soon); that its still worth seeing? Was it good even if you're highly dubious of it?

Spidey was great. I also hate 3D movies, and try to go see everything in 2D. Last night's late showing of Spidey was 3D only, and boy am I glad-it's the first movie I've ever seen that I felt DESERVED 3D treatment. It is very well told, and was a great ride through and through. It was better than the Tobey Maguire franchise. Still not 100% sold on the costume, but the movie is a winner.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Still haven't seen it... I am still a little dubious to be honest. The first Maguire outing was a great film, the second not so much and the third..... Lets not go there shall we?

Although when I went to see Abraham Lincoln last week, the trailer for the new spidey film DID catch my eye. I may well catch it. In 3D though please, unlike a lot of my freinds and family, I like 3D films. They still have a ways to go, but I think they add something to the movie going expeariance.

They needed a reboot, the 3rd one was terrible, Venom only had 10 minutes of screentime and it was a massive downer. I'm hoping that they will put Shocker as the main Villain for the second one, even him or Venom.

I admit I was skeptical, but with my brother saying it's good and you guys saying it's good....

I know it's not hard to get better than Tobey, but did the new guy do well?

And spoiler it for other people, but how closely did it follow the comics? With Stacy?

The problem with this, is that the franchise desperately needed a reboot.

And anyway, even without being charged with replacing the above atrocity, was really good. Better than the first one; not quite as good as the second one. I definitely like Andrew Garfield much more than Tobey Maguire (who I thought was miscast right from the beginning. He acted to derpy to be Parker, and wasn't enough of a smartass).

Spoilery spoilers so you have been warned.

Spoiler:
It isn't trying to be a transliteration of the comics, but going it's own route with familiar beats. That is fine by me, I don't want to see the exact same thing done the exact same way every time. Captain Stacy gets killed in this one and the last thing he does is tell Peter to protect Gwen by staying away from her, as he is going to make enemies and the people around him will get hurt. He initially does as requested but at the end he lets us (and Gwen) know he isn't going to follow through on that promise. So I guess in the next film he will learn about the price of hubris and the cost of breaking a promise. The relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May is a bit different but the dynamic is still the same, and I thought oth Martin Sheen and Sally Fields did a good job. You get the impression, quite strongly, that Aunt May knows he is Spider-Man. Another thing I liked was showing Spider-Man/Peter as constantly injured. He is bruised and cut up half the movie.

For a movie that was rushed to keep the license it was a lot of fun.

Hopefully they'll do it right this time and introduce Eddie Brock in the next one, then Do Venom in the third. Ignore the fact spider wore the suit first, movie auidiences aren't going to really get it.

Just make Eddie hate Spiderman, have the symbiote turn up, hence Venom hates Spiderman.

Also in my ideal world, the post credits scene of the third film is Eddie arriving in prison where he is introduced to his cellmate, Cletus Kasady.

Fourth film = epic.

If they do Venom, considering the angle they are taking is closer to the Ultimate story, it won't be an alien.

From the wiki:
Eddie Brock is the childhood friend of Peter Parker, and the symbiote is not extraterrestrial. Instead, it is the second stage of a genetically created "suit" designed by Eddie Brock's and Peter Parker's fathers as a cure for cancer, meant to bond to the user and protect them from internal and external harm. The suit is tailored for a specific DNA, and the person to whom it belongs can control the suit more easily. If, however, someone uses a suit designed for somebody else, they are constantly damaged by the suit which requires nourishment, gained by feeding on organic flesh, to function. If bonded to an incompatible host the Venom suit begins consuming them almost immediately, forcing them to feed to sustain it or die themselves. When taking a host, the goo completely envelops the host, regardless of resistance, temporarily blinding it, before encasing itself in a hard, purple casing, similar to a pupa, as it bonds further with the host. When the host emerges, the project then shifts its appearance and function to assist its host, such as creating eyes for it to see through, or tries to take it over, inducing a homicidal rage and attempting to feed itself if bonded with an incompatible host. When bonded with a host and forcibly removed, the Venom Suit leaves trace amounts of itself in their bloodstream, which attracts other samples of Venom to itself, and can overload Peter's spider-sense.

Ah nice, I was going to suggest some kind of experiement instead of an alien above, but left it out. Haven't read much of Ultimate Marvel, so yeah, could totally see that as a good option for the Venom background.

Aunt May is a fairly strong character in Ultimate Spiderman, not like the derpy version of the classic Spiderman. Aunt May in this is definitely more Ultimate Universe style-she also eventually learns Peter is Spidey.

And I agree, I hope Eddie shows up Ultimate style. I also don't think they're going to kill Gwen Stacey in ANY of the films-they're going to keep her in style of the Spectacular Spiderman show-love interest with Peter, knowing he's Spiderman and surviving the entire ride.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I was thinking along that line as well. While it would be much in line with the comics as far as the constant tragedy of Peter's life, it feels a bit much for them to kill Captain Stacy and then go straight to killing Gwen in the next.

I kept thinking a couple of things as I watched this show:

I could have been watching the Avengers movie for a secind time, and was waiting for someone to start calling Peter Edward.

I just got back from seeing it.

I liked Sally Field as Aunt May, I liked Denis Leary as Cpt Stacey. LOVED Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben.

IMO it just seemed like a better start to a Spiderman movie series than the 2002 one. They didn't kill the Villan (but to be fair, Osborne had to die in the first Spidey flick. It's the rules), It was a funny movie. Had Better Pacing than the previous ones. I also liked the video game based on it because:

Spoiler:
The Video game is a epilogue that focuses on Connor's Redemption in the community, as Alistair Smythe (taking the role of the Big Bad) trying to continue the Cross Species experiments

But this heralds a bright future for Spiderman Movies, after the....fun of Emo Spidey with Breakdancing action, better known as Spiderman 3.

That sequence where he danced down the street was the only part I actually enjoyed about the 3rd one; simply because that movie was stupidly childish and that was the only glimmer of it being self-aware of such.

So It's time to play the Guessing Game: How do you think the next two movies (if they decide to go that far) will go down?
This is what I'm thinking:
Spoiler:

Oscorp is prolly going to be a giant part of the movies. I'd imagine we'll see another Scientist working on something to Help Osborne not die of...whatever he's got, followed by the 3rd movie rocking out Gobbo Style and having Gwen Stacey die.

What could they use for movie 2, you Ask? Someone posted the bit about Ultimate Venom, which would make more sense alongside the post credit scene.

I really do not see them using Doc Ock(even though Ult Doc Ock rocks.), since people complained they did the Origin story again. Imagine the rage if the next movie had Doc Ock. They could break out Smythe and his toys, but most people probably wouldn't know who he is(or only know from the recent video game and complain that they just took the last game and made it into a Movie).

Anyone else got any ideas?

Kingpin?
Black Cat?

Neither of these seem like they would make good primary villains. In the end, Kingpin is just a big mob boss, and from what I remember, Black Cat was more of an anti-hero. Though I may be completely wrong, I haven't kept up on Spider-man recently.

Black Cat could work in the next one just to throw a monkey wrench into the Peter/Gwen relationship, but I don't see her headlining. Mysterio as he was done in Spectacular could be a pretty cool villain. I would love to see The Rhino or Scorpion, but they put them into the Video Game so I doubt they'll use them in the film.

Kraven the Hunter could be interesting, or an updated version of the Enforcers.

I was discussing this at work with some friends (really slow day) They could use a Villain that would normally be a bad choice for a headliner (like Black cat) If they had the movie focus on Spidey's powers going out of Control.

Like this:

So an Anti Hero like black cat or hell, give Connor's a Redemption shot outside of the game. He Deserves it. Have a bunch of Minor spidey Villains in one movie getting roflstomped by Man-spider, followed by Connor's Escaping(with black cat's help) and making a serum to bring it under control without getting rid of the Spider Powers.

That is doubtful, but if they are going to do something like that, I want it either next movie or never. Don't want to have The Amazing Spiderman 4 8 years from now with the Cross Species mix of Peter Parker and Spider finally going out of control.
