OK, basically i'm making a codex about a race called the Solaris who are the Guardians of souls. They are the reason that Daemons Haven't destroyed every psyker out there, the cause of the warp storm that saved Tau from extinction, and the reason Grey Knights can kill Daemons with such ease.

Background wise, I'm pretty much sorted, Each Guardian Force protects one Race from 40K and one From Fantasy. They are Spirits in a mixed metaphysical form between the 2 races they protect and are powered on souls. They have never been known to be present until Kairos Fateweaver (Daemon Pidgeon of Tzeentch From Daemon Codex), predicted the Annihilation of Daemons and so Tzeentch cursed the Galaxy, The only way the Solaris could stop them was to give up Their Ethereal invinsibility and become mortal.

Rules wise, I have only created 3 Units (1 HQ and 2 Troops) Each Turn you roll a D3 for the Spirit Charge Level, This Changes Every model in the army depending on how they charge, for example:

Astralite Stormers

WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
2 2 2 2 1 4 1 8 4+

Points: 10 Each
Equipment:
Soul Claw: Close Combat weapon, AP 6-Spirit Charge Level
Spirit Pistol: Range:12" Strength: 2+Spirit Charge Level AP: 6- Spirit Charge Level
Special Rules:

Spirit Charge - Combatant: +1 WS, S & T for each Spirit Charge Level.

The Other Troop Has the same Stat Line (15pts) however has Spirit Charge - Scout: +1 BS, S & T for each SCL
Their Gun is Range:24" Strength 3+SCL AP:5-SCL Assault 1

The HQ choice is awkward as it has 3 different versions so ill put those stats up if anyone wants to see them. It's called Solaris Lord.

Anyway I wanted help thinking of more Ideas for units. I also wanted to come up with A monstrous Creature and Vehicle.

This background is really off-putting from what you just put down. I'm gonna have to ask for more because right now, if I take it at that face value, I'm seeing "we're so awesome that we stop ALL The bad guys!" Mary Sue nonsense.

Mechanics-wise, the random stats are an interesting idea, but what do they do that is different from any other race? On average rolling, they are pretty much Marines...but with more rules and advantages.

@Curran they're more like...

Well, daemons are the swirling vortexes of emotional interaction with the warp; the way I'm reading it, Solars (hopefully not Exalted Solars, as that would just be twinky and I would have to hate you forever) are more akin to the natural slowing and drag; the embodiment of the Warp's viscosity and tendency to settle.

I could make a good case for it, but I feel that that's quack's job.

@curran12 The 'stopping all Bad Guys' happenned before Tzeentch went Psycho on the Galaxy, and now that they've lost their metaphysical form they are open to spots of vulnerability, represented in the fact that they are sometimes T3 and sometimes T5, I tried to even out the stats a bit by giving them awful basic stats, and not a very good save (originally 5+ but i thought thats was too harsh) I might raise the points a bit now that i think about it they probably are a little underpriced. anyway back to background, they have very few defeats as they were invinsible up until very recently when they become vulnerable, and even now few people know of them, so direct conflict is rare. They're different to other races because they aren't just 'I win at what im good at' as they might roll a 1/2 and be killed whilst Toughness 3, or might Overkill at S5. Also they don't Look like marines (Unless you do a marine guardian force) so actually add some variation to the table! They came from Orikans idea of being Empowered, and Orky randomness.

@Chrisrawr Don't worry About exalted solars, their solaris and about being like Daemons, They are sort of what eldar are to dark eldar, as Solaris are to Daemons.

The background is a real issue. When introducing a new race into a existing universe you probably want to avoid hijacking the existing background for your own ends. You’ll end up creating a situation were the entire universe revolves around your race which is off pointing to those who generally don’t want said universe rewritten to accommodate a new entry.

For the background, I would suggest having your species be able to exist in and out off the warp as a amalgam of living creature and warp being - like the enslavers, but relatively benign to the mortal races. Have them be antagonistic to the daemons out of instinct, this makes them automatically the good guys. Maybe as warp based creatures have them drop in through daemonic reality tears and interfere with daemonic invasions kinda like how Draigo shows up to stop warp invasions. Dropped the stuff that involves them being directly involved with major issues in the 40K universe and being overly good saviors for all the races in 40K.

Read through this link to get a general notion of what to avoid when writing their background material:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Mary_Sue

Things to avoid:

Outshining the abilities or achievements of the canon races.

Becoming a major player in 40K thus reducing other parties to side notes.

Creating situations were the 40K universe is revolving around your race - Like: having them being able to stop a major disaster that other races would not be able to do on their own, or achieve a major goal that the other races would not be able to accomplish on their own.

Having other races’ actions, background, general fluff be altered by your entry in a manner that intrudes upon their own story. Example: having the xenophobic, warp-fearing imperium break bread with your race instead of attempting to exterminate them for being aliens/daemons.

Imperium doesn't 'break bread' with them, they didn't have a choice when they were metaphysical, they didn't even know they were there, it's similar to ghosts, also the stuff about stopping psykers being killed and stuff isn't interffering with other races, it's explaining why perils of the warp is rare. Also all this happened when they actually were invinsible. I like the idea of the imperium believing them to be daemons, I might make it so that after they became mortal, Imperial forces of the Red Guerilla Squadron destroyed an entire Guardian Force, Unfortunately this was their own guardian force, and so Red Guerilla Psykers were being warped and mutated so that their planet was ordered into exterminatus, which means that the imperium believe them to have laid a curse on the imperial planet, rather than knowing that by killing Solaris you endanger the Sub-Race they were guarding. Anyway I needed more help on Units rather than fluff but still thanks for the daemon idea.

Quack, generally you're not going to get any help with anything until your fluff is not ridiculous, even by 40K standards.

That being said, you haven't given us, really, anything to work with. We're not going to make or balance your codex for you. YOU have to make the codex; we'll help with suggestions on how things could be done better, how fluff could be represented, and occasionally by pointing out some glaring flaws.

Again; solidify your fluff and bring crunch content if you want something from us. You've brought a very weak, very slim, cow to the table; give us meat.
