Hey all,

So nearly five months after finishing my models, I managed to get a game with them. Having joined a local club, I arranged a 150pt game against a Yu Jing list. This was my first proper game of Infinity, so if I’m unclear about what happened then it is likely that I’ve misunderstood something. The table we used is a foamboard construction, which had the significant problem of a total killing zone in the centre.

The Mission
For this we agreed on a fairly simple mission, with four civilians (one in each of the shops). I think that it comes from the rulebook. When you moved into contact, you had to sync with them (WP), and they had a ¼ chance of being the civvie that we needed to ‘escort’ off the board.

The Lists

The list that I used was as follows:
Saladin (lieutenant)
Ahl Fassed with HMG
Djanbazan with sniper rifle
Ghulam with combi-rifle+light flamethrower
Ghulam with combi-rifle+light flamethrower
Naffatun with light flamethrower

Andrew’s list was as follows:
Celestial Guard (lieutenant)
Shang Ji Invincible with combi-rifle+light flamethrower
Domaru Butai with boarding shotgun & E/M grenades
3x Zanshi with combi-rifle
Shao Lin monk with combi-rifle, smoke grenades and shock CCW
2x Kuang Shi with chain rifle

Deployment
I won the roll off, and chose to deploy first. I took this side, largely due to the fact that I was already sitting there.

Andrew, meanwhile took the other side.

For my deployment, I put Saladin and the Naffatun inside the shop on my left flank, with a Ghulam guarding the corridor to their left. I put the Fassed behind a car in the centre, with a Ghulam lurking inside the prongs of a hover car to her right. Finally, I put the Djanbazan sniper on my right, ready to move up and cover the corridor on the right.

Andrew’s deployment consisted of putting the Shang Ji and Celestial Guard behind the kebab shop on his left flank, with the two Kuang Shi next to them prepared to rush down the corridor. He then put two Zanshi prone behind the booth in the centre of his line, while the Domaru, the Shao Lin and the other Zanshi stood to their right next to the mall entrance.

Turn 1
Andrew had the first turn, and began by using his impetuous orders to throw the Kuang Shi down the corridor (but out of LOS of my Djanbazan). The Shao Lin monk, meanwhile, moved forward and then tossed a smoke grenade to cover the corner of the clothes shop, before stopping behind a cabinet.

The Shang Ji moved diagonally across the open corridor, and got into a brief firefight with the HMG-toting Fassed that left him a wound down. His Celestial Guard also moved forward, but moved too far (into LOS) and so also got shot by the Fassed. This should have left Andrew in LoL, but he totally forgot about it.

I began my turn by double-moving the Djanbazan up towards the corner, and then a second order moving him to the corner and then firing a shot at the nearest Kuang Shi.

He shot and killed the chap, who then exploded and killed the guy standing next to him. Comedy gold.

Meanwhile Saladin moved to the civilian next to him and, after a bit of violence, managed to sync with him. This turned out to be the civilian in question, so I was looking good at this point. He later moved to the very corner of that building, nearest to the board’s edge.

I then moved the Naffatun up, in order to provoke some kind of hostility that would cover the exit of the civilian. But, while trying to cross an alleyway, she got shot down by a Zhang Shi in a building opposite. In hindsight, maybe I should have opted to burn a second order to use a concealed movement.

With that plan in tatters, I finally moved up the Ghulam on the left flank, through the access corridor. He decamped to a position behind the counter of the middle building, seeking to cover both the corridor and the street outside from attempts to kill Saladin. (The other models in the photograph are civilians that we didn’t trouble to remove).

Turn 2
Andrew began his turn with another impetuous move order, including another successful smoke grenade throw from the Shao Lin.

The Shang Ji moved up through the smoke, and although he avoided the LOS of the Fassed he got shot and put down by the Ghulam lurking to her right.

Meanwhile the Zhang Shi who had killed my poor Naffatun moved forward, and became the latest victim of the Fassed.

Things then went Andrew’s way again, as his Domaru Butai jumped through the window of the clothing shop, then into the access corridor.

From his position, he moved into the shop, took a shotgun blast to the chin, and then brutalised the Ghulam.

He then finished Andrew’s turn by getting into a firefight with the Fassed, which he won; but she managed to pass her armour roll, to my relief.

However she wasn’t so lucky in the next order, as he run-and-gunned his way out of the shop, putting her down to a single wound.

I began my turn by turning the Djanbazan sniper around, and executing the Domaru from outside of his vision arc.

Saladin then escaped from the board, and ended the game in my favour.

The board at the end:

A great game, with a perfect gentleman for an opponent, which highlighted for me the sheer brutality of Infinity firefights. I'm definitely looking forward to my next games!

Very nice report and pictures, where did you get the proper scale Spinner cars?

Thanks for writing that up, Charles.

You're quite right that the board isn't ideal for Infinity. It was really built for games like MERCS which are more forgiving when it comes to running into the open.

I got them from Antenociti's Workshop. That's also where I got the white car. The red one is from Scotia Grendel.

It looked like a good game from where I was sitting. Incidentally, both Charles and Andrew are real gents at and away from the table. Andy's also a bit of a dab hand with the old foamboard scenery. He built that table himself.
