I'm picking up some Skorne for my girlfriend for Christmas. Now now, it's not as likely to fail as it sounds. She enjoyed playing Warmachine (so will probably like learning Hordes too, she's very quick) and is very keen to learn how to paint and what not. She also likes quite a few of the models.

Anyway, I'm aiming to buy a 15 pt list under the command of Dominar Rasheth, and it needs to include a Titan Cannoneer (she thinks the model is cute). Apart from that, who would work with him in such a low point list?

However, would Lord Assassin Morghoul be an easier leader to learn with at this low points level? Whichever one of these is the 'simplest' would be best. In terms of their tactics.

Like for Cygnar you have casters like Siege and Sloane (IMO) who are relatively straightforwards. Then you have those like eHaley (again, this is only IMO) who needs a bit more finesse because she relies on all her spells and what not rather than bang bang.

On another note, is the P3 Skorne paintset worth getting? Or would it be better to buy the individual colours that I want?

Thanks in advance for your help dakka

The color sets a good buy.

15 points... Don't do dominar, hell get his ass kicked in hard. He relies on his sweet spell list and screening models to stay alive; which you won't have at this level.

Honestly id recommend eHexeris if she's going with a cannonneer, eMakedas good too, eMorghouls pretty straight forward but he doesn't "help" his army. I'd reccommend eHexeris the most though, do a cannonneer, raider, and maybe a min venator unit or something (with ua if it'll fit). Don't have my dex or id give better feedback!

That is great help as it is, sounds like dominar would be a more difficult one to learn, which is what I want to steer clear of for this initial buy.

I'm going to pick up the deck from my FLGS when I get back home in a few days anyway, so I'll be able to sort out exact points and come back with a possibly list that I'd buy after that. I'm not looking to make her a super beat-around-the-head list, more one that is beginner friendly, yet doesn't bend over and take it because of its simplicity.

Thanks for your help Zid, I'm planning on making the buy next week when I get paid, give the webstore plenty of time to deliver to Aus.

Depending on if you want more advice or not, I'd suggest the following as a 15 point list:

Tyrant Xerxis
Titan Cannoneer
Basilisk Drake
Cyclops (Shaman, Brute, or Savage, depending on personal taste)
Min unit of Paingiver Beast Handlers

Xerxis is a very strong caster, with great defensive and offensive buffs, so will be fairly forgiving to learn. He can also turn -anything- into a melee monster, so taking ranged warbeasts with him can make for a very interest force to play with. The paingivers make Fury management really simple (forgiving) too.

Cheers for the aid Goremaul.

I'll probably get her the cyclops shaman, he's the one she likes the look of best.

And that's good to know that he is a fairly forgiving caster, and that the paingivers help in that regard too.

No worries.

As a bonus, the Shaman and especially the paingivers will find a way into a lot of lists later on as well. The shaman had a decent ranged attack (laser eyeball!) as well as the ability to use the animi of other friendly warbeasts. Paingivers are practically a must for any skorne army (+2 STR and free charges to beasts, healing, or Fury management, as needed). One thing I can forsee with this starter force is a slight lack of accuracy (Mat/Rat 5 on the beasts), but that is overcome by the ability to boost freely.

One thing to keep in mind with Xerxis (if you do go with him) is that his "Battle Plan" abilities can be used on himself, so he can give himself +2 SPD (as long as he doesn't run/charge) or Pathfinder for a turn.
