Went down the the FLGS, and there was a new player there. Well, apparently an old player but one I hadn't seen before. I went and offered a game and he accepted. CASTER KILL as always.

Skorne 25pts-

Makeda
Molik Karn
Gladiator
Savage
Min Swords
Min Beast Handlers

First time playing Molik Karn and I was a bit skeptical. I knew what he could do on paper, but I just didn't know how effectively I'd be able to pull of his shenanigans. I was severely outnumber at this points level by taking him.

Menoth 25pts-

I dont play em, so I dont remember any names.

Prime Feora
A light jack with a ROF 3 gun called a Skyfall something
Heavy jack that had a flail and a gun with an AOE that set things on fire
Max unit of these little swordsmen
Some solo called a Senechal?
Menoth Choir
Some solo that allowed him to make an additional ranged attack
Max Daughters of the Flame

So I looked across the field and i'm outnumbered in models by at least two to one. Scary!

He wins the roll off and elects I deploy first. I deploy in a modified brick, with things spread out as to minimize blast damage. Swordsmen create a screen in front, and then from left to right Gladis, Makeda, Molik, and the savage all line up behind them. The beast masters form a line behind that one. He deploys more spread out. His daughters are on my far right, his swordsmen and senechal on my far left all moving around a house in the middle (we played it as impassable). He then deploys Feora centrally with the choir and the two jacks and the solo in front.

Skorne Turn 1-
I'm not used to having so many useful spells to cast as I had just come off of playing pMorghul, so this was fun for me! Defender's Ward cast on Swordsmen, Savagery cast on Karn which would be kept for the remainder of the game. She then shed a fury and moved up through a little hole I'd made, so she could activate before them but still move up. Swordsmen ran. Everything else ran up behind them roughly in the same formation.

Menoth Turn 1-
The tide moves. Swords and Senschal run forward for position. Daughters of the flame actually move back slightly to ensure a charge. Center blob of choir, feora and the jacks all move up to get los and position. Fire rains from above as he targets my Swords. The boost to defense saves most of em from gnarly direct hits, but two still die. He then passes turn over to me.

Skorne Turn 2-
I choose to ignore the blob of death coming at me from my left, as they represent a really low priority. Swords run forward again, practically begging to be charged. Cyclops moves up to offer some light beast support to them, and munch on some daughters. Molik and glad both move up, and make sure to block any acrobatic charge lanes, Makeda runs behind the house to make sure she'll have control range to most of his army next turn. Fury is managed, defenders ward is dropped, but savagery upkept. Oh yeah, I pop my feat.

Menoth 2 -
The Seneshal runs and engages Makeda in melee. (Reach, weapon master! AH!) The rest of the swords follow suit, ready to munch the caster next turn. Daughter run and all attack the cyclops. He needs 7s to hit, and rolls 7 ten times in a row. I tell him he should look into playing craps instead of miniatures games. The cyclops tanks most of the hits, but various points of damage are assigned to aspects, none are crippled. The fire rains down again, big and little jack both shoot me, and one shoots me again with the help of the solo. All the swords die, save the officer who is set on fire. And the beast handlers lose all but one, who isn't set on fire. Molik takes some damage, so much so that it manages to damage one of his aspects. Yikes. Feora moves up next to the house, directly across from me and flames makeda, doing 4 points which I don't transfer. In this precarious position, he hands the turn to me.

Skorne 3-
We had a discussion about whether fire damage happens first or Makeda's feat did. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, so the sword died, and none came back. The beast handlers did though! Yay! So, its do or die. Gladiator moves out of the way of Molik and casts rush on him. Beasthandlers medicate him, bringing his damaged aspect back up. Makeda takes a nasty boosted hit from the Seneshal as she moves away (would've brought me to one point, which I transfer to Gladis). She then uses her last three focus to cast Carnage, getting Feora in the control range.

So he fortunately left me a little L shaped lane of movement, where Molik would not take any free strikes. I can't really judge the distance, so I simply hope that a 13" move and a 2" reach will get him. He keeps telling me I can't charge, and I keep telling him I am just gonna walk there. He asks me my speed. I say 6. I remind him that savagery is still up (marked karn with it, +5 to full advance), and that he has +2 movement from the Glad. Karn walks up in his little L pattern right in front of Feora with 3"s to spare. Karn dices her in 2 initials and 1 bought attack.

Result: Victory for Skorne by assassination!

Thoughts: So I was getting my ass kicked for two rounds, and because my opponent didn't think about what 13" of non-linear movement means, I managed to clinch the game with a molik heat seeking missile. It was honestly quite satisfying to do. Be on the verge of losing and putting all your resources into one final, butt tearing effort to pull out a victory. I was a bit worried that Karn might go down before he got his shot at glory, but thanks to support from the beast handlers I got to see what he can really do. You can't leave that guy alone for one second. If you leave any possibility that he can get to your caster, then its trouble. Especially with 5 fury, considering I only used one to finish off Feora. It was a fun game, and my opponent and I had a good laugh about it. I'm sure this is nothing new to veteran Skorne players, but after losing several times to Legion trickery, it was nice to pull out a little ace of my own.

Oh, and I like Makeda a bit more than Morghul. Simply because she is doing something every turn of the game. And buffs are awesome.

Hope you all enjoyed it.

Say hello to the karn bullet.

Its an instawin against someone new against it, but after the first time, it rarely works. Remember, karn has sidestep as well, which can get you 4" more. Also, I believe you can choose to do the fire or feat first as its your maintenance phase; so you could have rezzed the swords first then took the fire.

Good rep tho! PMaks the shizzle

That's what I figured. After that first win I think my best bet is to leave a hole for him so I can keep yo-yoing him forward and taking big weapon master chunks out of things.

I'm actually considering taking Molik out of my list. He's a bit like easy mode, and I don't want to be relying on him for my plans to work.

Amen. I ran Molik through my early games (with Mordikaar ) and won all of them, mostly because of Mr. Karn. I still do ok with eMakeda and her pet bronzeback, but I no longer feel like I'm using as big of a crutch Honestly I wish we had a non-character cyclops heavy, something like Molik but a little cheaper and without so much

As a meta evolves, Molik will fall by the wayside. He dies first or is tied up in most games I've seen recently.

Still a fantastic model, but he does have his faults.

Well done batrep.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

I've heard he's good. But I want to stay away from named characters for awhile as I learn the game in greater depth. I've actually hit a bit of a stall, as I only have 25 points and the majority of tournaments at the store are 35. I don't plan on spending money on it any time soon, simply because I'm saving up for something I want in my other hobbies. C'est la vie!

You don't get back unit models which die of continous effects!

The feat says "For one round...". So you start the feat in your turn, first half of a round. It starts exactly when you say so in pMakeda's activation. Then the feat stays active in your opponents turn which is the second turn of the active round. When it's your turn, the feat has ended and you bring back models lost in the previous round or previous 2 turns if you like.

Fire happens before and after her feat has any effect on your units.
