I am trying to get a local community started in my area but I seem to be having a problem getting people intrested. I was hoping a monthy tournament and Demo day would start to draw in a crowd but it doesn't seem to be working. Any Ideas?

Do you have 2-4 Starter Box Armies Painted to a good standard to showcase the armies and offer demo games ?
Possibly a painting Competetion where people buy/paint a warcaster.

my boyfriend is pressgang. Between the both of us we own every battlebox, warpack, alternate boxes and journeyman league starter lists, and have a couple duplicates. I have been trying to just run a demo day and raffle off a starter set (yes for free) but i just cant get people to show up. I am also applying for pressgang. He supports some stores farther away and I want to do the ones closer to my house. Am i not promoting it enouph mabye?

Sometimes games take awhile to catch on, are you the only 2 players that play ?
Just have a Warmachine night that you get together and play.
Sometimes it just takes time and people seeing the game played off to the side while they are playing another game.

Well, first of all, how are you promoting the game? I've tried to persuade my friend into playing warmahordes by showing him my minis and the rulebook artwork and saying: "Hey, you should try out this cool game it's awesome and is a lot of fun." Although he is now an avid LoE player, it took a few months before he actually picked up a starter box and everything. Finding how you can persuade people to get into warmahordes should take lots of planning and ideas.

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel. |

I'll tell you my story of conversion to WM/H.
I was a 40k player and was really happy with that game. I saw people playing WM and took note but really didn't care. When I started becoming dissatisfied with GW the store owner took note and had one of the regular players offer me a demo game. He pointed out the difference in the systems and helped me threw a game. Next thing you know I have 50 points of Khador and am loving it.
TL R version, Get with the local FLGS owners and have them help you cull the herd, but by bit you will amass a good size gaming group.

Publicity and persistence is key.
To get the publicity, it's not always just shoving it in other's faces (not saying that's what you're doing). Just playing games in your FLGS and being friendly to any that choose to look over your minis and/or watch a game. Answer any questions they may have. When describing the game, don't lie, but try not to make the game seem overly complicated (especially in the more rural areas, like where I live). While playing, have a table off to the side to display some painted minis (maybe a full army's worth). In just 1 day of gaming, our FLGS where we held our last Game Day had numerous inquiries about the games we were playing (Warmachine/Hordes and 40K) from board gamers, card gamers, and families just popping in to look around.
Persistence is what will really pay off in the long run. Where I game was mostly MTG and board games. A few of our local mini gamers started playing at the store (welcomed with open arms by the store), and now that the store has been open for over a month, they're always posting on their FB page that there's a mini game going on. Also, the group that I play with is mostly 40K (which is what I played exclusively until about a week or so ago). One of our members got the Warmachine 2 Player Box and absolutely loved the game and started raving about it. Over a period of about 2-3 months, more of our group started getting into Warmachine/Hordes. Slowly, more and more of our group started playing it. Now, most of our group play both 40K and Warmachine/Hordes.
Creating an interest won't happen over night. It can take months to do. Keep at it and be patient. Some people that you see your first time out may not be able to get into a game of this magnitude right away. That person that doesn't start right away, might pick up a starter box a couple of months later.
Cyberman is right, you should plan on how you are promoting it. If you're doing so in a public environment such as an FLGS, you can generally be a bit more technical with it and approach it from a gaming angle. If you're doing so to an individual, play on the aspects of the game that fit with their interests. For example, when my friend got me into wargaming with 40K, he approached it using the models to strike my interest up (since he found out I was a model railroader and general model geek), following up with the gaming aspect.

Keep trying; I honestly recommend running demos on the days mini games are normally played. GW's making more enemies than friends with price hikes and shoddy rules.... like me, more people will move when they realize how much cheaper and how much better WM/H rules are. Honestly, offer games to your buddies that play other games, the more people who play, the more people who get interested!
