Hey folks.

I'm about to jump back into tabletop gaming with some friends and I always prefer the forces that will be fun to play, look cool on the table, and offer me the ability to mod and create. Also it helps if they're a bit off the wall.

I'm interested in building an Imperial Guard/Space Wolf army. "Feral Guard" I'm calling them.
While i don't particularly look forward to the prospect of a sea of nameless grunt figures, I am really drawn to the Primaris Psyker and the ability to have a Battle Group of Psykers. Also...I need the Forgeworld Hades Drill in my life.
Space wolves appeal to me overall.

Things I'd love in my army:

Primaris Psyker
Psyker Squad (and i assume a Chimera for them to ride in)
Hades Drill with a group of Hardened Shotgun Vets to accompany it
And any Space wolves necessary to round it out...Divination would be nice too, so Njal I guess?

This brings me to my questions... (having a very very basic understanding of the rules in general and simply being told you can now have allied detachments in 6th edition)

- Is it possible for me to build say a 1000 point list in this manner? (is there a level req for allies etc?)
- Can you take an HQ from each? or is it a major and minor type thing
- Do the powers/abilities from one, affect the other? (Nightshroud on SW for example)

Thanks in advance for any insight.
Cheers.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

1) There is no required level for allies, but you will find it almost impossable to fit what you want in 1000 points. It would be a very bad list from any sort of competitive stand point, no upgrades etc. Which means you would be screwed against anyone who was able to take some upgrades. Also, 40k in general is not a balanced game until you hit 1500, and 1850-2000 is the sweet spot. You really should shoot for something in that range.

2) Yes, both allies and the main army require one HQ. The FoC requirements are quite clearly layed out in the main rule book.

3) Since IG and SWs are Battlebrothers any abilities that target friendly models will effect each other. Abilities that only work on friendly models from X codex won't. ICs can join allied units if they are Battlebrothers too.

Hail fellow Guardsman!

Okay to answer your question, 1000 points can work but it will be HARD. The IG rely on numbers and might, so 1000 points is gonna limit you especially if you want SW allies. I would go 1,500 min. That gives you 1000 of Guard, and 500 of SW if you want (there is no point limit on allies, just the FOC limits). I find though, you will want to shoot for 1,850. That's a sweet spot.

And yes, abilities do effect them as IG and SW are Battle Brothers. I like your ideas though, would be interested to see what comes out of it!

Wait, I see you want a Hades drill....so you are playing DKoK? That's gonna be even harder, but I don't really know much about the DKoK points.....

Hmm so its all doable, i just need to up the points then. Great

Washout77 - you can use the Hades with normal Guard and replace the DKoK Engineers that go in it with Hardened vets according to IA i think....

You'll have a hard time maintaining a good list, and trying to squeeze in good units at any point level below 1750, really. At least with these two.

Seems you'll be better off Using SW as your main force, and then just allying in the Psykers and hades drill.

Much easier to build around, because using guard as your core would be fine, but it is handicapped by taking the psyker stuff. Taking guard as an ally, it's not that big of a deal, just some psykers to play around with, tacked onto a large SW force that will stomp face.
