Hanging out with family for the holiday, I was watching Band of Brothers and early in the series there was a fire fight involving a German transport, which explodes. My cousin missed that scene and asked what was burning because it kept showing the burning vehicle.

I replied "an Sd Kfz 250/1 i think."

Well he looked at me and said "Man, your such a nerd!"

I really didnt know how to take that when I stopped laughing.

Games are educational. Admit it now!

It's an SdKfz 251. You'd be even more of a nerd if you'd told him that, rather than being a genuine SdKfz 251, it's actually a converted Tatra OT-810 (a Czech copy built after the war).

Why should that be a bad thing? I often make such comments
IMO being a nerd is more than a good thing - if we speak hypotethicaly, and assume we have this thing called "basic nerdism": So you are (at least partly) intellectuel, imaginative and creative. What the bad thing in those? Well, there is also those people who have all the pros, but most of the negs too, fex. dont meet mr. shower too often, but IMO that has nothing to do with that..

But back to topic, must tell this: During my yearly years in college we went to watch Tali-Ihantala 1944-movie with our (history) class - I had terrible arguement with my teacher, as he said that the KV-1 in the movie was KV-1. Well, obviously, it is not. Link to the "KV-1" used in movie Quite poor mockup built on surpluss T-55, thats what I said - during my 3 years in that college that teacher did never forgive me

And it was sooo awesome

Turrets are like breasts. If the turret looks right, then of course it must be a KV-1, when in reality, if you look at the flipping road wheels, its obvious it isn't.

Much like most guys couldn't tell you the color of the shoes under a nice D-cup.

Well, its hard to determine the right color in the shade.

I think the funniest thing was that popped in my head instead of just "German halftrack" heh. Honestly, Im appreciating war movies more since playing FoW. I can recognize vehicles now.

My 6yr old has taken to identifying the squad mates and opposing force in WoT just based on the roster diagrams.

Even caught him telling me that the guy next to me was a PzIV instead of a III cause it had 8 road wheels.

Middle Earth

My dad regularly asks me what different military vehicles are in movies (or what they're supposed to be, I can usually identify what they actually are as well, but not as well)

I have to say, the various shermans, t-34's, pattons and god knows what else used to represent german tanks in various war movies begins to irk me, especially the old movies where no attempt is made to disguise the tank.

We're watching you... scum.

A similar thing happened to me at school. Me & my class (20-25ish 15-year olds) was watching "Saving Private Ryan" during history class, and when they're in the town near the end and gets assaulted by the tanks, I immediately started identifying the tanks as two Marder II/III (Can't remember) & two Tiger HTs and finished my 30 seconds lesson on the tanks, their usage and importance with the words "The Americans are screwed now". Then I realised how nerdy that had sounded and the looks my classmates were giving me confirmed that. Of course the Yankees made it, they always do in American Patriotic films about WW2

Being a "Nerd" is good as MaahisKuningas pointed out.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

My favorite movie gafe was in Hogans Heroes.

It was one with a captured german tank that they used to blow up a bridge. The vehicle was clearly a Priest with a 105mm gun.

Obviously German vehicles, or an actual tank, were impossable to come by at that time.

And then there was one episode, just one, where all the Germans were armed with Tommys.

So it's nerdy to be historically accurate now? Even if you did learn it from a game it can't be more nerdy than memorizing a textbook or watching historical documentaries.
