Just as the tital says how do you use them? I have heard a lot of mixed things about them the biggest bein the cost to much for to little. But if some one were to take them whats thebest way to use them? Should they be treated like sternguards? Given meltas and just let them kill a tank real fast? I feel like their slow and perposeful rule could be really powerful in any situation.

To many unpainted models to count.

I bought the/painted them and sold them.

SnP is pretty bad, they cant overwatch, run. They can always move their full move IIRC.

SO they DS and may kill something. Might as well take a drop pod with some sternguard. Might be a little more expensive but prolly about the same price/safer/more reliable

They are sorta in the uncanny valley of units in the codex. They have uses, but it's limited.

Now you can easily use them as pseudo sternguard and TH/SS termies. Simply give them a melta gun and the sarge would benefit from a power fist. That's 200 points for a unit that has the same invul as TH/SS termies, only 1 fist though, but packs a melta gun. If you really want to, add a multi melta, but that's pricey.

They are best used dropping in, shooting something, and then moving around where they need to be. The rest of your list should include horde control and anti light tank at least, with some TEQ killing power somewhere. Your LotD can blow open tanks and mop up, and they are hard to get rid of when there's not a lot of wounds coming their way.

They would benefit greatly from a list with vulkan in it.

sad days, im hopping in the next codex they become a tad bit more useful, they are such a cool model but no one uses them.

I dont run them in my army simply because they don't do much. the army I run, well still making it, is as follows i don't have the point cost memorized nor do i have the sheet sitting in front of me but ends up being just under 2k i think like 1998

HQ: term chaplain

elite
Dread w/ assault cannon and ML
TH/SS terms in a LR

troops
2x tac squad 10 w/ ML,Flamer, sergeant has BP and chain sword
2 rhinos
scouts w/ telion, 3 snipers, and a ML

fast attack
2x stromtallons w/ assault cannons and Skyhammer missiles

heavy support
3x pred with auto cannons and side laz

chaplain goes with terms in the LR.

Looks like a good list. Consider taking the scouts out and making the rhinos las razorbacks, plus making the storm talons lascannons instead of missiles. Also your dread seems to be having trouble, you tend to not shoot the same targets with assault cannons that you shoot with missile launchers, consider changing.

Make sure your land raider has extra armor!

Off the top of my head, your points for that list is 1950 points.

good point with the dread i'll change it to a close combat weapon with a heavy flamer, that would let me give the LR extra armor.

If i give the rhinos laz and turn them into razorbacks i lose them as transports for all 10 tac marine should i just use combat squads and break them up into 4 squads of 5?

My thought with the scouts was to use them to pick off elites.

the only reason i put the skyhammer missiles on the stormtallons was because iirc they can be used as flakk so anti air haha

1. You should generally always combat squad your tacticals unless you are playing a KP game. The doubling the number of scoring units and effectively allowing you to split fire is amazing, so the only cost of a razorback over a rhino is the points difference.

2. Scouts are best as a back-field objective holder, and do that job particularly well with Camo Cloaks and from behind an Aegis. The standard combo seems to be Camo-Scouts + Telion behind an Aegis manning a quad gun to provide anti-air. Otherwise they aren't really worth it, as precision shots are too unreliable to build around.

3. Any flyer that is zooming (including the Stormtalon) may choose to fire either with or without skyfire, so Skyhammer Missiles are no better at hitting their targets than lascannons. There is an argument for taking the Skyhammer, since it is essentially a heavy 3 Autocannon, but generally either the twin-linked lascannon or the Typhoon missiles are a better choice (the lascannon penetrates AV12 on a 4+, and the Typhoon does so on a 5+ while still allowing you to take on infantry with frag missiles).

You're taking the missile launcher on your tacticals, odds are you're combat squadding already, so having your 5 man with the flamer in the razorback isn't much of a change.

A small unit of scouts isn't going to do much.
